Santiago to London to Winnipeg (September 27-28)
Today was a journey. We got up early to stop at a local market at 7 am to buy some cheese. Unfortunately, even though the market opened at 7 am, the kiosk where cheese was sold was not opened yet. Lucky for us the owner appeared as we were ready to leave. We got our cheese and an the owner took a photo as the earliest customers they had in awhile.
Once at the airport, luggage drop off and security was a breeze. It is a brand new airport, very spacious and modern. We were moments away from boarding the plane when the line stopped. Nothing happened for awhile but after 40 minutes they started to de board the plane. Somebody said that today was one of the strike days for Ryanair pilots in Spain. Google confirmed that 27th was in fact a strike day. We started looking into possibility of rebooking with another airline. Finally, Ryanair announced that there was a technical issue with the plane. The new plane would arrive in 4 hours so our flight is not canceled but it is 5 hours delayed. In about an hour we got our free food vouchers. It was a whole €5 per person, enough to buy a bowl of soup or a yogurt (or 3 glasses of wine if 2 vouchers are combined). Lucky for us, our credit cards had flight delay insurance and it would cover meals and a hotel if needed. Unfortunately it only started after the 4th hour of the delay. Since we were delayed 5 hours, we were in luck. I had the largest tray of airport food :). It was not bad, I even managed to get more pulpo, freshly squeezed orange juice and melon. Doug was too full after his soup so he didn’t get anything.
We finally left Santiago by 4 pm and arrived to London by 5 pm. After taking express train to Liverpool station, we walked 8.5 kms to our hotel. My room was on the fourth floor and Doug’s room was on the first. It was not too bad, being close to Paddington station, the hotel shook slightly if a train went by. Our plans to visit British museum or Victoria and Albert museum got cancelled since it was 8 pm already. We had a quick meal of shawarma and walked to the Paddington station.
In the morning, we went downstairs for breakfast included with our stay. It was great: eggs, sausage, ham, beans, tomatoes, coffee and toast, first “real” breakfast of the trip.
We walked from our hotel to Victoria Station, visiting Hyde park and Buckingham palace.
We are now on the plane and should arrive to Winnipeg later today

Madrid to Santiago (September 26)
An easy travel day today. We took an early train from downtown Madrid to our train station and board our train on time (no running was needed). It was nice to take a train in the daylight and see the country side. We were moving about 95 km/h on average but at the end the train speed reached 220 km/h.
As soon as we arrived (2:30 pm), we went to the Compostela office. They did not have any numbers left for the day so we were not able to get our Compostela. This means we will have to comeback to Santiago at some point to get the Compostela (maybe another Camino?)
The rest of the day we wondered around Santiago, enjoying the views and the food. Doug had the largest burger of his life at La Tita. Sadly he was only able to finish half of it.
I enjoyed the final pulpo, chipirones and melon of this Camino. We stumbled upon an orchestra concert on the steps of the cathedral. It was a great experience.
Tomorrow is our flight to London.
