psa about blocking people

feel free to reblog.

people have to seriously stop assuming that once they find out someone has them blocked (and i don't mean soft-blocked but hard-blocked), that that person hates them or that they did something wrong.

i can not stress enough how often it has happened to me by now, that i did come to talk to someone who had one of my other blogs blocked at some point in time, only to be told upon curiously asking if i did something wrong that "it was just because tumblr would constantly recommend the same blogs to me and i wanted some variety, so the only option really is to block." or "nah fam, it wasn't anything personal, i am just not interested in the show / chara / movie." or even "the character just makes me uncomfortable."

none of these reasons is about YOU!

90% of the time people are not mad at YOU!

from what i can tell, the majority of people block because:

they want to get a better variety of blogs recommended to them

they have blogs they are not interested in in their tumblr recs

they don't want blogs they are not interested in to follow them

they don't know the character / fandom and only have a limited amount of mental energy to learn about new characters / shows and will most likely not follow characters / shows they don't know.

they block for self protection with no ill intent (it is rarely because they hate the writer but it might be because the character you rp or the fandom they are from triggers them in some way)

life is catching up to them and they are overwhelmed

it is an EXCEPTION that you are blocked because someone hates you or because someone is uncomfortable with you. i, for one, block SOLELY based on disinterest. i don't hard block anyone because i dislike the person behind the blog. in fact, i don't even know these people well enough to be able to judge them. i just judge what i see their blog is about, which is the character or the fandom and if find that i am not interested, why should i let tumblr keep recommending it to me?

see, it is 2023 and i REALLY want people to be more at ease and relax and be less anxious online. there is no reason to be in a constant state of mental agony online. most people won't remember you. most people don't care about you. we all have our own lives and worries and if you find yourself blocked just think of the points i've mentioned above.

let's just start to have more fun alright. let's not treat each other like criminals for something as trivial as a hard block.

Beta Editor / Trim Reblogs Masterpost

IMPORTANT UPDATE ON SENDING ANONS

@changes made a post yesterday (3/17/2023) talking about some updates. but there is one in particular that is very important and i will share a screenshot down below.

it might not look like a big deal but it really is because this will help prevent cyber bullying and actually allow people to be able to sit back, relax, and have fun on here. there's also a great chance that this will help them (the staff) work on bettering and improving on their spam filters and safety precautions.

not only that but i can 100% confirm that the update is legit for i even tried it on my angeal blog over on @ofsgiathan. here's a screencap for proof down below.

What is going on with cutting posts?

You may have seen some posts floating around lately about the beta editor and trimming reblogs, and possibly found yourself extremely confused trying to figure out what this tangled web of editors, extensions, and add-ons even means. I’ve been on this site for years, and I still find the whole thing terribly confusing.

So this post is my effort to explain everything – legacy vs beta, New XKit vs XKit Rewritten, editable reblogs vs trim reblogs – everything. This also doubles as a tutorial for the various methods of cutting posts.

TL;DR

Tumblr is in the process of switching to a new post editor that some old users have opted into, while new users have been forced into it.

The old Editable Reblogs extension does not work with this new editor, requiring people to use a new extension called Trim Reblogs.

Trim Reblogs and Editable Reblogs are not compatible. If your partner uses Editable Reblogs, you cannot cut their posts properly using Trim Reblogs (unless you’re willing to do some tedious and frankly unreasonable workarounds).

The only way for everyone in the RPC to cut their posts properly and efficiently is if everyone moves to the new system and uses Trim Reblogs. Clinging to the old system with Editable Reblogs is actively creating issues for the people using the new system – some of whom do not have a choice.
