My beloved came downstairs and said, “Let’s go on a walksie.”

So we took our fear and anxiety for a nighttime walk.

We looked at the trees turning colors, we watched our breath form plumes in the cold air.

We listened to the crunch of leaves underfoot. We attempted to match each others gaits.

Some of the fear loosened.

If you’re doomscrolling right now, consider going for a walk instead. It won’t fix everything. But you might feel a little better.

One time I was ringing up this sweet older gentleman at the sex shop. I no longer remember what he was buying, just that he was in his fifties and radiated a bumbling gentleness that I had enjoyed.

He was chatting with me as he pulled out cash to pay, “You know, I always thought it would be so much easier to meet ladies. But then you meet a girl and you start chatting and they’re never as impressed that I know Captain Kirk’s middle name as I expected them to be.”

I took his payment with a grin and said, “I dunno, Tiberius is an amazing middle name, it was their loss.”

He looked at me with utter awe, radiating a disbelieving joy that I’d parried his quip so effortlessly with Trekkie lore. “If I were thirty years younger…” he’d said, absolutely delighted.

I didn’t have the heart to tell him I was gay to boot, so I just beamed and wished him a good day. He went out the door with a spring in his step and I still smile to think about it.

Finding Your Identity as a Witch - Tips For Building Your Foundation

Tip 1: "Witch Type" labels are fun, but limiting

Labels help us categorize things, but we as witches do not need to categorize ourselves by our tools or aesthetics, else we might accidentally trap ourselves in a very limited practice without meaning to. I think it is the natural progression to grow out of this as one grows as a witch, but I think it's also good to say upfront to the beginner that if no label fits, it's OKAY. Most "witch type" labels fall away eventually anyway.

Tip 2: Let the things that interest you guide you

Inspiration and direction comes from many places. Make a list of your interests, no matter how diverse or seemingly disconnected with witchcraft. Keeping a list of your interests is great to help you identify your craft. You can add to the list at any time. If you ever feel stuck or directionless in your craft, look back to your list - it's what makes you...YOU!

Tip 3: The building blocks of your craft are your skills + knowledge

Identify some natural skills you have and start there for your craft. That doesn't just mean psychic skills or natural aptitude in magic. This can be knitting, drawing, sewing, cooking, singing, dancing, writing, etc. Apply what knowledge you gain through studying the craft to the skills you already have, and then branch out from there. Add new skills to the old as you learn, just like building a house.

Tip 4: Religion can (but does not have to) be a part of your craft's identity

Religion can inform quite a bit of what you want your craft to be. Or it can be totally devoid of religion, if that's what you want.

Tip 5: Study Different Systems of Magic

Magic works different ways depending on what system you subscribe to. Witchcraft tends to base much of its systems on sympathetic magic, but you can also incorporate elements of planetary, folk, ceremonial, or other systems. Or find that you'd rather be a ceremonial magician than a witch. Be well-versed in the systems of magic out there so you can fine-tune your personal one.

I literally just learned about this three days ago, and I have voted in at least three elections. It took over 30 days to declare Bush Jr the winner of the election when he became president.

We are watching with bated breath.

Don't let the early results on Election Night fool you. Delayed absentee ballot counts in key swing states could tilt how the presidential race ultimately shakes out.

Why it matters: President Trump seized on phenomena known as the "red mirage" and "blue shift" to push baseless claims in 2020 that the election had been stolen. Experts say there's potential for a similar shift this year, too.

As in 2020, several battleground states — including Arizona, Pennsylvania and Wisconsin — have warned that counting all the absentee and mail-in ballots could extend beyond Nov. 5.

The Snuggly Stage has begun! I've had two of them and babby is figuring out that different types of touch/stroking feel good!

My coworkers' baby will often grab your hand if you offer it to her, so obviously I am required to offer her my hand whenever I see her.

Only the last time I did that she didn't take my hand, and instead head bonked it like a cat looking for affection. I am a big fan of whatever developmental stage this signals.

I woke up with this idea for a cosmology that I might could write about:

God is a plagiarist

A little like the gnostic idea of there being a hidden God and a malevolent God , but it's the the hidden God that made everything, and the malevolent God is the one that's been hanging around humanity the last dozen millenia.

Hidden God made the universe, created the stars and the darkness, the land and the sea, the plants, animals, and humans. The celestial spheres where set in motion by them, and then they went away. To create more elsewhere? Maybe, probably. But they're not around anymore. They left our plant and species to fend for ourselves, knowing we'd manage with the gifts* they gave us.

And then another God showed up to the unsupervised earth and started yelling at prophets, telling them He made the universe and everybody needs to worship him. He's the one who came up with the garden of eden story, who wrote the 10 commandments, who eventually sent Jesus to bring salvation to humanity.

But he lied. He didn't make us. He may be a God with all the powers that implies, but he just showed up to a bunch of hairless apes who were wondering where they came from and yelled "oh I did it. I'm your daddy, I made you all!"

I dunno what to do with this story idea. I'm not sure where it could go at the moment. I'll have to let it stew a while.
