Finished The Sunbearer Trials last month and no regrets. This book had Queerness, a Trans MMC and gods. To say its like a God version of The Hunger Games would be an incredible insult to this book (and don’t get me wrong I love the Hunger Games) but this was magical, coming out and finding authenticity while also tackling racism and classism. I can not wait to read Celestial Monsters and Cemetery Boys by Aiden Thomas this month

A phenomenal YA Fantasy. There was magic, family, mystery and themes of racism and government corruption intertwined. I was on the edge if my seat throughout the book

This was a fantastic read. Set in 1880s with our FMC being a 19 year old Argentinian girl. Inez Olivera finds out her parents died while traveling in Egypt. Due to suspisions and out of stubberness, Inez breaks society norms and travels to Egypt alone to search for the truth.
I absolutely loved how Isabel Ibanez had such vivid descriptions of the locations Inez was, really placing the reader in the mind. She also had themes of breaking society norms for women, love, colonization and more. The twists and turns in this book will keep you on your toes. I can’t wait to get a moment to read the sequel, as Isabel Ibanez left us on a cliff hanger.

A must read. Lora Chilton is an Indigenous Author whose ancestors are Patawomeck. She tells of the love, fight and return to their roots through Golden Fawn and Shining Moon. They are two women who survived the massacre and sold to planations in Barbados.
This was also a great reminder that Native American tribes faced death through massacres, diseases and those that survived were enslaved and stripped of their cultures.
One thing I want to note is that Lora describes that the Jewish People didnt believe in slavery and helped. The Jewish family described embraced the women.

What we aren’t going to do in 2025 is be ablist. Read however many books you want at whatever speed you want. As someone who reads at 2.5-3x speed often, it’s because of my autism and adhd. Reading is not a competition. Im reading because I love it.
I also want to suggest if you do not want to use audible that you use Libby and Hoopla which use your library card. Chirp, Barnes and Nobles, Spotify also have audiobooks.
