Daft Punk - Get Lucky
After months years of waiting, two 15sec SNL ads, an album cover, a pre-order website, a 1:40min Coachella video teaser, a vine tracklist disclosure, a huge amount of fakes, edits, remixes, four "collaborators" videos with Moroder, Edwards, Rodgers and Williams describing successively how awesome it was to work with Daft Punk, and sometimes unveiling samples, riffs or lyrics from the album, a release date set to May 21st, false tour dates announced, fake exclusive broadcasts announcements, and so on.. The robotic whales of house music finally officially released the first single from their upcoming album: Get Lucky.
It's actually similar to an unmastered version that leaked yesterday, so the monster "YOU WILL SEE US EVERYWHERE BUT HEAR US NOWHERE" marketing campaign by Columbia records was one day close to perfection.
I don't know how to feel about it. On the one hand I'm honestly a bit disappointed as I was expecting somewhere the genuine Daft Punk touch, and by that I mean the powerful house bass that made them (see there, there, and there), instead of a Breakbot-like bassline, more funky than house, but on the other hand I can't count the hours I looped the SNL ads and edits/remixes from it, telling to myself "OMAGAD IT'S AWESOME THEY'RE BACK #jizzinmypants #vivelafrance". Maybe I just set my expectations too high, and the more I'll listen to it, the more I'll like it. And on second thought, that's what happened with Homework, Discovery, and Human after all. So let's groove and wait until May 21st for the full version of the track (expecting a Rodgers massive intro or solo) and of course the album. Already ordered the Vinyl and the CD. Buy yours, they deserve it.
