WIP Wednesday

“Honey, I’m home!” Eddie calls out when he walks through the living room, Buck can hear his smile. “Is your butt feeling any better?”

Heat flushes up his face and Abuela turns to look at him, amused, “Ay, how is your butt?”

“Abuela?!” Eddie sounds surprised, “Uh, I didn’t know you’d be here.”

“Does your Abuela really need to announce every visit?” She asks, grinning, before pulling him into a hug, kissing his cheek. “Ah, you smell.”

Buck snorts, “Grandmotherly love.”

“Alright, alright,” Eddie says, laughter in his voice, “I’ll go take a shower. It smells nice in here, is that Mexican lasagna?”

“Sure is,” Buck answers, wiping his hands on a towel.

“Ah, one of my favorites.” Eddie winks at him before going to the bedroom, getting ready for a quick shower.

“Uh,” Buck starts, looking at Abuela, “I- I went mechanical bull riding yesterday. That’s why… we didn’t…”

She laughs as he stammers, “Let’s start prepping dessert.”

“Yeah,” he mumbles, still blushing. “Yep. Dessert. Coming right up.”

Tidbit tuesday

This fic now has a title: where do all the cowboys run. It doesn't have anything to do with the song I named it after, I just liked the lyrics as a title

My plan to finish before tomorrow did not work. It was supposed to be 10k. Is now 20k... might end up 30k...

Eddie reaches up, touching Buck’s cheek, “You’re getting a sunburn. You literally just used sunscreen.”

“You’re too hot for the sunscreen, babe,” Buck says, grinning.

Eddie huffs and stops to grab the sunscreen from his bag, “I swear, you’re like Snow White. I’m half expecting animals to come out and talk to you.”

Buck snorts, “I wish.”

“Come here,” Eddie says. Buck patiently leans forward, letting Eddie smear yet another layer of sunscreen on his face.

“You’re such a dad,” Buck complains, “Not even Bobby would put this much sunscreen on me.”

“Yes, he would,” Eddie replies, “He’s seen how red you turn in the sun. It’s like you’re camouflaging as a fire truck.”

“I do get a great tan after it, though,” Buck says, grinning.

Eddie hums, “Sure, Buck.”

“You’re making me look like Olaf,” Buck says, looking cross-eyed at his now white nose.

“I’d rather date Olaf the snowman than Sebastian the lobster,” Eddie says easily.

Buck sighs. Yeah, he walked right into that one. Eddie chuckles at him own joke, making Buck smile as well. “You’re ridiculous.”

Sunday-Monday snippet

It is technically Monday, but 24 hours ago it would've been Saturday. Yay daylight savings!

But yeah. It's 00:33 and I've been staying up to write. Oops? Here's a snippet.

“Eddie?” He doesn’t know why it is a question. Buck has no right to ask questions right now, given that he is the one who showed up at midnight, drenched and exhausted, without a warning.

Eddie glances over his shoulder. “Sit,” he says, pointing at the kitchen table. At least that one looks decent.

Buck sits down with a heavy sigh. He wonders how long it will take until the exhaustion is gone.

“I called off the search party,” Eddie informs him, not looking at Buck as he continues cooking. “Given that you didn’t bother telling anyone where you were after walking away from home.”

“That makes me sound like a runaway teenager,” Buck grumbles. He crosses his arms over the table and rests his head on them. It’s uncomfortable, but it’ll do the trick.

“Buck, you went AWOL for 36 hours,” Eddie replies, sounding frustrated. “Which I didn’t know until Maddie called me in panic to ask if I heard from you.”

Buck winces. Yeah, leaving without telling anyone was probably not a good idea.

Eddie sighs, grabbing two plates from an overhead cabinet, which creaks at the simple touch. “I charged your phone, that you left in your unlocked car. Put your clothes in the wash, since you didn’t even bring any other.”

“It was a… spontaneous decision,” Buck says, closing his eyes. He could fall asleep like this. Listening to Eddie work in the kitchen, scolding Buck with a worried tone. Like the good old days.

There’s a tap on his arm. “Up. Eat. You’ve been asleep for more than twelve hours.”

Buck’s eyebrows raise in surprise as he sits up, giving Eddie the space to place a plate with pancakes on the table. “Twelve?”

“Yes. Twelve.” Eddie does not look impressed. Oh well, it’s not even Buck’s record yet. He once slept for fourteen hours after a grueling 48-hour shift that went overtime.

Buck yawns loudly. Twelve hours and still he craves to crawl back into Eddie’s comfortable bed and sleep.

Time for me to go to sleep as well
