post game on earth c, dirk starts to act and look more and more like bro and it freaks dave the fuck out, at least at first. and then as it goes on, it’s actually a good thing.

‘cause like dirk is closer and more honest with dave than bro ever was, so as these mannerisms start to develop, dave has the freedom and confidence to question the thought behind the behaviour and contextualise it.

a personal favourite example of mine is non-verbal times/ selective muteness. but where on bro that just adds to his intimidation factor because dave didnt know where he was or what he was thinking, on dirk he knows that social exhaustion or doubt make those times happen more, that if he has time to recharge he’ll talk more and that when he does go quiet it’s never to hurt dave.

dave still doesn’t have to understand or forgive bro, but all the triggers that used to send him into panic (maybe dirk leaves a smuppet lying around or dave finds out he keeps swords in his fridge) are rewritten as harmless quirks.

and when there is something that goes too far, that he cant deal with (pick one of a million triggers dave must have) he and dirk have worked towards the kind of friendship where if dave says he’s not comfortable with something, dirk would cut it out. dirk would die for dave, he can certainly give up his dream of one day being able to wear a hat on his head rather than his shirt.
