Oni Au. Concept Art
In a World where Outworld’s empire fell- two once proud beings fell as well-- to keep what they could in-tact.
Adelaide gave up her humanity upon her death in attempt to see the day when Outworld and it’s rulers get their shit together- more or less granting her a limited form of mortality. She’s a more chaotic force in Outworld’s environment, filled with strange knowledge from different eras and different worlds.
Jan’aab followed shortly after the only person who ever held him with great respect, tossing aside the birthright he had been all too eager to fight for after the only love of his life did. Why remain a servant in heaven if you could rule in hell? Jan’aab is proven to be a capable leader, and has mellowed out due to his demonization, and rarely leaves Netherrealm- but words of the arcane things he crafts reach far and wide. His beloved’s legs are a perfect example.

Person A has scars on their back/shoulders (can be self harm, battle scars, etc.). One day A has their back exposed, and B hugs them from behind, kissing down A’s back. When A asks what B is doing, B replies “no one has ever kissed them better before, so I’m doing it now.”

Adelaide let out a sigh and handed him her bags. “Stay right there for a moment. I’m going to climb this. Get a lay of the land….” she says as she is already looking up and hopping to grab a foot-hold. “Juuuust stay riiight there.”
Millikan stood there holding the bags in his hands, eatching Adelaide climb the rocks. He wasnt sure if he should stop her or just let her go.
“Just becareful, I do not want to explain to the kahn how I let his diplomat fall to her death.” Just in case, he set the bags down on the ground.
“I got this,” Adelaide chided lovingly, confidently from where she hoisted herself up. Her happy sing-song voice was replaced soon by small grunts of exertion as she moved from foot-hold to foot-hold- occasionally perforated by the twang of her metal legs warping.
Suddenly, she stopped.
“... Merde,” she cursed suddenly, after hanging still for a long moment.
A metal leg hit the ground.

All About Writing Fight Scenes
@galaxies-are-my-ink asked,
“Do you have any advice on writing fight scenes? The type of scene I’m writing is mostly hand to hand combat between two experts. I’m definitely not an expert so when I try to write it, the scene ends up sounding repetitive and dull.”
Fore note: This post is coauthored by myself and one of my amazing critique partners, Barik S. Smith, who both writes fantastic fight scenes and teaches mixed martial arts, various artistic martial arts, and weapons classes.
I (Bryn) will tell you a secret: I trained MMA for seven years, and when I write authentic hand to hand fight scenes, they sound dull too.
The problem with fight scenes in books is that trying to describe each punch and kick and movement (especially if it’s the only thing you’re describing) creates a fight that feels like it’s in slow motion.
I write…
Lowering her center of gravity, she held her right hand tight to her face and threw a jab towards his chin. He shifted his weight, ducking under her punch. His hair brushed against her fist, and he stepped forward, launching a shovel hook into her exposed side.
But your brain can only read so fast. In real life that series of events would take an instant, but I needed a full eight seconds to read and comprehend it, which gave it an inherent lethargic feel.
So, we have two primary problems:
How do we describe this fight in a way the reader can understand and keep track of?
How do we maintain a fast paced, interesting fight once we’ve broken down the fight far enough for readers to understand it?
(We will get back to these, I promise.) But for now, let’s look at…
Different types of “fight scenes:”

“We are not lost.” Millikan followed after her, tissing the rock aside. “I just lost track, I know where to go from here.”
“Uh-huh,” Adelaide said, wryly crossing her arms. “Thennnn you can tell me how long it’ll take to get to Z’unkarah?”
“Pfft.” Millikan took a look around, trying to figure out where they were exactly. The longer he took to look around, the more he reaslized they were lost.
“We shouldnt be to far, maybe we should back track to the split rock and…”
“Millikan, I’m a diplomat,” she pointed out, then pointed to the nearby rock face. “See the layers of this rock formation?” she asked. “… It has less layers of rock than you do ham. We’re lost.”
“Not lost, just got off track.” There was no way he was going to admit that, even if the truth was evident. “I’m a native, I would know.”
“If you have any suggestions, please share.” That was one way of admitting it.
Adelaide let out a sigh and handed him her bags. “Stay right there for a moment. I’m going to climb this. Get a lay of the land....” she says as she is already looking up and hopping to grab a foot-hold. “Juuuust stay riiight there.”

“ Do you think you could survive a seven-hundred foot fall? ”
“That depends, where am I falling from and if I am able to teleport mid way.” Millikan paused for a moment, thinking. “It’s a big possibility but in reality, no.”
Adelaide nodded, then seemed to think something.
“… Okay, then I won’t fall, then,” she said as she ambled to the nearest rock formation. “Give me… I don’t know, an hour?”
“Alright.” Millikan looked down at the stone in his hand then quickly lools back at Adelaide wide eyed.
“WAIT…WHERE ARE YOU GOING?” He asked, more like demanded. The real question he should have asked is what was she up to.
“I’m going to go climb that big rock,” she said, tiredly and almost like it should have been obvious as the plastic tips of her metallic legs made little gripping tracks in the dirt as she walked. “It’s the best vantage point, and we’re clearly lost.”

Elder✿ "How are the kids?"
Adelaide smiled softly, scratching her shoulder. Her hair is long, gray now- but despite being in her fifties she has the appearance of someone who’s maybe just in her forties.
“Calcai has started to collect a fan-following of little hunters...” Adelaide said, looking quite proud. “And you said his ability to climb would be a problem.”

[Elder✿ ] "Is everyone still alive in the future? Who is gone and who is still here?!" The anonymous questioned.
Adelaide, long gray hair places a hand on Gray’s face.
“Ssshhh... You’ve always been so energetic, Gray...” Adelaide says as she adjusts in her seat. She’s no longer wearing prosthesis.
“Ko’atal is still alive... If I’d have to say he’s nearing what most would consider his mid-forties if he was a human being... Though he ACTS like he’s about to die. Honestly- If I hear him complain about the pain in his back one more day I’m going to throw a leg at him.”
Adelaide pauses, thinking long and hard about something. “... You knew Jan’aab right? His little half-brother? The one who was denied the throne? Well, he and a majority of the people in Tichillan left. They’re now in Abnal and he’s KING, so he’s very pleased about that. He complains with Ko’atal.
“... Erron’s not necessarily getting older, per say. Awful hard to do when you’re cursed like he is... Though some of his hair is getting white from stress. But his hair is going white from stress, his skin isn’t what it used to be, and his internal organs are beginning to fail him more frequently... So I guess he’s still not immune from aging...”
Adelaide continued to strum her fingers on the arm of the chair. “Syzoth is still sleeping on the roof of the palace during the day. Can’t notice any change with him... Ferra has passed on. Geero is now a new mount with a rider... Ermac? I think Ermac died... But peacefully, in his sleep. I think his body just finally gave out. It must be nice to be free of so many voices. I hope they’re all alright... Who else...”
Adelaide’s lips pursed in a tight thought.
“... Millikan is alive as far as I know. Still can throw a nasty kick... The... Er...” she paused. “... I forgot her name. But there was a girl from another land. Wanted her realm free; she’s settled back home. Probably upset the realms can’t be completely separated... But they mostly stick to themselves now...”
The elder scratched her scalp. “... It’s strange. Everyone around me is aging so slowly. Here I am... I’m not even standing and I’m tired from this... Sure, I’m... Ninety-seven, now? I think? Something to do with my blood... Erron mentioned it earlier. Even so I’m a LOT older than anyone else I know...” she smiled. “Glad to have met them all.”
