New York, where photo scanning is a real estate investment.

We have been scanning photos in New York City for over 3 years, and one of the more common reasons we hear from clients for using our digitization service is that they literally no longer have the space at home to hold onto multiple boxes of old memories; photos, film reels, and video tapes that previously were inaccessible.

This is understandable, considering the price per square foot in the real estate capital of the world.. Manhattan. If you're paying $75 per square foot every year (at the low end!) then you are probably paying a few hundred dollars a year for the space taken up by old analog media.

In a city where twenty somethings are living in closets just to get by, you can imagine better uses for the space, possibly even turning a profit! The old saying that time is money applies here in multiple ways. The space taken up by old media is paid-for real estate, and the memories themselves are priceless.

So digitally preserve everything you want to keep from your box of memories, make sure it's backed up, and send off the originals (if you can't let the originals go, look into a relative's space or mini storage!).

And then, maybe, you can rent out that closet. =)
