That's because the world isn't functioning under true proper democracy, that's the issue.
Sure it is still democracy because majoral vote and all, BUT the voice of the people doesn't matter. The parliament is supposed to act as representatives of the common folk, but they are all old rich Geezers, who you can't vote out even if you tried to! (In Latvia especially. You vote in a new party, suddenly there's a vote recount and all the same fuckers who've been sitting in parliament since the USSR are back in their seats.)
So yeah, we are functioning under a pseudo democracy. Which - yeah if you rally up several million people and count all their votes it's gonna take forever, but like... make it make sense, right? At least listen to the people
Hi! Just wanted to say thank you for bringing up Rinkēvičs in the "Biden is most supportive world leader" post! A lot of my countries folks are shitting all over him for being gay, so I'm happy to see foreigners seeing him and just knowing about our little shithole country!
Hi! The fact that the world is ready for queer presidents warms my heart with hope soso much. Incredibly upsetting, though not surprising, that some people are not ready to change with it. But I feel like we as a society don't talk much about how Latvia made the democratic decision to vote a gay man as president. especially when usamericans live in that weird bubble where they think they're the most progressive country in the world...

Latvia is mostly comprised of old conservative folks, since our youth all fuck off outta there at the latest right after university coz Latvia is literally survival mode. I mean cmon, average rent is 300 euros, and minimum wage is 400, a loaf of bread costs 70 cents, milk around a euro, eggs 2 euros. You do the math.
The democratic vote though... so let me let you in on a secret - our government is corrupt as shit. The vote is always rigged towards the president who is most beneficial to the parliament. Civilians vote - but it's a popularity vote, it doesn't matter who we the people vote in, parliament makes the final choice and it's usually predetermined already before the rally's. According to my friend (whose dad was a politician in one of the major parties, which is why I know this information) - this voting period none of the parties could agree on who would be most beneficial, so there was no predetermined winner. Rinkēvičs won, because he genuinely was the most politically savvy candidate and has been the minister of foreign affairs for YEARS before. So he was voted in as someone who knows how everything works.
The past couple of presidents (Zatlers for example who was a heart surgeon with no political education) were sock-puppets for the parliament, unable to argue or veto anything coz they knew NOTHING of politics. The one good president we had? Vaira Vīķe-Freiberga, who had a political and economic education and degree from Canada, and now Rinkēvičs is the second president with an actual education and knowledge in politics. So I am hopeful he will fix our shithole and actually do what's best for our country. Currently he is focusing on LGBTQIA+ Rights in Latvia, so that's a good sign for our youth.

Nah, I agree with you on that - people's reading comprehension is just ass as of late.
You're either good or bad, there's no such thing as good person fucked up, or bad person has at least some morals - You're Mother Theresa or Satan himself no inbetween.
And that is so stupid, coz the moment you would hold up a mirror to these people they would maybe remember part of the opening lyrics of MDZS-
"good and evil are but empty concepts"
And
"Distinguishing right from wrong, love from hate, the boundaries are unclear, Understanding one another is like a fleeting dream."
It's not fucking chess, it's not black against white. There are some evil assholes (Hi Wen Ruohan and Jin Guangyao) but like ffs please learn to understand that humans are more complicated than that jesus fucking christ on a bicycle-
My favorite part of MDZS is that most of the characters felt HUMAN! They did stupid shit when angry, they lied, they made mistakes. Even Lan Zhan - Mister Purity himself - has fucked up on more than one occasion! Because they are fucking human and even the best and kindest and sweetest person in the world can do something unforgivable, even by just staying quiet when you shoulda probably said something.
Honestly, agreed with you on JC. Like did he fuck up? Yes. So did literally everyone else in the story, I think the only mostly innocent ones are the juniors! Like a lot of folks fucked up in MDZS the story is about dealing with your mistakes! Wwx and Lwj both threw themselves into fixing it, JC is traumatized and acting out on it (a few good years of therapy and a proper apology from WWX could fix at least some of it), and many more! They have LAYERS so when people go like "Oh JC a bitch" YES BUT PLEASE READ WHY AND MAYBE SHOW SOME EMPATHY GDI-
I think one of the problems that I've seen repeated a lot is that some people in the fandom aren't able to empathize with both sides of the situation at the same time.
recently I said "it's normal for jc to be traumatized by what the wen sect did to him, it was literally torture and genocide" and several people said in response "so you think it was right that innocent wen were killed? you want to kill a-yuan??" like- they think that pointing out one character's individual feelings means that everyone else's feelings are no longer valid.
as if they weren't all happening at the same time.
as if the other characters were just an extension of the protagonist and not their own individuals with feelings, goals and ideals, regardless of whether they're good or bad. even the wens are just used as a convenient argument to make everyone but wwx look bad most of the time.
most characters don't exist just to revolve around wei wuxian. not everyone is lan wangji, who seems to exist only to love wwx and follow him in his shenanigans. they will have their own experiences, traumas and dynamics with each other, and they're going to fuck up, or they will make decisions that don't agree with the protagonist because they think differently and I think a lot of people don't like that.

tired of walking on eggshells pretending like i don’t care about shipping when i do actually. sue me but i crave romance and i think it’s fun to write. i WANT to ship my characters. i don’t care if our first interaction is setting the foundation for a plotted ship. the best part is this still doesn’t mean shipping is my main focus but god the purist culture the rp community has developed around shipping and painting it as some moderately taboo thing that you should only ever indulge at a strict minimum is so exhausting. ship with me.

realizing cis women also struggle with “passing” a lot of times and has a lot of the same issues with dysphoria trans women have (issues with putting on/losing weight, dissatisfied with bust size, not feeling “feminine” enough, etc.) has done a lot to combat dysphoria for me, cause it’s like, wow, we really have a lot more in common than we have in difference huh
