The most biting feeling of all is you made me feel safe, feeling like I finally had a family-like I had a home-So I put everything in, and then poof you were gone. Just like that, complete nothingness in return.

Let me tell you about this lovely family that I’ve had the pleasure of working with; The Bergs. They’re active in the Simi Valley community. They organized the local shoebox nonprofit Operation Christmas Child. When they did, their entire living room was filled with shoeboxes up to the ceiling; you should have seen it! They have also worked with Children’s Hunger Fund. They are just wonderful people. Not only can Maleah dance and sing herself, but she also taught Irish dance to children. I had been giving Maleah lessons, but not only has she stopped doing lessons, but her life has also basically stopped. She’s stopped doing everything because she was diagnosed with Ehlers-Danlos Syndrome. She is so young and is such a bright light, and has such a great life to get back to. Right now, she is at Spero Clinic in Arkansas, the only place where she has the possibility of having a chance at that life back. But, the cost for the treatment is steep and is not covered by insurance. Again, though, the treatment is Maleah’s best chance for recovery and the only option. Happy Birthday, dearest @imgavi I am so grateful you were born and our paths crossed during our lifetimes. I want to celebrate your life and the incredible person you were. You were the best, most genuine and loyal friend who changed my life in so many ways; I just wish I could still see your face in this realm. I miss you tremendously all the time. Losing you was guttural and still gets the best of me often. I celebrate you, your life and friendship and what it truly meant to me. Your vibrance illuminated everywhere you went. It’s certainly much dimmer without you here. Remembering your outlook when I lose perspective has helped me pick up some better habits (even piano) I have to remember to have the attitude you did because you just got it done and you lived your fullest life, and it was so inspiring and exhilarating to see you do it! Peace and joy to everyone. I hope you are safe and were able to feel warm, comfortable, and joyful yesterday somehow, wherever you were, and however you spent it. If you didn’t or you haven’t found any of those things yet, I truly hope with all my heart that you do you find them. If you’ve lost someone you love - this year I feel you, and I’m praying for you. I’m missing a lot of my friends and one of my students but I know they are in a better place with no more pain. I hope you can find some peace in knowing that they want us to be happy and find peace in ourselves too. Live for their memory and love everyone the best you can everyday. The air is filled with so much smoke on the West coast today...Actually much like it was 19 years ago on September 11 when we were attacked. As we remember those we lost 19 years ago, and then those whose health declined and then later paid the ultimate price for going in and risking their lives to preserve ground zero as best they could, thank you. Thank you for your service and for what you gave to our country and for your heart. You are our American Hero’s, As are all of our firefighters and police in my opinion, they really do risk their lives everyday. No matter what. It takes a special kind of person to walk right into the the blaze and take it down. Yesterday was a celebration of your life and the only thing missing was you, buddy. I’d like to think my musical angels up there have been showing you the ropes already, you’ve all formed a bad ass band, and you’ve been showing them that beautiful smile that I so miss. We all miss you terribly down here and wish so many things went differently, and that we could have saved you. Yet, here we are- almost a year later learning everyday to live without you physically here, and it has been far from easy. Thomas, you’ve made me a better teacher, however. You’ve made me care more than I ever could about my students. I thought I couldn’t care more- but after what happened I became so invested, not only in their success but also in their well being as humans in this tough world of bullies, alienators, misunderstood artists, misfits, and all of its complex craziness. The world can be viscous and especially so when you are sensitive as you were. But you cannot keep it all inside and you have to talk to someone, you have to be able to trust that people care, because we did, and still do. I planted a tree last night, on your birthday, hoping to symbolize a clean slate for you and a new beginning.
