SHE’S really not as irritated as her attitude suggests ; of course, she’s been frowning, glaring at the tracks this whole time, but being late isn’t a fatal affliction. she was actually LYING about having places to be, but she assumes that there’s still a large pile of work at home she should work on as soon as she can. ( perhaps she should just take some out now, to make some sort of dent ... )

& PETRA. i’m re-writing a LOT of okuda’s history this weekend & changing up her family/npcs. i’d appreciate it if you took the time to just re-read the info when it’s done because i tried to add more depth to her work & personal life ... there's actually a lot of important parts about her father that i added.

silence   captures   his   mind   :   empty   and   with   no   trace   of   proper   focus   anywhere   across   its   broad   horizons.   broad,   empty   horizons   walked   with   no   purpose   behind   each   lightweight   step   /   each   step   made   lacking   curiosity   for   where    it   falls   upon.   with   naught   but   distant   fascination   for   the   flashing   colors,   mayhaps   even   blinded   to   pure    numbness   by   it,  flashing   sounds    passing   through   his   ears   at   such   a   speed    that,   even   if   he   wanted   to,    it   sets   itself   impossible   to   be   caught.    

rest    is    found   within   the    depths   of   a   well  -  tucked   store,   black   eyne    washing   over    its    content    and   swallowing    the    scenery  `fore   him,    interest    finally   awaken   and   piqued.  however,    daniel’s    attention    slips    elsewhere    within   seconds,   completely   unaware   to   it,    and,   in   lieu   of    words    his    eyebrows    raise,   forcing   a   line   `pon   his    shoulder        ———–    which   doesn’t   appear,   once   his   voice   comes,   followed   by   a   short,   sheepish   laugh.

                          ❛      maybe   so   that    everyone    may    have    it       —— ?   not   everyone   is   bathin´  in   money,  unfortunately.     ❜

OKUDA gives a short huff of amusement, the hints of a grin visible on her lips, but she shakes her head to dismiss it & instead settles on a neutral ( bordering on FROWN ) expression. less & less does she manage to find herself SURPRISED, but when she is, she cannot help but to stifle a laugh & admit that she was tricked. 

of course, the initial AMUSEMENT that his words give quickly dies, & okuda again is left to her own cynicism. she’s well aware of the economic division between the rich & poor, but simply restating the fact before her doesn’t change her mind. whether or not someone has money is irrelevant, because in the end, an item like this ------ silly & yet a perplexingly common purchase by consumers ------ is still something she would never buy. it’s POINTLESS, something that still confuses her when seen bought en masse, & still advertised like it’s a miracle product.

she’s quite the minimalist ; she wouldn’t understand, if it was a ‘ luxury ’ trinket or not. if it has no purpose, she’s inclined to believe that people who buy it are FOOLISH. & being STUBBORN by nature, she’s willing to defend her position, with a click of the tongue & a roll of her eyes :

‘ but it’s still useless & takes up space, even if it was priced higher. ma- WAIT. don’t tell me you were thinking about buying a FIGURINE like this … ? ’

    “JANKY? ”  The thief craned her neck, first spotting the young girl before following her gaze ; the abomination in question hovering above at them, displaying its glaring Summer colours and overly cheerful aesthetics for all to see. From left to right, she scanned the images : scrutinizing gaze drawn to the many pairs of hands that appeared in the ensemble of models. Evidently, it would seem that the girl did have something of an EYE FOR DETAIL ; Takara honed in on the same oddity in the third model’s left hand. Or rather, the oddity that she assumed Okuda was speaking of — after all, it wasn’t as if her chosen adjective was any sort of HELPFUL.  “ What does that mean? And is it in theOxford Dictionary? ”

    Takara took a small step backwards ( but not before checking over shoulders for possible obstacles or traps ) , relieving the strain on her neck. While she could appreciate those who took care and concern in DETAILS, her past was riddled with enough sleepless nights, pounding migraines, and general lost of vision for the thief to know that theRULE OF MODERATION applied to the detail-orientated, as well. And as far as she was concerned : large-scale, mass-produced advertisements for a hilariously MAINSTREAM brand could be excluded from analysis.

                           “ It’s not that bad, ” she observed lastly, tilting her head to the side for one last moment. “ It’s not the focal point of the piece and if anything, maybe the small imperfection makes the model more relatable to the general consumer population. ”  And perhaps, that was the maximal DEPTH she was willing to go into with this rathermundane observation.  “ Would you have done a better job? ”

A frown teases at her lips, & makes okuda look to the image with even more disdain. like she says, it’s not that bad, but somehow the fact that a professional agency would let it slip seems UNUSUAL. of course, she wouldn’t know much about the mistakes of public advertising ; her attention diminishes from most as soon as she sets eyes upon them. it’s likely that in the past she may have seen similar problems, but quickly forgotten in lieu of something more INTERESTING than the newest sweet drink from a popular beverage company. 

she sighs, & brings a hand to her temple as if to rub away the concern over something so trivial. how silly of her. ‘ JANKY, you know ------ it just looks messed up. i don’t think anyone can relate to having a CLAW like that ... ’

it doesn’t exactly present the best message for the company, either. the more okuda stares at it, the more disturbing it becomes, so she forces her eyes away & blinks hard to wipe the memory. perhaps she’s been working too hard, & the detail-oriented parts of her brain are already becoming entangled in a dense web of confusion. what she truly needs is a bit of rest, & not SOCIALIZATION ------ but being able to pry herself away from this sort of analysis is a promising first step in the right direction ...

& PETRA. … actl shame me so hard because i feel as if i didn’t emphasize some rlly important information about okuda’s canon. i’m sorry !! it’s probably because a. ) my attention span allows me to write like 3 paragraphs a day, and i wrote her entire bio in one day, and b. ) this is my first rp oc and i underestimated how much i should’ve detailed about her. anyways, i’ll be on ‘ vacation ’ ( aka. hanging out in a hotel room while my mum goes to a conference ) for most of next week and i plan to fix up her history / mainverse pages then.

but until i can get my grimy lil hands on that sweet hi-speed hotel wifi, here’s a quick n’ dirty guide :

yes, this is a CYBERPUNK universe. there ARE robots & a.i.s, but many are restricted to working processing jobs. you don’t typically see android-types meandering the streets. most are meant to ( ironically ) uphold traditions, store information, or solve ur super difficult maths problems. they will not take over the world ; their programmers didn’t give them a free-thinking mind bc who does that. the only real exception to a robot being ‘ in power ’ per se is the emperor, who is an a.i. but since japan operates under a constitutional monarchy it has no real power. it essentially stores a script used for instating government officials, and just holds the record of their ranks. not much more than that.

the reason i wanted to bring this up now is because i know androids are somewhat of a cyberpunk trope, but they aren’t part of the main story right now. maybe through some development they may gain importance, but since okuda is a translator i didn’t want anyone to question why a robot couldn’t just do the same thing. they don’t have the right understanding of social cues, and her job has some hard-to-explain POLITICAL influences as well that probably wouldn’t work the same with an android.

that being said, all of the influential characters ( npcs ) are human. they make human mistakes, and i really just want to be able to explore the consequences of those mistakes. they may have a heavy reliance on technology, but i don’t plan on having a robot character play any key role in the mainverse.

wang guanyu’s WHOLE STORY i seem to have left out, but he’s as important as okuda in some ways. a really shoddy summary is that : 

he grew up impoverished in china, to a family that was essentially enslaved working in the factories there. the quality of work was poor and even worse was the social structure of his district that started to evolve through his childhood. he ended up being on the very bottom on account of some physical disabilities that prevented his parents and he from being able to work enough to support themselves, and most of his neighbors/peers shunned him for it.

he started stealing to survive, and abandoned his religion as well as his respect for authority figures to work on his own. at one point he even disappeared from home for a week to see what he could salvage as food from nature.

inevitably, guanyu got in trouble with those authorities he scorned, and [ insert something really bad here. i’m not sure what, but it was something terrible enough to urge him to try smuggling himself via air transit to japan ].

when he was deported from japan and sent back to china, he ended up in shanghai where he was initiated into a rebel faction ( nameless for the time being ). and within a decade he’d worked his way up through the ranks where his fellow members had instead been killed or arrested. 

presently he’s one of the EAU’s most wanted terrorists. he organizes a lot of questionable crimes, but supposedly does it for the better of the union. in effect, though, he’s destroying economy and it’s just ... not great.

i hope to at some point have him reunite with okuda and try to convince her to help him. she’s NOT a criminal and likely wouldn’t go along with it but ?? who knows ?? if she gets involved on accident or somehow cracks into it ? could be fun, we’ll see.

i know i stated in the mainverse page that nations of the EAU each have a respective ‘ specialization ’ but i am not limiting those countries to ONLY produce what that specialty is. in no way do i just see japan as a tech country, or north korea as a military polity, or south korea as a media capitol. of course i will at some point detail their economies, but to be general i used the word ‘ specialization ’ to describe what aspect of their economies creates the highest percentage of income.

okuda will probably become fluent in more than the four languages i listed before. it seems necessary to make her more knowledgeable in foreign languages as a translator. also, considering her high iq and interest in studies, i see her as the type of person to enjoy actively learning various languages. while it’s not going to be her only hobby, communication is a large theme of her canon, and she will be honing her lingual skills as much as possible.

her father works at KIN, which is an original corporation i’m currently developing. it produces vehicles like cars, hovers, trams, possibly choppers and planes, but also is closely connected to the government bureau of transport in managing and maintaining existing public transport systems. i’m also debating whether or not to make him a c.e.o., stockholder, or simple branch manager. it would dramatically change okuda’s social standing and likely economic status so it’s something i have to think about for a while :/

also i’m going to develop city officials like police, firefighters, and probably some sort of cyber security detail team. 

more npcs will pop up, i promise. okuda has lived a somewhat sheltered life thus far so i’m thinking about trying to add more characters in her childhood life, or possibly even work colleagues just to increase the diversity in the canon. 

there’s probably a lot i’m missing but again my attention is starting to fade out so i should pause now.
