speaking more from my last post about shadow magic and its just. so interesting tbh. like the first mention of shadow magic comes from khrysalis when we enter the eclipse tower and it gives us interesting looks into how shadow magic as a whole is regarded in the spiral…

its so insane to hear that its a forbidden magic and that grandmother raven and BARTLEBY of all people forbade it to be taught. raven i could probably understand, but considering we are now bartlebys scion… it’s hard to think about the possibility that he didn’t trust us before. an outsider from the spiral learning a forbidden magic…

i think what’s also interesting is the fact that the shadow magic the wizard learns is a wholly unique one. shadow magic corrupted the moon magic inside the tower, so there’s a possiblity that our wizard only knows this specific subset of shadow magic—one that’s been permanently altered by moon magic in the eclipse tower, and one that can only be taught by sofia darkside.

it makes me wonder if velma knows the same kind, or if hers and the wizard’s shadow magic is different… is one more volatile than the other? or if there’s no difference at all and im looking into it too much lolol

knowing this and knowing raven forbade anyone in the spiral from ever learning shadow magic, it would make a little bit of sense for how hostile she initially seems towards the wizard… if we take what we saw from the book of secrets, then we know that magic law states that nothing is an accident—magic is reactive and ‘sentient’ to a certain degree, so there was no mistake in the wizard freeing grandfather spider from his prison using magic, because that’s what they wanted.

granted it was for other reasons… but it doesn’t paint a pretty picture of any of us. the wizard learns shadow magic, the wizard frees spider, and then spider goes on to say that theyre his favorite.

i think what makes this particularly more tragic is the fact that the wizard didn’t even have a choice. sofia says this herself!

they need to learn it. the sword of kings isn’t enough. being a child of prophecy isn’t enough. they failed once before, and theyre not eager to fail again. theyll try anything, and everything, and that includes… freeing grandfather spider.

which, you know, speaking of backlash… sofia mentions it too lol.

which is interesting to me… i always complained that the morganthe fight needed a bit more oomph—which, i still believe it does, to some extent—but i think how she died was a fitting end to her. crushed underneath the weight of her own powers, her own shadow—her backlash. she was the instrument of her own defeat, and, well… that could have very well been the wizard. she’s our reflection, our parallel. i think it’s why the wizard never mentions or claims that theyre the one that did her in—because they technically… didn’t, but they also did. which is cool!

finally the arc 4 design

They wear a helmet now so that their face is less recognizable, so they can do their job without any delay. ( The wizard is quite famous at this point) They no longer try to hide the eye that's effected by shadow, embracing what they know and what they are.

DO NOT ask them how they feel about the leader of new corgia or any of the other leaders in novus they WILL want to punch something.

If arc 4 teaches my wizard anything its self control and patience. The patience to let karma do its thing AND FUCKING KICK THOSE BITCHES TO THE CURB-

dawg i miss arc 3 so fucking much. I miss bat and mellori dawg. I remember people got super excited because they thought we would see dyvim in walleru but he wasn't there so my question is: why were they able to milk malistare as a villain for 2 arcs but after we finish arc 2 and arc 3 we just...don't ever see them again?

if mellori is doing stuff at raven wood for ambrose why don't we ever go back and check on her? actually thats a good question, after both of thier parents are locked away forever in the primordial garden wtf happens to mellori and bat? Do they stay there?

My memory is fuzzy so ill have to refresh myself when i get another membership and finish my ice playthrough. Yes, I missed arc 3 so much I did the entire game again.

But if mellori is locked away in the primordial garden like raven and spider, then wtf about baba yaga? does she just lose the daughter she's been raising all those years?

imma be honest, desin is nice! i like him, stand-up guy. But the characters in karamelle, lemuria, novus, and walleru are just.... meh ( glad we got to see sandiago again tho! i wish he brough istar with him because i miss her and she would of been REALLY funny.)

i dont care about the league of heros tbh i want more npcs like mellori and bat ,who seem to be around the wizards age kinda. let the wizard hang out with more teens and young adults rather than like middle aged people!

And fuck every single one of those novus fuckers i would literally pay kingsile to let us punch them or fight them and then they lose and cry like babies.

spider knows that people are wary of us because we are "tainted" with shadow and he definitely takes advantage of that. Surrounded by beings of light, but only the shadow understands being ostracized.

Also! the explanation for the edgy one-eye purple thing: Shadow magic is about sacrifice, the backlash, and the punishment you have to face for not handling it correctly.

My wizard got low-key hooked on using shadow seraph and hungry caterpillar and throughout Krysalis that catches up to them. (if you check my arc 2 ref the right eye is darker than the left )

But also it's a shift in perspective. Being able to see the spiral not just through the lenses of light but through the lenses of shadow too. To be able to fight for the spiral whether that means teaming up with the child of light or the child of shadow ( fun fact: after adventuring with the bat their eye receives a deeper purple)

Shadow magic isn't evil it is misunderstood, much like what my wizard goes through in arc 3.

Inconvenient fight

But I can definitely see my wizard having a fight with mellori before she gets kidnapped. Mellori's job is to what raven says. My wizards job is to protect the spiral at any cost. Its interesting that raven thought the wizard would do what she says since she guides us in previous fights, but in reality the wizard has one job and will do it no matter what. Also I should mention despite the fem appearance, my wizard is non binary.

there was a tiktok I made a while ago basically saying "your abusive ex boyfriend is more likely a misogynist than a narcissist" and while most people agreed some said I was victim blaming(?) and that I couldn't know what their ex is like, and while obviously I don't, every fucking person describing their narcissistic ex is describing a typical misogynist. ask yourself, is this behavior you associate with narcissism directed at women or does he treat his male friends the same way? is his general functioning in life impaired?

many people don't seem to know this, but a mental disorder is NOT based on symptoms alone, it's based on how much the symptoms actually impair you in daily life. most people could look at a list of mental disorder symptoms and identify either themselves or someone else with them. as far as a narcissistic personality, we all know people who appear more self absorbed than others, but this is typically subclinical narcissism (presence of narcissistic traits without significant impairment of functioning) which is not a disorder. there is also a misunderstanding of what npd is. a narcissist is not a supervillain invincible to emotion. npd is a defensive reaction to trauma that lead to deep insecurity and fear of being seen as weak or vulnerable. so narcissists aren't actually "in love with themselves" at all and often are diagnosed when seeking help for other issues such as substance abuse resulting from their struggles.

this focus a lot of abused women in online pop psychology have on narcissism is particularly concerning because it completely glosses over misogyny which is literally a huge factor in violence against women. people really only know misogyny as a surface level thing. they don't know it can lead to family annihilation, for example, and is one reason most family annihilations are committed by the husband. it's always "this man is a sociopath" "this man is a narcissist" when the man's behavior is driven by ideology. I am so fucking tired of everything being tied to mental illness and left at that. you know what this leads to? courts "fixing" abusive men by...giving them anger management therapy. guess what? it doesn't fucking do anything because the problem isn't mental instability leading to anger, it's targeted, purposeful abuse. we are getting nowhere

I love how in this you can see how angry your wizard is when they find out that ione suspected you as a spy. and I mean reasonably so since you put so much time into working for them only for them to suspect you as the enemy.
