I think the hesitancy from some people to believe in medical trauma comes from a hesitancy to believe that there is a specific kind of power dynamic between medical professionals and people receiving medical care. and I think this kind of hesitancy exists when you're talking about any "caring profession". part of this is an inability to understand that someone can do harm even whilst believing they are acting in your best interests. but I think a lot of it is an inability to see disabled people as human beings who have our own opinions and desires, and therefore should be afforded autonomy over our lives and bodies. and I think if you can't understand how someone might have trauma from interactions with the medical system, you just have not been paying enough attention to how the medical system functions

THE PINTRO (PINNED INTRO)
Hi! If you're here, you probably already know me but here are the basics.
I'm Lev, I'm in my mid-20s, I'm very Queer and disabled. I use fae/faer or they/them pronouns ONLY. My main blog is @unheavenlymother where I post whatever I want and be generally weird.
I have A LOT of things wrong with me, which include but are not limited to: diabetes (since I was 2), gastroparesis, hidradenitis supprativa, hypothyroidism, psoriatic arthritis, chronic tachycardia, blood clotting disorder, and various hormone issues. I recently finished treatment for neuroendocrine cancer of the stomach! I suffer from a variety of mental health issues, I am quite literally crazy/psychotic, it's not a joke if I call myself that, ok? I've also survived four heart attacks, fracturing my spine and being stabbed. #unkillable 鉁岋笍
I will probably/hopefully tag posts about each disorder accordingly, and that'll be about it.
Diabetic Werewolf Syndrome is how my childhood endocrinologist explained hypoglycemia (low blood sugar) to my parents, it's not real but I wish it was. The Wolf, shoveling spoonfuls of Nutella in their mouth, "Lev's not here right now, can I take a message?"
My doctors have called me a "medical anomaly" and an "anatomical challenge".

this is your daily reminder to stop being abusive and mean toward people with bladder and bowel issues.
im tired of hearing people mock those who struggle with bladder/bowl control, for people who can't tell when they need to go until it's too late or at all, for people who have uncontrollable voidings and leaking, for people who need to wear incontinence products around the clock, for people who need them influctuating amounts and need different kinds of products, for those who bedwet, for those who can't afford incontinence products so their clothes get dirty- to everyone with bowel and bladder issues.
we are human. we are still people. we are not gross, we are disabled. we are struggling with a disability. if you make cutesy posts about canes and wheelchairs, you need to include people who wear diapers, people who need plastic pants, plastic bedsheets and absorbent bed pads. you need to include people who can't tell when they need to go. people who need/use catheters. people who have colostomy bags. people with stained and dirty clothing. people who have to change their incontinence products in public.
you need to include autistic and ADHD and ND and disabled people who feel unsafe without diapers. you need to include people with spinal injuries and ehlers danlos syndrome and muscular control disorders with need incontinence products and feel safe with them. you need to include people who like their diapers and not just tragic stories where it's never discussed or doesn't negatively impact their life and livelihood.
please include all disabilities in your disability positivity posts, and please be kind and treat all disabled people with respect and humility, including those of us with symptoms you may find "gross".
