Transmedia - Reflective Statement
This project has taught me many things and I became very self dependent. This project made me take charge as there was no one else to rely on but myself. This is the first time I did a project entirely on my own and this was definitely a growing and learning experience for me. This project made me be more independent and be responsible for the choices and decisions I made. There was no one else to blame as the decisions were made by me so I alone had to face the consequences. It made be aware of how important a choice can be and how much it can affect ones work. This project also helped me to become more confident of my ideas. I learnt how to take in feedback, negative and positive. I realized that I should not dwell in the criticism of my work too much as it was my decisions and effort I put in, so I should be proud of it and more confident of my work. I also learnt that positive feedback can be very helpful as other peoples ideas can help improve my work.
Creating "Crossroads" also helped me improve and develop my skills in cinematography and video/sound editing. I have made experimental films before, but not entirely on my own. A lot of self tutorial were needed which helped developed my skills as I did not settle on what I could already do, but I learnt and tried new things that I imagined would look good in my film. It helped me be independent as I could not depend on people teaching me or helping me so I had to find a way on my own. Filming the scenes was also a learning experience as there were many different camera angles, techniques, lighting, distances, and locations I tried. It was a quite experimental, but if I did not try new things I would not have found new possibilities in filming.
Having to put "Crossroads" in multiple media platforms, was a bit uncomfortable for me as I do not really post anything online and I am not very active on social media. But knowing that I had to put the film up as a criteria for the paper, it slowly made me more active online. It give me an idea of how much an audience I receive, which is good knowledge to have later on in the future if I ever want to put my work online again.
Overall this paper helped me grow and develop as a person. Not only did it develop my skills but also how I think about things. It made me stronger and gave me the opportunity to take charge. Everything I learnt and gained in this paper I am able to take with me into the future. It helped me to be independent and made me realize that negative opinions is not so bad, all that matters is that you get up and keep going. Express your ideas and stick to your decisions is an important thing I learnt. So I am happy with what I accomplished for this project. It was a good experience to have which helped me get ready for the future.

Experimental Imagery - 8
I have been looking at editing the colour, the speed of the image, the transitions of the images and the effects I can out put in the image sequence. It has been a hassle and quite difficult to make every image blend together nicely without loosing its impact. But overall I think I have managed to edit it in a way where there is still a nice flow of the images while emphasizing each key frame.
It has been quite difficult experimenting with an image sequence as I have never done it before. I had to try many different orders and sequences, I also had to look into the pace and speed of the images and the colours. The fast pace of the image sequence made it challenging to edit the images to flow nicely/smoothly as quick cuts give it an intense feel.
Overall I am quite satisfied with with the outcome of this experiment as I had no clue to how I would blend things together and make it flow smoothly. I did a lot or random trials and experiments with the image sequence and everything was completely experimental. I am hoping it shows in the work I created and the experimentation I did.

Experimental Imagery
I had experimented with the order, colour, frame length, transitions, and size of the images. I did not go overboard with the effects as it could ruin the flow of the image sequence. I created it similar to "vine" videos on social media which are 6-7 seconds long.
Here is the final image sequence I came up with.

I had talked to G about how I was planning to set up my exhibition space and I told him my idea of having a TV which replays my film twice with viewers comments and without. I'll also be putting my experimental imagery at the end.
He told me that using 2 iMacs and playing the film simultaneously could be better so that people don't have to wait a long time to see everything. I thought that it was a good idea as having it replay twice could be boring as each of it is 7 mins long.
I tried to change the TV I am planning to borrow to 2 iMacs, but unfortunately it was too late. All the iMacs were booked already booked so I just have to go with the idea I originally had.
I also had a good amount of feedback I could use as comments on my film. I had been putting them in the film that will be playing the second time around. I have been placing the comments in the exact part of the film where the feedback had been said. By the end of the week the I managed to put the comments in. With this done I am ready to set up my exhibition space as I have done everything I needed. I am happy with the time I have left as it gives me a good amount of time to the little, minor things. Also give me time to make sure and double check everything I have done and everything I need.

Mediated Performance
It was difficult to show how we directed and instructed our actor as the camera was always rolling and pointed toward our actor and not towards us. This video is similar to how we instructed our actor behind the scenes. It also shows the improvement and the progress our actor made displaying facial expressions and body language. Although his acting is not up to professional standards, there is definitely improvement since the beginning when he started.

Experimental Imagery - 7
I have decided to use the trial where a story was created from the images. This trial took the most effort and I feel like I should continue working on it and see what progress and outcome I can take from it. I am trying to make the best possible outcome for this image sequence, but it is quite difficult as you can not slow down an image to much as it will look like a freeze frame and will not transition nicely to the other fast pace images that goes after.
An image sequence is suppose to be images playing one after another in a fast speed, so that it can give the illusion similar to one of a movie. I do not want to slow down the images anymore than I need to as I do not want to lose the illusion of a rolling image. It is quite difficult to edit the images at a fast speed as I want to put in effects that last longer than 0.03 seconds, as that is how long each image will show. It does not emphasize or show the full potential the affect can give if the affect only last 0.03 seconds.
It is quite challenging to edit and blend the images nicely together and editing an image sequence is something I have never done before as an image sequence is a technique itself rather than a video that needs editing. I am hoping I can edit the image sequence to a nice standard but minimal effects and editing would create a bigger impact as the image sequence will not lose its flow or be overwhelmed with transitions and effects.

Transmedia - 10
I had a crit a few weeks ago and I got very useful feedback. At first for my exhibition space I was just going to take screenshots of the audience feedback and hang it with my film playing. But someone had mention having semi live comments when the movie is playing and I thought that was a good idea.
I am planning to replay the film twice and the second time through have audiences comments in certain places and area where they have something to say. This way it will be less boring and more interesting rather then just have comments framed on the wall.
I have already put my film on multiple media platforms. I am just waiting for a good amount of time so that I have a range and numerous amount of comments to use to put in my film the second time through.

In this trail I had tried to create a story out of the images. It was really challenging as most of the images looked the same as it was taken from the same scene. The only stories you can really create from the image goes under the genre of love. It took a lot of time and many hours starring at the images to create a story, also with help and feedback of friends that I managed to create a random story. Although it is a different story from my film it is also similar as uses it is love and and friendship. This result may be because the images are taken out from my film that and I am limited to the images I get to chose from. The story is about a man who was heartbroken in the beginning and his friends try to cheer him up but it is no use. He then goes to the beach and thinks about his life, there he meets a girl and falls in love.

I have managed to complete editing my sounds this week. But it wasn't done without any difficulties. I had first planned to created my own sounds because I know exactly what type of sounds I want to go with each scene. But the person I was planning to collaborate with to make the sounds was to busy and his availability did not fit with mine and within my time frame. This was a shame and I had to go with my plan B.
Instead I used royalty free sounds. Which took quite a while to find. There were many choices to choose from but there was never one that was exactly what I wanted. It was time consuming to listen to many songs and find one reasonable to what I want.
But in the end I managed to find songs and edit them into the film. With the sound in the film, it now looks more convincing and the impact, emotions and feelings I wanted to get across also shows better. I still feel like I could have done better but I always feel like that when it comes to my work.
Now I am up to putting it on social media, to be honest I don't really want to put it online as I I don't really want people to see my work. But this is something I will have to get over as it is a criteria for the brief.

Experimental Imagery
In this trail I have used a number pattern. I had gotten 3 people to chose a random number and the numbers I had gotten were 7, 4 and 3.
I would chose every 7th image and keep going until there is no image left. Then I will start again using the image sequence that every 7th image chosen, but this time I will use every 4th image until there is no more images to chose from. After that I will do the same but this time using every third image until there is no more image to chose from. I am using a number pattern as I am curious to see what outcomes it can produce.

This trail is completely random. No reasoning or pattern behind the order, just picking with the order randomly to see what it can produce.

This trail is reversing the original image sequence. It is just playing backwards as I was curious to see what it would look like.

I have numbered each picture in order of appearance in the film. For this trail I have taken the first numbers and used the order 1-9 while the second number is randomly chosen as it is not seen on the screen. For example it can be 11, 28, 34, 42, 58, 67, 72, 89, 9. The first numbers are in order and the second numbers are completely random.

Experimental Imagery - 6
This week I have been experimenting with the sequences in different ways trying to get the best outcome. While experimenting I decided I was going to keep it short and make it around the same length as 'vines'. The funny 6 second videos that go around social media.
So far I am experimenting solely in the order of the images. Once I have decided on the order I will try bend everything together nicely while still keeping it fast image sequence. Meaning not too many effects and transitions that might be unnecessary and make the sequence longer.

Mediated Performance - 7
We have talked to Andy about how we can hand in and submit our documentation and research for assessment. He mentioned that creating a pdf file and sending it to them would be a good way to show our research and what we did. Also to put links of the videos we had on YouTube in the pdf file to show some of our documentation. So that is what we are planning to do. We are going to start writing the pdf file and hopefully we will lay it out in a way that shows everything we did and at the same time not be confusing and boring to read.
I am worried that writing a pdf file might not show everything we did as you can not really see the physical effort we did. The camera was not filming us as we were instructing our actor so it is kind of hard to document what we did and what/how we instructed our actor. I am just hoping that creating a pdf file and the videos we do have will be enough evidence of the work we produced and the efforts we put into improving our actors performance.
