Reflections of Self
Spraypaint and fabric paint on canvas
As humans we have different sides of our personalities which we share with different people in our lives and with this piece I wanted to capture that. In one light, the base view it is what most people get from us. Add in black light or a different group of people and they see a another side of us. No light or the closet people to us see the hidden truth of who we are.

Jackson Pollock
He moved outside the city and quit drinking for awhile, he was making changes in his life to help better himself and being an artist a change in your art can help promote change in your life.
I would say that since Jackson Pollock battled inner demons/ addiction that helped fuel the anger. Battling inner demons can cloud a persons view of things and since it seems he wasn't a peaceful drunk according to the video and had an angry side. When a person is faced with so much emotion that their brain can’t focus or handle the excess of emotion and stress. Some people see abstract art and believe it is simple and basic to create when in reality an artist creating it goes through a lot to make that final piece one sees, which can add extra stress to an already stressed mind.
My thinking is at some point his brain was getting so overloading that he wanted a way of expressing himself in a simpler manner to just channel himself with minimal thoughts or rules. However I don't know when the change in his art started and what was going on in his life.

The art work I picked was Family Group by Giovanni Antonio Fasolo. It was painted in 1565 with the medium of oil on canvas. Unframed the dimensions are 86x71 ½ inches and framed it is 102 5/8x 88 1/4x 3 15/16 inches, which when you are standing in front of it looks huge. The overall colors are dark and muted with a pop of the color red under the girls dress and with the boys tights.
This piece is balanced, in the Center you have the father figure and to his right side you see his daughter and a young son, on his left side you his an older son with the family dog. This piece all shows proportion you can clearly see how old the children could be by their size. The father figure standing center is overpowering showing dominance.
This artwork makes me chuckle, I see it and think of all the “perfect” family portraits and how this is what they could have looked like if they weren't staged. The father is serious and you have children not caring and not looking at the artist.
Family Group is associated with the Renaissance movement. This is a portrait but no one knows who or if anyone ever commissioned it or the family that is painted. After searching and finding other pieces from this artist it was clear he had a sense a humor because the was no way all the families he painted commissioned these funny portraits.
I think the importance of this artwork today would be to relax. People spend so much time comparing themselves to others not realizing that what they see of others isn't the whole picture and this painting shows the real struggles of being a parent. Most painting show “perfection” but this artist kept it real. The main reason I picked this was simple I was stressed and feeling overwhelmed and while browsing painting online this one caught my eye and made me laugh so for a moment I forgot about my stress.

Connecting art to your World
Color or the absence of it affected my life when I was younger. I was raised by my grandmother and aunt who loved to dress us kids in bight white or very pale pink matching clothes. Around 13 years old I didn't want to anymore and fell into a goth “phase” or what I would rather call it as wearing only clothes from a monochromatic scheme which sparked many arguments over needing colors in my life. There is something I find relaxing about dark deep colors verses bright and intense colors, however the only way my aunt would buy me black clothes is if I wore at least one piece of clothing that was brightly colored. One day we went to the mall and I saw an intense bright yet deep red pair of jeans that I had to have my aunt hated them but since it fell into her guidelines she bought them anyway. To this day, 20 years later I am still stuck in that “phase” and I still try to add a pop of color. Normally my color comes from my hair which would be dyed dark purple or a deep red which I will let fade to almost just a minor tint before I redo.
If I had to pick a color scheme to describe my life I would say it would be cool colors.

Journaling: Principles of Design
*Unity and Variety: Unity is when all aspects of the piece are cohesive and the same. Variety is having different colors, shapes, and sizes in your piece.
Tumblr media
This piece shows a variety of colors and shapes. Done using digital program👆🏻
* Balance: is when both sides of your equal. They don't have to be identical.
Tumblr media
With this piece if folded along the red line is not symmetrical but the shapes on the bottom half can be on the top half keeping it balanced. Done using digital program👆🏻
* Emphasis and Subordination: Emphasis is highlighting your main focal point so it stands out more. Subordination can be the absents of color in the areas around your focal point to help it stand out.
Tumblr media
With this piece the absence of color is what makes the focal point where the rest of the piece is colorful. Wood, yarn, and nails 👆🏻
* Directional Forces: When items in the piece all point in the same direction to draw your eyes to look at a certain point.
Tumblr media
The grey muted color of the mountains all pointing to the sunset sky. Paint on canvas👆🏻
* Repetition and Rhythm: Repetition is using the same image over and over to create a pattern. Rhythm the flow or feel used in music, dance, and poetry but can be created by repetition.
Tumblr media
With this the individual images use a repeating to pattern which in turn was used to create piece of the repeating pattern. Digital design👆🏻
* Scale and Proportion: Scale is the size of the individual component in a piece and proportion is the size as it relates in the whole piece.
Tumblr media
Here the size of the water bottle is in question it can be normal size if zoomed in but in the piece as a whole we see the water bottle is larger than the people and trees. Digital design

Group four
Interactive design is a website or app that allows you as user to interact with.
1. Inkscape- sadly doesn't work on mobile devices
2. Procreate-Apple only app
3. Cricut Design Space
4. Snapchat
5. Lollipop & Marshmallow
What makes a good interactive design to me is one that is easy to navigate my way around.
My favorite from the list is hands down Procreate. This app is for apple and I use it on an iPad with the Apple Pencil. The purpose of Procreate is for artist to use for graphic design. Between myself and my twelve year old one of us is on this app daily. It gives an artist many ways of customizing with the Apple Pencil it can be pressure sensitive which adds a little something and everything else from canvas size to brushes can all be customized to the users liking. For a beginner it has lots of preloaded options. It is also pretty easy to navigate and pick up how to use. To me it completely fulfills it's purpose as a graphic design program.

Writing a self- portrait
When viewing art I try to leave the baggage at home since I like to think of art as an escape from reality and put myself in the piece. I am a 38 year old American female that was born in New Jersey and raised by my grandmother along with my siblings. I have moved around quite a bit for no good reasons except I think I'm part Nomad. Florida is where I have lived the longest mainly since my family and my husbands family is here. I am a wife of almost 20 years, a stay at home mother to two daughters that I also homeschool, a stepmother to two adult sons. At times I feel like I run a zoo with 2 dogs, Nibbler a Jack Russell mix and yes he got his name from Futurama and Ceasar a German Shepard mix, 3 quail that are pets not food, a male rabbit named Anya from Bufffy the Vampire Slayer and I foster animals through my local humane society. I am kept rather busy so I don't have time for groups but I do enjoy making jewelry with my daughter, making and customizing things with my Cricut machine, and getting myself in hot water with the husband since I have a little Lucy Ricardo in me. I think something that makes me uniquely me is that I tend to value animal life over human lives. Humans can be cruel whereas animals not so much.

This painting was given to me by my daughter. It is part of a set. It was done with watercolors on thick canvas paper. If you were to see it in person you would see some of the paints have a shimmer to them and shine in the light. I find this to be a beautiful piece of art even though it looks simple. It helps me remember no matter how simple things are they can still have beauty in them.

Introductions/First Artworks
Anish Kapoor 2004-2006 Cloud Gate. Stainless steel; Height 33’ x Length 66’ x Width 42’.
1) This sculpture can be found in Millennium Park, Chicago, Illinois.
2) It weighs around 110 tons.
3) Anish Kapoor is a British- Indian sculptor who was born in Mumbai, India.
4) 80% of its surface reflects the sky.
5) The Chicagoans have nicknamed it The Bean.
When I first looked at the photo of this sculpture all I thought was it how it reminded me of the ship from Flight of the Navigator. Which then got me thinking of other 80s movie I love to watch. The way things look when reflected in it they have a distorted look almost which gives a different way of looking at things around yourself. I do wonder what it looks like when rains hit it or how a rainbow looks reflected in it.
