im just gonna drop this to show how my writing has improved

Red

I remember when we first met. You were quiet and you never smiled, on one hand, I could count the times you laughed; I would only raise one finger though. I made it my mission to get you to smile, I tried talking to you. But you never replied, just stared at me with dark eyes as you let me ramble.

You never told me to go away so I never left, I tried everything to make you happy. You were never impressed, even though you would just stare and never speak. I fell in love. Your strictness made me yearn to appease you, I fell in love with the person you could be. I remember the day you responded to me for the first time.

I asked, “What was your favorite color?” To which you replied after a while, “I don’t have one.” I jumped up and grabbed your hand and dragged you through the playing fields. I showed you the grass, you said no. I showed you the dandelions, you said no. I showed you the clouds and the bright blue sky, you wrinkled your nose in disgust. I dragged you once again into the woods towards the creek, sure enough, I was going to find you a color to make you happy.

The turnips were too much and the lavenders were not enough. The rocks were too plain but the orange butterfly was too out there, I let go of your hand frustrated and distracted in a fit to make you happy, and fell over a root. I hit the brown dirt face first, my eyes began tearing up and I felt my nose leaking. I felt your hands on my face tilt my jaw to look you in the eyes.

You were smiling.

“Red.” You said as your thumb smeared my blood and dirt across my face; your eyes glimmering with delight. “Red is my favorite color.” You said with a grin.

I should’ve seen the look in those dark eyes when I had the chance but I don’t regret it.

As I lie here choking on air and my blood as you smile. I don’t regret a thing because I put that smile there and even if you didn’t love me...
