To be honest, she never signed up for this crazy situation, but to earn the right to be considered the best thief in the city, she must sail to the island, where she'll have to face a dangerous opponent and prove she can overcome the dangers ahead. Today? It’s very exaggerated. “Ah! Oooh! It’s going to be in my nightmares!” the masked thief exclaimed to herself as she fled from Roo, too frightened to bother hiding her voice.

The poor street performer feels that her jacket doesn't warm her enough in the very cold weather, so she makes her way to Ava, who seems magically warm, and hugs her near the frozen lake. She knows that touching her might get her punched in the face again, but it's better than having a cold day with no breaks.
“Oh, so very cold that I would hug a polar bear,” Jack said, still holding her tightly, as her body shook in the cool breeze. Brrr. She's so distracted by her warmth that she suddenly realizes she has her shoulder wrapped in a coat, almost resembling a cape. “Yeah, it doesn’t feel as cold as much,” she joked. “Honestly, you just unfreeze the frozen heart.” Afterwards, she let her go.

One of the few things that were a positive to being a walking heater was that when the weather got cold, she was of a greater help to people than she was in the summer. That being said, it still startled her when someone moves up to be next to her and the temperature spikes almost immediately.
"What- Oh! Are you cold?" Obviously, but it would still make Ava feel better to ask. After a moment, she does shrug off her coat to drape over the other's shoulders. "That should be better."

She is grabbing the jacket she could use for the winter adventure with one she calls bonding, who has horns and is shorter than her. “Oh, it would be great if you knew how to build them too, achieving unlimited resources without relying on them and finding it richly satisfying, despite their high cost.” It’s unclear how long she could think, but it’s better to assume she never restricts herself to being a loner. It's just better since the outside is full of wintertime, with no likely end in sight. Next time she and Ava go out, remember to build up the energy of the heater.
“Okkie dokie.” With a confident smile and a thumbs up, she tries to hide her secret fear of getting punched in the stomach again if she doesn’t know where she’s going. She made her way to the greenhouse. “It should be; the whole point of spices is to enhance the greatness that comes with the food!” She stomped her way down the snowy path, hearing the crunching sounds.
Even when she decided to go to the store, her mind reminded her not to blame herself. Ava asked if she didn't want to go to the store yet, since she's likely a quiet person and not very talkative, but not a scared lady, as far as she's noticed. Despite being an optimistic lady, she shook her head to put aside her concerns about the outcome. Ava embodies strength and power, making her a guardian of sorts for the future owner of a small restaurant. As she walks to the door, she feels the cool air and hopes it's warm as she looks.
“Usually, they work on the garden houses and underground, but it’s all about experiences that will thrill your mind!” She thought she was right about it… until she noticed the snow piling up on the road and started looking for people out there, but they were busy living in warm places, which made her clear her throat and look at her face. “So, garden it is.”

The only way for her to have high expectations, regardless of her street experience, is to interact with adults like she does with other teens and kids, but it's too much to consider the possibilities of her being unlike any teenager who can act almost like an adult, hang out with friends without bad habits, and protect Zaun like her best friend would, just in case he leaves to pursue a normal life. She couldn't tell if it would be too late to prepare herself for his departure, no matter how hard she tried to be a cheerful loner without worries, and she'd be left all alone.
One good look at him put things into perspective, making her realize that their friendship was more important than any choices she thought she could make, and it brought her relief and a smile afterwards. She never doubts he will end this friendship as long as she keeps her hidden troubles to herself, as it will be consequential for both of them. “Yeah, dramas, who would need ’em? Operas do, but us? Nah.” She joked, wincing again when the medicine she hates touched her wounds. Nonetheless, she lets him do the work since she’s no doctor, only a street performer.
Unknown to her, though, her words were not the only wounds showing. She couldn't think of anything more open than her own slight insecurity. When she saw him frown, she began looking around, catching her attention. “Is there something that I said earlier? Cuz people do that outside all the time…. Occasionally.” She genuinely doesn’t think about what she’s going to say, other than trying to be as proud and tough as she was when she was a street performer who kept it to herself. He’s Ekko, the best inventor who travels through time with his favorite work. He's more than she's capable of.
“Oh, that’s so true,” she joked, “thank you.” Deep down, she believes she's not exceptional, just a powerless, crippled girl like him and the others, but she'll let his words slide, knowing it would be a mistake to reveal her insecurities to him. Although Ekko often talks about them, even when he's alone, she never got a chance to meet them in person.
When he mentioned teamwork, it honestly made her frown, and she looked away, gazing outside at the place she had just escaped from. “This place is full of dark and dangerous areas where we fight for freedom and survival. I mean, I don’t even know how many of them get killed out there while I am getting to my treatment; I should at least try to do something and show some courage. It’s suicidal for anyone to be on my side, so I don’t have,” she raised her arms up quicker than the bullet, “to get help from any folks.”
One specific question would be: why would someone see her going to her best friend’s place, and then go back to his place if she wanted to be alone? Her inner thoughts are conflicted. She leaned in close to his face to hear about the things that would benefit her more than anything she had planned. She whispers “Noice!” after smiling, but her enthusiasm is ruined by the smartest person she has befriended for years, and she slumps back in her chair, looking a bit disappointed. “I know a thing or two about stealthily passing them,” she said with a smirk, waving her only arm, “no biggie.”
She can literally feel her worst wounds healing on her skin, which motivates her to get up and dash through the window. It wouldn't be a good idea anyway, since we might get hurt again. Additionally, with two teenagers in the same room to discuss these upcoming plans, she looks at him again. “Maybe I couldn’t be fooled by their appearances, but as things went on, they all seemed happy to exploit these young kids for their own drug companies, and it’s been driving me nuts. I wanted to go back, free them from their horrific lives, and help them live as normally as we… I mean, fireflies would have wanted so many times they planned for.”
“Wheeew, I didn’t want to make this night the drama show.” She jokingly says this to her best friend, now that she’s Jack, feeling relieved that she doesn’t have to accidentally scare them like she did last time when she visited dressed as a pumpkin ghost on Halloween night; she likely wants to avoid making it a topic of conversation until she’s prepared to discuss it with him. Among all the people she introduced herself to, she was particularly eager to meet his parents, especially on this calm evening, which was a contrast to her previous visit to their house. Unfortunately, she had sworn not to present herself to them, fearing she would be the only one to disrupt his favorite peaceful game. Apart from being Jack, who is silly and excited about her cooking while developing songs, would adults have seen this clown as inferior to other teenagers, unable to talk to those who don’t put their loved ones in danger, and preferring to be more socially acceptable than this shadowy agent, quietly exhaling heavily.
She quickly turns her attention to Ekko when he continues having a conversation about limits; she doesn’t want him to know what she’s thinking right now. “Of course I can do that; I mean, I fought against crooks and gave them nightmares, whoever I wanted to fight. Okay, it sounds dark, but the point of this talk is that I’ve been cleaning up the mess more than any of the “good” people do.” She quietly groaned in pain and didn’t try to scream again. Something Ekko didn’t change from the past is his great concern for his friends’ well- being. It's sweet and encouraging. Out of respect for their long-term relationship, she'll give him a secret gift when she leaves.
“Well yes… but you know it’s… well, a bird’s leaving the birdhouse every now and then. Like a little robin, right?” She nervously tries to explain to her best friend that her solo adventure is not meant to be hostile to his own life, but rather a reminder of her own personal story. It made her feel a bit weird asking him for help, unless it was for quick medical attention, like this nighttime conversation, which was made easier by using sign language in different ways. “You have massive intelligence that's needed for any situation, so I thought I could handle it on my own time, with less science and more travel-like experiences. You know what I mean, right?”
When he places the washcloth on her chin, she winces and gives herself permission to grip his shoulders, finding it too painful to handle. Although she's tough, she doesn't possess time travel abilities like him, making it difficult to cope with the pain.
And just like that, she predicts exactly what will happen, though she won’t like it, and awkwardly looks around. “At least I’m alive,” she says, trying to make excuses, but knowing it won’t work, given his nature. So he frowns afterward. “That may be true, but someone needs to take action instead of just sitting back and allowing this place to descend into a turf war. As the people look up to Hesper, I know it’s my responsibility to help, and Jack Oakley isn’t going to contribute by singing songs.” She said to him, trying to make it easier to convince him. “Besides, they’re the criminals still.”

The main idea is to open a small business by combining different foods to cater to various customers, despite the bittersweet feelings that come with leaving a life of theft behind. Tonight is going to be a very special day, with winter all around, and it gives her an idea to seek help from someone who can heal a secret thief. “Why, of course! Pick up the pieces of food from the market. They do check the ingredients, especially during winter, to ensure no bugs are present. You wouldn’t know if there are any.”
Jack smiled as she retrieved her bag from the junkyard. Luckily, she had recently cleaned them, so they wouldn't look like they came from a dump. Next, she holds her lollipop in her mouth to signal to her potential new friend that she's ready for the winter experience. “Did you know that many people can water their plants, even with a busy schedule? They use a water hose to make it easier. I mean, wow!”

She has no doubt that things don't always go back to the way they were; places like street art, buildings, and cafes can evoke sadness in her, reminding her of the distance she feels, and making her realize she'll never be able to compete with others, as she's no longer a stranger, yet still feels disconnected from them. She's a bit competitive, always trying to make things work out. She realizes that Ekko and his new friends have more advantages than she does, but she still loves them as if they were family. If possible.
The first lesson of being a little more sociable than previous times she thought is not to try to steal any products, even if it would be a quick way to get to his secret birthday party, since it would be a likely disastrous attempt to follow Ekko’s advice to talk with others, even if he doesn’t mind her quirks. Although she's trying to be different, even if only for a second, her eyes have already opened up to the memory of Akali's appearance, just before she tried to follow the scent that came from the same place she always visits. With her shoulders arched up a bit, she's been training for quite a while; her eyes don't look scornful, genuinely trying to understand this street performer. She's walking with a relaxed pose, taking a break today since it's Ekko's birthday, which is also her own break time. Could it be that she's not so different from Jack, who may not be socially aware? Maybe Ekko really wants her to have friends with others, a boy genius.
Other way to say, it’s possible that they’re both friends despite differences.
Jack swiftly looks in a different direction to track down this unique scent, but she couldn't help but turn her attention to one who would become her friend given time. “Oh, I was thinking of another surprise for our smarty pants friend by looking for a new place that will be as good as place I’ve been visited countless times, will have him to eat it without hesitation! See my fingers?” She wiggles her fingers to make it like sparkly, hoping she’s right about it. Another way to view the birthday is to bring in new experiences from other places, marking a fresh start for him. Even with a good sense of smell, she would rethink it, as things could be a trap for them. Being paranoid, yet cautious about it, keeps them away from random trouble.
“I guess it’s possible,” Jack said, “because it would raise popularity if it comes to that!” However, she thought it would be better to have free samples, which wouldn’t rely on people’s desire to know what they are up against someone with potentially a lot of experience with money.
Then, she caught a whiff of something closer than she had anticipated, which made her mouth water in response.
“Oh oh! I got the scent alright! And it’s still damn good as far as I can remember! Mmm! Quick, follow my sprinting path before it closes in tonight!” Excited for the restaurant, a thief dashed away down to where she’s taking Akali. Ever since she was a kid, it's always been the place where she loved to cook. Although it gives her massive stomach pain, the memories are still too great for her to forget, and she hopes this store still exists to this day. It’s what she’s been training for. She grasped her arm and followed the target like a bloodhound trying to track down its source. Although her legs can sprint, they're not as fast as Akali's, since she's no ninja, but she's determined not to lose her way due to her weakness.
How’s that long for her to know about Ekko’s having new friends and his first best friend, and that’s nothing she knows about despite being trained to know every place? It’s come to show that being a mysterious protector made things possible for everyone in this city, very busy in those days. It’s much more than when she was a young girl when she first met Ekko during a time when she was performing her musical arts while secretly stealing the gold from wealthy men. It might be trashy to talk about it, but at least Ekko has his ways that made her befriend him without need to steal his money.
Just how does he even do that? Being nice to a young thief that causes her to ironically skip the heist upon his home? Maybe it’s coming along with the fact she’s not cut out for being one who stalks the night? No, it’s coming along without her being the one who would stoop this low and who would manipulate the boy with gentleness in his heart and mind equal to top scientists. Maybe he’s got to learn how to communicate with others with charms hidden under her dusty clothes, making him the only youngest mentor she can see yet proud of his hidden powers, helping others in return.
Maybe it has come to this point when she’s told him she’s also known to be Lady of the Night Sea, Hesper, knowing it’s going to change since she’s not going to be on his side often and all she's going to do is... celebrate the birthday party for her longtime friend, who coincidentally was reminded by his other friend.
She almost loses focus on what matters most, which is to talk with Akali and hear her thoughts about planning to celebrate both of their best friend's birthday, as she turns around to pay attention, her brow raising. Oh, is that so? Girl, I haven't a doubt that your own ideas are as great as my own.” She may not be able to talk sense, but it's the way she loves herself
“Oh yeah, now memories are coming back to me. You mentioned it just for a second, and yes, it’s so true – I do know the way to places for the birthday.” She smiled, almost like Akali giving the musician some compliments, maybe it’s not some kind of trick Ekko would pull on her, wasting her night work as Hesper. Finally, giving a new conversation a chance to see what she has. “Ah, but there’s sometimes they can be all night, and they deserve to be paid for their hard work, just like a great night pizza recipe. If we both find the right place, we can find a good birthday dinner for our smarty pants, ehh?” She nudged her arm, thanking her for giving her the idea, which combined with Akali’s own idea.
The words coming from Akali almost bring the same papers as Ekko when they are making little pranks, and the friendship? It made her feel so taken aback that she couldn’t think of anything to say, but then she blurted out, 'Huh, you just made a relevant point there. Should I bring a lightbulb on our heads like our tangled friend there?! Whooo!' She let out a loud shout in the night and laughed a few seconds later, knowing it could be a great way to make a new friend, aside from Ekko.
As a skilled cook, she tracks down the best meal, even though he, a navigator, is searching for a special restaurant to celebrate his birthday. She criticizes them, which makes a gagged sound, implying it might not be good enough. “One piece of advice is to find good, clean materials that require minimal repair when it comes to building technology.” She often begins with a joke, but stops when she finds something that feels right to the touch. "Ooh? I can smell something delicious! Follow me!" She ran ahead, dashing along as if she were in a car.

Despite feeling offended by the queen's pompous criticism of her hard work in presenting the food, the young lady, dressed as a star in a black dress and black mask, knows that confronting the queen would jeopardize her plan to steal the queen's treasure, so she takes a risk and joins the dance, hand in hand with other dangers, as the classical violin and piano music begins. By practicing the waltz, which is the opposite of her preferred style, she learned to dance with others, much like jesters impress the royal court, and it's not just about her performance tonight. Not just yet.
The best strategy she could offer was to find suitable people to provide information about the vault, but figuring out how many citizens knew about the queen's secret jewelry collection in this very castle was no trivial task. It won’t be long now because she really needs to get to them. She stepped three times on the floor to avoid drawing attention, then gazed at the royal court, searching for someone who wouldn't know how to reach them, or better yet, distract them from noticing her true intentions.

It's likely the start, so it's better to get to work on the recipe. She smiled with her missing tooth, showing how willing she was to give the friendship a chance. “Oh, it’s going to be plenty of ingredients to fill up! We need the bread, cheese, tomatoes, and warm water!” She writes it down on a piece of paper in case they might get lost and forget what they’re trying to get. “They will be like fresh new,” she said. “Believe me on that.” She uses her mechanical pincer to lift a paper and hand it to her, hoping they don’t burn thanks to her flame powers.

“Oh. That was quick.” She had never expected to choose tomato over chicken so quickly, despite chicken soup being a popular winter favorite among the restaurant's patrons. “Actually, I thought…” Then she remembered how her “competitor” had treated her with medication, and how she aspired to be a person who was comfortable in her own skin, unbothered by appearances, just like herself as a crippled teenager. “Ah, what the heck? Come on, it’s time to bring the exact ingredients for our good people!”

Recently, a teenage girl, secretly a vigilante known as Hesper, arrived in Krat, drawn by the city's reputation for endless tragedies and death, which is also home to Pinocchio. Despite still being in training, she will see the city, leveraging her skilled martial arts. Every night, people are out here for tragic reasons, but it's also for those who will try to keep their hopes alive.
“So, calm yet a bit rough night, huh? I can say that much.” She makes an effort not to appear overexcitable, trying to keep her thoughts in check.
Tumblr media
It appears that the young man is curled up in a field just outside of the city, silently resting among the flowers that have managed to bloom while listening to his own heart steadily thud away in his chest.
For at least right now... he is content.

It would be more logical to try using stitches and consider the wound closed, rather than leaving it open, which can be painful and lead to infections. However, it's a way to take lessons from wounds that reflect determination to keep fighting, no matter how hard it is. Hesper has her own way of persevering without hiding in her hideout and giving in to fear.
Then she looked at an alien, whom she assumed wouldn't express her philosophy, sounding like critics she preferred to avoid, someone like a doctor. Speaking of the doctor, it's not the way she meant to spell it out. However, she did. She shrugged it off and looked directly at her, her long, brushy hair swishing on her back. “He has four eyes, literally,” she said. Ava asked another question, and she sighed, aware that keeping her secrets open in the future would jeopardize them. “The stitches do sound like the fastest way to get it done, so let’s try to put the stitches to the test.” She lifted her leg, revealing the bloody scars, and much of her reluctance was evident. How did the young doctors learn to give stitches? Did watching the video and walking in the streets inspire her interest in the work style?
It's hard to believe that Ava took her time to tend to her wounds, despite the intense interaction she had with someone, their eyes meeting as they tried to understand each other's experiences. She is to blame for almost breaking her own silence, and in a mysterious turn of events, she falls onto a soft floor, allowing herself to be hurt by circumstances during this medical treatment. After all, it's nothing more harmful than being vulnerable to one's determined intentions, which drag two people into complete darkness.
This sparked a bit more discussion about wounds being stitched together, highlighting the education of medical care and acknowledging that it's impossible to know how to work through future pain. At least it's no longer liquid medicine, which is too painful for her to deal with. “Scars serve as reminders of our failures, rather than covering them up. Learn from the mad doctor.” She reluctantly admitted that she had let the short doctor do the job, as she didn't think scars were a big deal unless they became infected.

As she predicted this conversation, her friend doesn't look pleased with her solo mission. "Well, it's kind of complicated..." Rubbing behind her head, it's kind of hard to ask her friend about the assistance whenever he has his own goals while she has her own. "Big things starting to happen recently, so I thought of doing the solo while you have choices to make." She whispers, looking around to see if his parents didn't hear her come into their living room.
Long dreadlocks hair is shown as she didn't try to cut them off as she got used to being messy compared to other teens. One good side is that she's able to see Ekko from a hidden place—one of them anyway, as her purple swollen eye blocks her left sight. "And hopefully, they would like my tomorrow outside dish." She jokingly shrugged; she never ever thought of having this idea of meeting his parents in the future. She doesn't hate them, of course, but life isn't coming up as easy as others thought her Jack alter-ego could say, as dangers always come in every alleyway, so keeping herself from getting to know them is a way to keep him and his parents safe.
While she waits for Ekko to treat her wounds, she looks around this place as if she remembers the time she's close to Ekko when she was a kid who comes in whenever his parents go out to work. It's pretty much refreshing memories. It made her smile just a bit before she noticed he's coming back with... ice cold water with rag. She sighs, preparing for pain, and when he's pressing his rag to her eye... "YEOOW!" She yells out in pain before quickly covering her mouth in the hope none of his parents hear her sudden burst. She winced in pain when wounds were touched with cold liquid. "You might not like this answer, but... it's Chem Baron Tower." She reluctantly told him, knowing he would see her little tale of misadventures.

As the antiseptic medicine wrapped in a towel presses against her scarred leg, the mysterious masked girl feels a stinging sensation, as if millions of leeches with sharp fangs are attacking her, and she desperately wants to scream out loud to express the intense pain she's experiencing, but she fears that if she shows weakness, her tough image, built on the town's guesses, will be shattered, and Ava will see her as a fragile child, crying over minor cuts on her hands. She clutches her blanket and breathes heavily, her head sweating profusely behind her mask as she struggles to maintain her composure, both physically and emotionally. “From that point, you know the feeling of helping… ohh… others come at a price as well. Ow… you've done this before.” She groans in pain. She's willing to admit that she initially thought Ava was secretly more of a doctor than an angry person, unlike her previous assumption.
She can finally sigh in relief, recalling the alien with pyrokinetic powers' words about the stitches needed for her operation, as she gazes at her mask. “You mean it's happening in real life? I thought it worked only for horror movies.”

It's surprising that Ava is willing to help her with her wounds, despite not knowing Hesper well. The thief's main strategy is to remain unseen and avoid forming attachments, so it's best not to try to befriend them. “In that case, you can try to use your hocus-pocus, first lesson of medical practice.” Hesper hesitated, then let her perform the magic, revealing her wounded leg, which had been cut by sharp blades. She quickly covered the blood with bandages, thinking logically that she needed to get it fixed quickly so she could escape the guards, preferably by kicking them in the noses.
“Hm. I can imagine it’s coming up as the first session,” Hesper said sarcastically, knowing it would be as painful as medicine to blazing wounds. “Well, let’s get it over with. I have things to look forward to tomorrow.”
