Chapter 13 Field work for sociology:
Interview a immigrant
For my chapter 13 field work I was given the opportunity to interview an immigrant. Her name is María Ortega. She is From mexico. She has two younger siblings who were born and raised in America. When she was two years old her father was killed so they moved to the United states for better work opportunities and better education opportunities. Sometimes moving can be good and for the better it hasn’t always been easy for María. She says that she loves how her siblings have better opportunities. It hasn't been easy for her. María. Hasn’t been to the doctors since she was about 8 years old. María says that now that she is a senior in high school her guidance counselor has told María to look for colleges to attend but since she is an immigrant they do not qualify for FAFSA.Her mother lives from paycheck to paycheck and María doesn’t have her work permit so she can’t work to even try to pay for college. María doesn’t have the same opportunities that I am blessed to have. María Can’t even get her driver's license. María say’s that she had no idea that being an illegal alien prevents you from doing many things in the United States. Even though she feels stuck, Maria is very happy that she can watch her younger siblings have the chance to live out their dreams of becoming future doctors and lawyers. Even through her dark times María has been accepted into 6 different colleges in Maryland and through the east and west coast. Doing this interview has really opened my eyes and makes me appreciate the little things that I take for granted because in just the blink of an eye my life could change forever.
