With an unknown threat closing in on them and all the things left unsaid between them about to be revealed, Castiel and Dean race against time to find Sam before it's too late.

When Sam goes missing, Dean turns to Cas, his investigative journalist ex-boyfriend for help. Using what little clues they have, Dean and Cas start to piece together Sam's movements and conclusions about yet another missing person, while also starting to reconcile some of the uglier parts of their own past.

I absolutely love break-up and make up fics, and this one is absolutely delicious. It delivers on the angst (it is absolutely gut-wrenching to see how Dean and Cas first fall in love and then fall apart) but it also delivers on the soft tender moments between these two. You're never really doubting how much Dean and Cas care for each other--instead you're cursing at the circumstances forcing them apart (even if those circumstances are sometimes their own stubbornness and communication issues).

In addition to the angst between Dean and Cas, this fic is also crafted around a pretty compelling mystery: where is Ava Wilson, the girl whose disappearance Sam was investigating when he too went missing? Where is Sam? Will Dean and Cas manage to fix their issues in time to find him? For mystery and (resolved) angst, definitely check this fic out! 💖
