promotional strategy:
The promotional strategy for Fight Club focused on its edgy and rebellious themes, appealing to people interested in bold, unconventional stories. The marketing used catchy and provocative taglines like “Mischief. Mayhem. Soap.” to grab attention and hint at the movie’s wild and unpredictable tone. Posters and trailers highlighted the intense characters played by Brad Pitt and Edward Norton, using their star power to draw viewers in. The grungy visuals and dark humor reflected the film’s message about breaking free from consumerism and questioning identity, which helped it connect with younger audiences and become a cult classic.
why fight club:
Fight Club (1999), directed by David Fincher, is a dark and provocative film that critiques consumerism, explores modern masculinity, and delves into identity and rebellion. The story follows an unnamed narrator (Edward Norton) who forms an underground fight club with the enigmatic Tyler Durden (Brad Pitt) as a way to break free from his corporate, materialistic life. As the club grows into the anarchist movement "Project Mayhem," the narrator discovers that Tyler is a manifestation of his own suppressed desires. With its gritty visuals, surreal cinematography, and an edgy soundtrack by The Dust Brothers, the film captures the chaotic, underground atmosphere of its themes. Fight Club is memorable for its shocking twist, iconic quotes like “The things you own end up owning you,” and its lasting cultural impact as a critique of societal norms.

Work in progress - DUE November 4
Inception (2010), directed by Christopher Nolan, is a science-fiction thriller that delves into the concept of dream manipulation and subconscious exploration. The film follows a team of "extractors" who enter people’s dreams to steal or implant ideas. Dom Cobb, the main character played by Leonardo DiCaprio, is a skilled extractor who faces personal challenges and guilt surrounding the loss of his wife, Mal.
The movie’s themes center around reality versus illusion, the layers of the subconscious mind, and the philosophical question of what constitutes reality. The poster uses a recursive design with a figure in the center, creating a sense of depth that mimics the film’s layered dreams within dreams. This visual approach evokes mid-century design with its bold, minimalist shapes and limited color palette, drawing the viewer into a distorted, maze-like visual that symbolizes the movie's complex narrative.
The process of design is inspired by the mid century style poster. Implementing on the spiral/ depts illusion. Small details and pieces from the movie are integrated within the reconstruction of the new logo/poster design, with the addition of the simple logo title.

Trust how strong the pull of your soul is.
Everything in the entire universe is always about love and when it isn’t about love, it is the absence of love.

Sculpture (Black and White) Portrait
- The portrait was first handrawn on another software called Procreate to make all black shaded areas of the drawing clearly and precisely visible. After inserting the drawn image in Adobe Illustrator, the image's background was removed first by using the command image trace to trace and remove the unnecessary objects created in different layers within the file. After using image trace, the command expand was used to select the areas of the image that would be erased or moved. After separating all the elements, a pattern with the number 4 was created. The pattern was made of lines with the number 4 strategically placed and in alignment with each row to allow a cleaner and simpler look. After the pattern was created and saved as a jpeg, it was inserted into the file containing the base elements of the portrait. By using the command compound path, the software could group all individual elements into a singular object to allow the command clipping mask to be used. By having one simple object, Illustrator combined the initial black areas of the portrait with the newly created pattern of the number 4 to mask and replace the black areas. The new pattern now occurred within the desired areas, allowing for an aesthetic finish to the Font Sculpture. Before exporting, the pixel clean command was used to clean the fuzzy edges of the created Font Sculpture. And lastly, the file was exported for print and uploaded to Tumblr.
Sculpture (Color) The lucky 7 loop
- To create the lucky seven loop, the first command used was the stroke/fill setting, and the fill was changed to black. Then, an ellipse is created, and the 3d effect is applied to allow a ring shape to occur. After working on the 3d view and adjusting the rotation, offset, and perspective, a ring shape with 3d formatting is created. Furthermore, the text pattern was created using the number 7 and pasted in multiple rows. Each row was grouped and lined up with the vertical distribution center command. The colour of the text was then changed to a darker shade of violet. By dragging the newly created text (pattern) into the symbol panel, a symbol was created. By opening the appearance panel, a selection to fill was made to modify the ring and add the new pattern. The new pattern was inserted and scaled using map art to match the created 3d shape. After applying the pattern, the expand command was used to release the group from the automatic clipping mask. By removing all clipping masks after repeating the same commands, the text can be selected individually without holding onto the created ring shape and still remain within the desired loop shape. The final step was to create a shadow that would enhance the pattern and give it a cleaner finish. The blend command was used to execute the needed depth by creating a shadow underneath the object by creating a copy of the existing text within its desired shape. Lastly, the file was exported for print and uploaded to Tumblr.
