Friday 7th May
This online lecture was the second half of the guest talk with Connolly Pavey. The main things that we went over were:
- composition
-Rule of three
-180-degree rule
-Breaking the rule
-Graphic weight
-Visual pattern recognition system
-Focal length and lenses
The first thing that I didn't know was a rule that can be used to make a moment more powerful is the 'Graphic weight' rule. This rule means that we use an object to emphasise a moment or to make the audience have a focus point within the scene. The two movies that use the rule of graphic weight well is;
1) 'Back to the future.
2) 'Jurassic park'.
The reason why Jurassic Park is a great example of this is that when the main characters are in the car and the car stops moving we are given a focus point using an action prop of a cup of water. The cup of water is placed on the front of the car so that all the characters are facing the same way when the water suddenly starts to move. Despite, the cup of water being out of place this still works as a way to emphasise the moment that the dinosaurs are free/ let out of the only protection that the characters had. The director wanted to place the cup of water in an unrealistic placement as it makes us focus on the object/ prop more.
Another rule that has been broken to emphasises moments within movies is the rule of three. The rule of three is used to help with composition. The main aim of this rule is t help along with the golden ratio rule. If you used a three-by-three grid this can help you with the placement of dressing props and the characters. If you have a lot of objects and characters in one grid then you might need to move the objects further apart to make the scene more interesting in terms of visualisation. A good example is;
1) 'Joker'.
The way that the movie 'Joker' uses the rule of three is when the Joker is standing on a park's set of steps. They have the Joker of the right of the scene. He takes up to three squares on the right side this leaves six squares with negative space in them. This makes you focus more on the character. This makes the speech have more of an emphasise.

Friday 30th April.
Film Masterclass with guest speaker Connoll Pavey.
What is storytelling? This question could have multiple different answers however the way that I would answer this question is by saying that storytelling is the main key that we all share within the creative industry. The way that a set is coloured, the composition of a camera and the overall lighting all help tell the story of the script.
Pre-production:
In per-production, you go through the whole script and make notes about moments in the script where you have to tell a story through different things such as:1) Props 2) Notes about the location 3) Set dressings 4) lighting to emphasise moods.
Productive and non-productive questions:
The type of questions that you need to ask are questions that will move the production of the story along. What I mean by this is don't ask questions that don't have clear answers as they don't help anyone.
(Bad question)- "How do I colour the set?".(Good question)- "What is the main perspective that you want to get across within this scene?".
This is a screenshot from the online lecture.
This info-graphic of the hero's journey in six iconic movies: Harry Potter and the Philosopher's stone, Star wars, The matrix, Spider-man, the Lion King and The Lord of the Rings trilogy.
The three main stages of the hero's journey:- Initiation -Departure - Return-In each of these three stages, there are several sub-stages/ phases in exact order for the story to outline a truly epic quest.

In this lecture, we had a guest lecture come in and talk to us about CV's, cover letters and social media. These were the three main platforms that we went over. The main mistake that people make on CV's are:1) Having gaps within your CV.2) Lack of evidence 3) Spelling mistakes 4) Lies on CV's 5) Not having it tailoring to the job you are applying to.
The most surprising thing that I didn't consider was that having gaps in your work experience section could cause you to be under-selling yourself or under-selling your work. This could be the difference between an employer wanting you or not.
When someone is reading your CV's they take about 15-20 seconds to skim your work experience or education parts of your CV. The reason why you have to put your most recent work or work experience at the top is so they know what was the last thing you did and at what level you were.
This is a type of guide on how to lay out your CV section by section. This has been really helpful so that I could understand what information is needed. The reason why my CV might not look like this is that I am going into a creative industry therefore, I can have control over how I would format my CV to make it look more interesting.
- 5%- 10% of jobs will be shown within the adverts or some of the advertisement. - 79% of jobs will be because of internal moves and promotions. This is a way to get into larger agency at a lower level.

Today we had a guest lecture have a talk with us about Personal branding. The person that gave this lecture was Tim Ward who is a part of the careers and enterprise team. At the beginning of the lecture, we got asked a few questions and had to compare some answers.
How do you see yourself?:
Hard-working, caring and creative- these were the three answers that I would use to describe myself.
How do people see you?:Kind, Good work ethic and creativity- these were the three words that I was given by a peer about how they see me. These are the type of questions that we got asked at the start of the lecture. These got me thinking about how there is a difference between how people see me and how I see myself. The final question that we got asked was:'What is personal branding?'.The dictionary meaning of 'personal branding is- "It can be considered as a type of relationship with you and the impression that you have on people". However, the definition that I have on 'personal branding' is- "The type of impression that you leave on people after your interaction with them".
The thing that I learnt in this online lecture was-7% of what you actually say.38% is the type of tone you have.55% is the physical impacts that you have on people.100% of people will know how they feel after meeting you for the first time. This is the percentage of what you do and how much it affects your interview. This online lecture was useful and it helped me understand the way you view yourself isn't always the way that other people see you.

Saturday 3rd April
I have chosen to strengthen my skill at speaking in front of people whether that be online or in person. When I was doing my presentation for one of my courses at University I was feeling anxious and that I didn't get clear points of my presentation across to my peers. Therefore, I have chosen to try and do a Link-In Learning course about:
Presenting with confidently and effectively. The few main points this goes over is that this skill is something that everyone needs.
-You need to get to the points directly so that you don't waste time.
-The presentation needs to be less not more. This means that they will ask you questions about what they want. This could make you more memorable.
-Finally, make sure that you talk about what they want and what they want to hear.
I found this to be useful because I now understand that I was talking too much about the details of the presentation. The thing that I should do is make the point first then go into the details later on.

Week 9: Friday 2nd April.
This week we are off university and I wanted to look at some presentation designs and do a LinkedIn Learning video about 'Presentation designs'. The video first went over the different types of presentations or reasons why you might need to use a presentation.
The next thing that we went over was the three main software that is still used today and why they are useful. Those software being:
-Google slides
-PowerPoint
-Keynote
The main software that I use is Google slide.
The final thing that we went over was the colour scheme. The most interesting thing that I found out was that you should always use two base colours. These colours will be the two that must go with everything as you will see them more. After those two colours have been chosen you must pick 2-4 different tones of that colour. These colours should be different tones and hues of the two main colours. This will add to the overall look of the presentation because it shows repetitiveness.

This week we had a chance to go to a drop-in session and ask any questions to the module leader. I was going to attend this lecture however I sent out a question on the group chat asking the same question that I would have asked Adalina (the module leader). The question was; "What do we have to hand in overall for this module?"
I had a reply that we have to hand in
a Weekly blog (URL code)
A digital portfolio (using In design or similar software). While getting these replies I also wanted to double-check against this by going over the module brief.
This was really helpful for me because it gave me a way to refuse myself and the task that I had to complete in order to make a new schedule that worked alongside my schedule for another model that is running at the same time.

Week 5:Friday 5th March
This week we had a guest speaker come in and ask us the question:Why/ how to do a work placement? This question made me think about all the relevant work experiences that I have had. Then I asked myself what did I get out of these experiences. -Knowledge.-Added to my portfolio -Gave me a connection and helped me meet people with similar interests. -etc.
Before, the lecture we were asked to watch a video named 'Why do a work placement online Learning unit'. This learning unit used a video to explain a concept to the viewers. The message of the video was that there will always be a way to improve. This was relevant because it meant by taking a work placement it increasing your chances with employers and it adds to your portfolio. I believed the linked in learning video to be useful however it went over many facts that I already knew. For example, having work experience could help you gain more experience. The experience aspect of work experience helps you learn the ropes and it also gives you a first-hand look into the chosen industry. This would help me see what the industry is really like behind the scenes.

This week we had to present our SWOT analysis through an online lecture over the software Teams. However, due to an illness, I could not attend. The way that I got over this is by having a few classmates to have an online meeting with me to do the task of presenting my SWOT analysis.
The things that my classmates agreed with all of my strengths and what type of weaknesses that I could improve. While I was on the online meetings they told me about how they had to do another activate. The activate was to split into sub-groups and roll some dice. These dice correspond with images that they had to use in a storyboard. So what I did was roll some dice and do the storyboard activate my self. I choose the numbers that group one had gotten meaning that the objects I had to use were bus, headphones, newspaper, battery and pencil.
The storyboard is about a man travelling to work on a bus and when he is reading his newspaper he feels something hit his leg. When he looks at it he relies on it is a battery. The battery belongs to a mystery box that only he can see. When he places the battery into the mystery box it makes an explosion. This meeting was helpful because it made me be creative and have a chance to just draw. This helps me because I enjoy just drawing. Even though the drawings are really rough it was fun just drawing.

This week we had a visit from a member of the library. The thing that I wanted to learn from this session was a way to document the notes and the ideas that I have for the critical and reflective writing that I do. There are many different ways to document your notes:
1) Mind maps
2) Journal
3) Lists/ bullet points
4) Digital recordings and videos
These methods will help me understand the notes and the journey that I go through when coming up with designs for a module or the work I do. I liked it when I was using mind maps methods to draw out ideas and other notes about projects however when I started university I only used the bullet point method which made my visualisations of what the project suffer because I didn't have any visuals or images to look back on. In any further projects I will use the mind map method more to help improve.

In this weekly session, we had to present a detailed and in-depth cross-analysis between social media platforms, websites and visual portfolio. I chose to do my cross-analysis on Tom piper’s visual portfolio and blog that is found on his website. The things that I found out was.The sub-pages loaded quickly and was easy to access. The page had a clean and professional feel to it (the neutral tones, clean-cut images and the template is simple). .The logo can be visual in itself. .The typography is easy to read. .Links to other social media platforms..Make the blog engaging so that it has an audience engagement aspect. Despite, these things being simple these are the main aspects of the blogs, visual portfolio and websites that make them eye-catching and on a different level. link to Tom piper’s visual portfolio:https://www.tompiperdesign.co.uk/blog/
