Sensory Knowledge We don’t acquire knowledge just through our skin but through our whole body. From our sight, sound, taste, and smell (Howes 2005, P.28). Sensory knowledge helps us connect to the earth and the environment around us, the earth wants us to interact with it. We use sensory knowledge to creatively communicate with society. Sensorium 360 was a contemporary art exhibition featured at Singapore Art Museum in 2014. The exhibition was interactive to visitors through touch, audio, the smell of food and perfume, live performance, and live capture. The visitors are invited to interacting with the artworks, becoming part of it of the exhibition themselves. Over determination We spend too much time overanalysing and overthink over the most trivial things. Even over unnecessary things to the point of obsessive. We repress certain behaviours thatmanifest themselves as dream and nightmares in our subconscious. (Mansfield,  2000, P. 29 -30) Our dreams, slips of the tongue and irrational habits come from repressed material venting itself. (Mansfield, 2000, P. 30) Our behaviour and action are not from one intent but from many. Shopping Vale do Aco ran an advert called Don’t wait until cancer shows it face. The advert is meant to prompt women to not overthink if they have cancer and get checked before it’s too late. Reference: Mansfield, N 2000, “Freud and the split subject’, in Subjectivity: theories of the self from Freud to Haraway, New York University Press, New York, pp. 25 – 37. Unconscious In Freud’s, “Interpretations of dreams” (1904), our dreams are only one part of our consciousness that is shrouded in responsiveness. It is one that is completely different and the opposite of the conscious mind.(Mansfield, 2000 P.28)   We dream about things we familiar with and have a memory of since in a dream our mind goes between the conscious and unconscious mind. Salvador Dali painting Persistence of a Memory depicts pocket watches melting. This painting is based on creating artworks from your dreams and subconscious. The watches project the idea that we have no concept of time in our dreams. Subjectivity Subjectivity is created from greater cultural and identity developments that cannot be explained by philosophy alone.(Barker, 2012 P. 224) The subject is influenced by the causes and effects from the outside world, either cultural, economic, educational, social and environmental, as well as it’s unconscious. (Bennet 2016, P. 151) Artist will use subjectivity to make their own unique interpretation of an artwork, drawing on their own experiences and influences. Artist will use subjectivity to express their own views and emotion in their work. A Lego advert asked the audience “guess who”, allows them to use their subjectivity to guess the characters in the advert. Creative Influence The environment and social interaction of others can influence an artist creativity.(Hemlin and Allwood and Martin, 2004, P. 2) Artist research and explore different media/ mediums to discover creative influences in their creative field. These influences assist the artist in creating their own creative identity, style, and techniques to create their own work. DDB created adverts for Whirlpool KitchenAid that are influenced by different art movements, with the tagline cooking is an art. The creative influence draws attention to the product they’re selling and the art movements used to advertise them. Essentialism Essentialism is the core or soul that we all possess inside ourselves that is widespread and unending. A part of this core can be called identity. (Barker, 2012, P.221) Our core or soul cannot be changed or affected by outside influences,  part of our identity can change but our core is its own entity.   Timothy Goodman work “Memories of a girl” are typography works that tell stories of girls he dated and love, showing a part of himself that other people would keep private. Goodman decides to show this part of his soul, an artwork that also a part of his identity. References: Barker, C 2007, ‘Issues of subjectivity and identity’, in Cultural studies: theory and practice, 3rd edn, Sage Publications, London, pp. 218-223. Authenticity Rousseau implied an individual’s authenticity is reduced by the demand of esteem from people in society that is implied by interrelationship, irregularity, and class. Authenticity is from your inner self and dishonesty is from outside stimuli.(Yacobi, 2012) Authenticity is when an individual that is true and honest to themselves and others, this adds believability to their behaviour and words and are not deceitful. Lauren Hom series “Flour Crowns” shows her love of food. Inspired by “flower crown”, she decides to create her own version of edible “flour crowns”, turning her passion for food into art and showing her true self in her work. Social Identity We are born into a world that already comprises of a social structure of culture and language. Without blending cultures, we would not be the personalities or have the social structures that exist today. (Barker 2012, p.222) Our social identities are continually shifting and developing due to historically factors, gender, cultural background and age, these factors can influence your social identity. This also includes what we have in common, how we fit in and treat people in a social construct. Bosslogic is a digital designer that has many social media connections. This is his social identity as an artist to advertise himself to the world to gain a greater audience. Fractured Identity Our identity changes over time, evolving and changing with different environments and social structures we try to fit into. Individuals may have numerous identities, even conflicting identities. (Barker 2012, 225). As we grow up, our identity will change and develop as we explore, taking in different experiences from the world around us. Susan Kare is a graphic designer that created many of Apple’s icons in the 1980’s. Her icon style changed due to the advance in computer styles and design. Meaning her style evolved as technology changed. Creative Identity Creative Identity comes from a social category and through creating their own identity. Creative Identity comes a social construct, the artist has their own feeling of creative value by communication with people and relating to the social discussion on what creativity is.(Tanggaard and Glaveanu, 2014, P. 13) Every artist will have a different creative identity as they have grown up in different environments, and situations. Taste in influences can be the same but expressed in different medium and disciplines. Creative identity is how the artist sees and express themselves in their work. Chip Kidd is known for designing book covers. His creative identity is created through his catalog of work. Tanggaard L, Glaveanu V P 2014, ‘Creativity, identity, and representation: Towards a socio-cultural theory of creative identity, in New Ideas in Psychology, 34 edn, Aalborg University Denmark, pp. 12 – 21.
