Mountain biking is a sport of riding bicycles off-road, often over rough terrain, using specially designed mountain bikes. Mountain bikes share similarities with other bikes but incorporate features designed to enhance durability and performance in rough terrain. Mountain biking can generally be broken down into multiple categories: cross country, trail riding, all mountain (also referred to as "Enduro"), downhill, freeride and dirt jumping. This sport requires endurance, core strength and balance, bike handling skills, and self-reliance. Advanced riders pursue both steep technical descents and high incline climbs.Mountain bikers ride on off-road trails such as singletrack, back-country roads, wider bike park trails, fire roads, and some advanced trails are designed with jumps, berms, and drop-off to add excitement to the trail.Because riders are often far from civilization, there is a strong ethic of self-reliance in the sport. Riders learn to repair broken bikes and flat tires to avoid being stranded. Many riders carry a backpack, including water, food, tools for trailside repairs, and a first aid kit in case of injury. Jai Hindley of Australia won the first mountain stage of the Tour de France after the cruel climb of the Col de Marie Blanque saw Adam Yates’s race leadership evaporate and then exposed the frailties of his UAE Emirates teammate, the former Tour champion, Tadej Pogacar. As Hindley, of Bora-Hansgrohe, rode alone over the climb and sped down into Laruns, to win the stage and take the maillot jaune of overall race leadership, the defending champion, Jonas Vingegaard, left Pogacar in his wake, 1km from the summit. It may yet prove a definitive moment in this year’s race. Hindley, riding his first Tour, seemed stunned by his solo success. “I didn’t really expect this when I rolled about of bed this morning,” the 27-year-old said. “I’ve been watching the Tour since I was six and never thought I’d find myself in the yellow jersey.”
Hindley was one of a group of 17 riders that formed over the top of this year’s first major ascent, the “beyond category” Col de Soudet, before descending through the Pyrenean mist to the foot of the next climb, the Col d’Ichère.

Full POV (point of view) run of the Megavalanche 2022. Megavalanche (nicknamed "Mega") is a enduro mountain bike race held annually at the Alpe d'Huez ski resort in the French Alps since 1995. The Alps event, being the more widely publicized and famous among downhill cycling enthusiasts, starts on the glaciated summit of Pic Blanc in Huez and descends to the valley bottom at Allemond, for a total of over 2,600 vertical meters (8530 feet) and a 20 km (12 miles) distance. The mass-start race is known for its fast speeds and winding turns over varying terrain, with hundreds of riders descending the mountain at once. Despite the inherent dangers, officials state that injuries are modest, and that the race is less dangerous than it may seem to outsiders.
The course is designed to slow the riders down around tight curves and the width of the glacier at the race's start line allows the riders to spread out.

Mondraker is celebrating 20 years since its inception. Two decades of passion, of hard work, of desire. Of innovation, breakthroughs, frustration, determination, resolve and ultimately, pride. Our relentless drive comes from an unquenchable thirst to design the best handling mountain bikes possible; to develop bikes without compromise; to make bikes that make the difference. Bikes that win.
At the turn of the millennium, Paco Sanchez and Miguel Pina started following their dream path. Miguel, a mountain biker, downhill racer and, back then, working in a major Spanish cycling industry distributor, set about developing a new MTB brand… a brand that would create unique bikes more capable than what was on the market in the early days of the 2000s. A brand that was born from passion: Mondraker.

Valeo launches revolutionary e-bike motor. No more problems with the bike gears. The new e-bike motor from Valeo will be in stores this season. For the first time, circuit and motor are integrated in one housing.
In 2020, the French car supplier Valeo announced that they wanted to revolutionize the e-bike motor. So far, the engine and circuit have been separate components, even if they are controlled in combination by some suppliers. Valeo, on the other hand, integrates the gearbox and engine in a single body. Both can be optimally coordinated with each other. Above all, however, the high torque of the engine only acts on components that have been designed to withstand these forces.
A 7-speed gearbox was created together with Effigear. A gear change takes less than a tenth of a second. The rear wheel is driven by a maintenance-free carbon belt drive. The electric motor works with 78 volts and delivers a torque of 130 Nm.
The automatic transmission works directly with the pedals. Motor support and gear selection are automatically adapted to the pedaling power. Technically, it should be easily possible in the future to intervene manually in the gear selection. Shifting errors that can destroy conventional derailleur gears are not possible with this system. The advantage of the solution is that the gearbox is perfectly matched to the engine.
Above all, the power development in the range of 130 Nm has a destructive effect on the bicycle gear system in the event of shifting errors. A hub gear usually does not tolerate this force at all. Due to the integration in the housing, the circuit can neither be misaligned nor paralyzed by dirt.
The system replaces several wearing components of the wheel at the same time. It also greatly reduces the amount of wiring required. The system is capable of learning and should be able to adapt to the style of the cyclist. It also has an immobilizer and a pushing aid.
130 Nm is a very decent torque. For comparison: The Performance Line CX from Bosch achieves 85 Nm. It is currently still unclear how the Valeo motor "feels" - manufacturers such as Bosch, Brose and Shimano attach great importance to maintaining a cycling experience despite the motor power. Up until now, the main problem with an integrated solution for motor and transmission has been the waste heat. 130 Nm – especially at low speeds – always lead to a great deal of heat being generated, which the housing must be able to absorb without active cooling. In the EU, the power will be 250 W, and the speed will be capped at 25 km/h. In fact, the engine will be able to do far more.
With 130 Newton meters, Valeo starts at the top. In this way, the superlative also generates the desired attention. For a bike feeling, however, this is a bit too strong. In addition to the applications mentioned for today's pedelecs, it would also be an ideal motor for somewhat heavy vehicles.
Changes in the law already allow an e-bike to transport a passenger. A real two-person bike also needs a powerful drive. The Valeo engine is said to effortlessly take a cargo bike with a total weight of 150 kilograms up inclines of 14 percent.
Series production is scheduled to begin in spring 2022. Like Bosch and Brose, Valeo will not build its own bikes. At the start, 14 companies want to offer the new drive. The price should be particularly interesting. In any case, if the combined system is cheaper than the previous combinations, it should be a success because of its "worry-free" promise.

José Meiffret (Boulouris, France, 1913-1983) was a cyclist who set a world speed record by bicycle on July 16, 1962 in Freiburg, Germany: 204,73 km/h. The record, of course, was achieved by the slipstream of a motorized vehicle; in this case a Mercedes Benz 300 SL. José rolled on a bicycle that weighed 20 kg, moving a 130-tooth chainring/crankset and on wooden wheels to resist overheating.

Every trail has its own personality. The dirt, the grades, the features and flow - it’s never exactly the same. Some trails are rugged and raw, true to the landscapes and terrain they traverse. Others are lovingly crafted by human hands, carved into the earth for the specific purpose of being fun to ride. It’s this ever-changing experience and access to something wild that makes riding a trail bike so exhilarating. That thrill, that promise of nailing a new line - or riding an old familiar one you know by heart, but with a little more speed and style - is what drove the design of the all-new Trance X. Float through rock gardens, hit jumps, find the faster line. With quick-handling 27.5 wheels and adjustable frame geometry, the Trance X is a party on wheels and is perfectly-suited for riders like Matthew Sterling of the Giant Factory Off-Road Team. Here are his favorite things about the new bike.
27.5-inch wheels balance agility and control, giving you the ability to roll over rugged terrain, flick the bike at speed, change lines, and explode out of corners. Updated Maestro rear suspension features a trunnion mount shock with a longer stroke and smoother feel. With 145mm of rear travel (and 160mm up front), it has an Advanced Forged Composite upper rocker arm for increased stiffness and strength plus lower overall frame weight.

The bike – completely reinvented: The Porsche eBike Sport conveys the unmistakable Porsche driving feeling on 2 wheels. The frame designed by Studio F. A. Porsche was perfectly balanced by the cooperation partner ROTWILD. This not only resulted in a high quality design object, but also an ideal companion for long and short everyday routes. The powerful SHIMANO EP8 motor with 85Nm and up to 15,5mph motor support allows for maximum acceleration with minimum pedalling resistance. Thanks to the brake and gear cable guiding integrated in the handlebars, the cockpit is reduced so that you always have the important stuff in view: The road. The Shimano colour display shows the speed, distance and battery range in real time. The LED bicycle lights elegantly embedded in the seat post and handlebars also provide optimal visibility at night. The e-bike experience is completed by perfectly coordinated technical components: Upside-down suspension fork from MAGURA and FOX dampers absorb every unpleasant impact.
The smooth-running Continental Speed King tyres also make everyday routes into real adventures - just like you're used to with a real Porsche.
