[ PRIVATE ]
Presley doesn’t let go. She holds on because if nothing else, at some point, Derrick’s going to stop and she intends to be there when he does. And he does. Thankfully quickly and within a second, she’s back firmly planted on her feet again, seeing a level of emotion and upset in Derrick’s eyes that she hasn’t seen maybe since the fight at the compound. For a second it stuns her, and she stands there, a little wide eyed and open mouthed but she wills herself to shake it away, to be earnest and calm when she answers him. “Because he needs to -- the pack needs to see we aren’t like him. And because if he knows it made you furious, he’ll have felt like he won something over us. And he didn’t. All he showed me in that moment was that he’s a child. A gross, power tripping child. He doesn’t ... deserve you coming to meet him at that level.”
[ PRIVATE ]
“How could I not be furious? How could I not want to step down to his level, after everything he’s done?” This time, there’s a significant amount of emotion in his voice, but it isn’t anger. Its defeat. Like he won but hadn’t. Like he’d moved three steps in the right direction and four steps back. While Presley’s holding his wrist, he can’t move, he won’t. For a split second his eyes get glossy, like he’s about to cry -- he wants to, more than anything he wishes he could break down. Maybe in front of Presley he can, Presley who he loves as she were his own daughter, who he would protect with his own life. So instead of pulling away and sprinting towards the barn, he pulls her into a hug, where he holds her with his hands on her back, tightly against his chest. He ends up balling his hands into fists, with Presley’s jacket between his fingers, gripping them like a lifeline, and his voice breaks. “I’m sorry, Pres. I’m really sorry”.

[ PRIVATE ]
Presley’s never seen a reaction in Derrick like this one. Something shifts, on his face, in his eyes, in his posture. It almost takes her back but then he takes off. And she’s frozen. Her feet right where she’d planted them. And Derrick rips the door off the hinges and that gets her to move. Presley runs, as fast as her infinitely smaller leg will carry her. “Derrick -- Derrick stop!” She gets to him at some point in the grass and only reaches for his wrist as his arm swings back, just enough to get her hand around it. But he’s moving so fast he might very well take her with him. “Derrick, don’t.”
[ PRIVATE ]
Even when Presley catches up to him, even when he hears her calling for his name, he keeps going, and when she grabs his wrist he drags her a couple of meters on the grass. Until he stops, when he realizes he’s pulling weight, who he’s dragging. It doesn’t dissipate his fury, not even when he turns around to look at her, to help her off the ground by crouching down and grabbing her under her arms. One tug and she’s back on her feet, and Derrick still wants to kill Elias. “He had no right. He thinks of himself as the leader this pack needs but he steals a war veteran’s pain killers, whips his dick out, and then pisses on them? Give me one reason why I shouldn’t go there, Presley. Why I shouldn’t find him hauled up in the barn and drag his face through the dirt so hard he loses his teeth? I’m going to kill him”.

Well I will anyway. They’re good beds, trust me you want to try it. And the steak. And the potatoes. He uh -- you know. He was being Elias. I don’t know. I should have probably... not stepped to him so soon. But I told him to give me my painkillers back and next thing I knew he was just.. unzipping his pants. It was -- Elias. My pills are wrecked but hopefully he .. got that out of his system or whatever.
[ PRIVATE ]
As soon as the words leave her mouth there is undeniable fury in Derrick’s eyes. His hands ball into fists at his sides, and he grits his teeth so tightly his jaw aches. Its like the drop that spills the cup, and everything Derrick’s been keeping inside: the anger, the resentment, the feeling in his throat that makes him want to scream but he holds down knowing her can’t, it overwhelms him. He sees red. Red and black and the image of his fists on Elias’ face. “Stay here...” He’s so monotone it leaves his lips ominously and in four quick strides he’s crossing the door of the den and RIPPING it off it’s hinges. He doesn’t shift. He’d get there faster. But if he shifts he might kill him. He doesn’t know what’s stopping him.

I ate a steak. A really big one. It was amazing. And they let me have it with french fries and mashed potatoes. And then -- oh. You were on sentry weren’t you. Shoot. I’m being a jerk. I’ll ask Miss Aemilia if you can take a turn in the big beds.
You don’t need to do that, Pres. I’m happy you all had fun, that’s all that matters to me. Wanna give me an update? What happened with Elias?

Now that we’ve started to reel things back to normalcy, I’d like to extend my hand to any witch who needs assistance, be it about the rebuilding of the wards, training, practicing magic -- anything we can help with, let us know.

How was your night in the manor, kid? Heard the room service was great.
Maybe I’m being optimistic but it feels like there’s at least.. some sort of normal settling back into the air. Sentry was quiet. The Den’s quiet. It’s nice.

I’ve never trusted Elias, but you already knew that. Even behind smiles, his intentions always seemed questionable. I’m not saying I told you so, but I will say that his recent actions don’t all surprise me. Hoarding rock salt for a potential assassination attempt is extreme, but of everyone in this pack, he would be the one to attempt it. Especially with how furious he seems right now. I’ll keep an eye out.
[ PRIVATE ]
No, its stupid and reckless. I don’t know what he’s planning on accomplishing with the salt without jeopardizing all the witches in the manor but I don’t want to see the day we find out. I’m not happy with Brigid, Amaya. But this isn’t the way to do it. Right now, we need to focus on Victoria taking her place, and from what I hear, there’s a plan in motion for that already.

What is it?
[ PRIVATE ]
I’m concerned about Elias, Kyle, Jordan, and Ronan’s reaction to what happened last night, I’m afraid that they’ll try to retaliate in some way, towards the pack, towards Victoria, or Brigid. I need you to help me keep an eye open. Eyes and ears. If i’ve learned anything is that not everyone’s being honest and telling me what’s going on. Victoria told me Elias is keeping a stash of Himalayan rock salt hidden somewhere and was planning on using it to murder Brigid. I’m not entirely convinced he won’t use it with Victoria either.

A star partnership. Not a poor choice by any means. Congratulations to the both of you.
I’m glad you approve, Miss Black.

Of course, this is just the beginning of another long road ahead. But the pack will be in goods hands with the two of you leading it. And I’m glad to be a part of that journey, despite… everything.
[ PRIVATE ]
On a more serious note, there’s something we should talk about, if you have a minute. I’m gonna need your help.

A wise choice. Presley will be a great Beta. She carries good morals, like you do. You’re right, unity is important, and having an Alpha and Beta both on the same page is key.
Glad you agree, Ames. If we’re gonna make any changes around here we gotta start with this.

I’ve slept on it, weighted my options regarding who will be my beta, your beta, and after careful deliberation I’ve decided to choose Presley as my second in command. This absolutely means you will listen to her just as you would to me, and know that we both have the pack’s best interest at heart. In times like this, unity is important, and we all need people who will bring us together instead of force us apart. We do not need a pack divided. We need to work together, with the witches, and with each other.

You think she can handle it? Elias has salt crystals. A lot of them. He had planned to use them to murder my mother.
[ PRIVATE ]
No. I know she can.
Its come to light recently that he’s been serious about murdering Brigid. I’ll find the crystals. But if he knows we know about this I’m afraid he’ll do something rash. He’s already very unhappy with the results. I think he was expecting a win tonight.
