Three butch friends of mine finishing the basement of my first house around 1996. They worked for beer, and not even anything fancy.

Here’s my take on the whole audio books vs. reading:
Oral tradition of storytelling predates written ones by millennias, and honestly, which one you like is just a personal preference.
The actual difference is
when listening, you have no idea how to write characters’ names
when reading, you have no idea how to pronounce characters’ names
hope this helps!

After some housing instability that meant I couldn't get regular dental care for a few years, I got health insurance and went in to the dentist. They do some scans and X-rays, and leave me to wait until they come back. The dental hygienist brought the X-ray in to leave for the dentist. As she put it up, she took a second to look at it, then turned towards me and asked with zero affect "So, do you *want* to keep your teeth?". Confused and distressed, I answered "If at all possible? Yes?". She then went "Hm." and walked out of the office.
The complete lack of a reaction combined with the concerning question (not do you want to keep some specific teeth, just in general do I want teeth) was an absolute wild experience.
Doctor: What do you see in this X-ray?
Students: *collective gasp*
Doctor: Please don’t do that in front of patients.
#it ended up being nothing#so i got to keep my teeth#but like. mam#you cant just ask if i want to keep my teeth then walk out
