KingKiller Chronicle Grassroots Con Panel Ideas
1. Ethical philosophy debate on Kvothe's dealings with the "false Edema Ruh", roleplaying different characters/factions
2. Denna's patron debate (is he Cinder? Bredon? Cinder and Bredon? None of the above? Discuss!)
3. The stories within the stories and how the main characters embody these stories (most notably, Jax and the moon vs Kvothe and Denna)
4. Character alignments
5. Campfire story-telling
6. Eolian style music competition where you can earn your talent pipes (spoiler, everyone who participates wins their pipes. But it would be fun to roleplay a young musician out to make a name for themselves in Temerent. The point is to have fun and share art, not be elitist about musical talent)
7.Fan-written renditions of the varying songs, performed live of course (or video if necessary)
8. Fanfic writing
9. Shipping discussions (8 and 9 can be combined potentially)
10. Seven words activity of some sort (credit to Tales from the Waystone podcast, Will and Phoenix are the best!)
11. An activity similar to IaFC's "Faceless Man" activity where 7 people are given the roles of being Chandrian members and have to kill people, but when they kill, their sign is around and you have to kill without anyone noticing your sign. Not sure the logistics but I like the idea!
12. Interesting fact activity, each time you meet someone at the con you two have to exchange interesting facts and if the other person doesn't find your fact interesting/already knows it, then you don't get a sticker, or something like this)
13. Amyr vs Chandrian discussion/ debate--which characters are Amyr members? Which characters are Chandrian?
14. PUPPET-- discuss
15. The difference between being nude and being naked discussion
16. The four plate door theories
17. unpacking the rhymes/songs
18. Pin the tail on the jackass?
19. THE DENNA DEFENSE SQUAD
I'll add more as I think of them but omg someone please organize a fan-run KKC con this needs to exist

OMG first impressions
I just had a revelation, re-reading chapter 223 in “The Name of the Wind” by Patrick Rothfuss. Let’s recap on Denna’s first impression of Kvothe.
That left the other passenger, Denna. We didn’t speak until the first day’s ride was nearly done. I was riding with one of the mercenaries, absently peeling the bark from a willow switch. While my fingers worked, I studied the side of her face, admiring the line of her jaw, the curve of her neck into her shoulder. I wondered why she was traveling alone, and where she was going. In the middle of my musing she turned to look in my direction and caught me staring at her.
“Penny for your thoughts?” she asked, brushing an errant strand of hair.
“I was wondering what you’re doing here,” I said half-honestly.
Smiling, she held my eyes. “Liar.”
I used an old stage trick to keep myself from blushing, gave my best unconcerned shrug, and looked down at the willow wand I was peeling. After a few minutes, I heard her return to her conversation with Reta. I found myself strangely disappointed.
This conversation sets up the ENTIRE groundwork for the Denna/Kvothe dynamic. She makes herself vulnerable, he stacks up his walls and uses his Ruh skills to play the ever-aloof debonair. He could have, I don’t know, just let himself blush? He could have persisted with the conversation, pressing his question? He could have done a million other things that would have yielded a gazillion new results, but if this is Denna’s first impression of this boy, she’s hooked *because* he rejects her. But he sees it as her rejecting him, “she went back to her conversation and I was disappointed.”
Just some food for thought, I was in the middle of something but I wanted to jot this down real quickly!

I see him more as Aladdin. Aladdin is what I watch when I’m in the mood for KKC, but the happy version. Sure, Denna isn’t a princess but you get the idea.
Kvothe is just Batman but as a bard

100% this. Denna haters need to consider these facts....if we read the story from Denna’s perspective, Kvothe would come off as an arrogant, flighty asshole. Oh wait...but honestly, that’s what makes them such a compelling/frustrating/tragic “notacouple”, they are both flighty assholes, but Kvothe is moreso one. As this post points out, Denna HAS and does try to initiate something more tangible, and is just as much of a confused, insecure teenager as Kvothe.
Kvothe Rejects Denna
Have people realized that Kvothe rejects Denna? Whenever she puts herself out there, he tells her no.
Here are some examples:
When the first meet, she invites him to come with her. He declines, leaving her for the University. Obviously, he doesn’t ask her to come with him because he has nothing (he thinks) to offer her.
When he sees her the second time, he pretends he doesn’t remember her name. She follows his lead and pretends the same.
She tells him to steal her. They spend the night talking and he makes no romantic move towards her. He doesn’t kiss her, they don’t make future plans. They never make future plans.
She asks him to lunch, she seems him with another woman (Fela) instead.
When she is high, she asks him to bathe with her and he (rightfully) rejects her. (Side not here, he absolutely did the right thing as she was not in her right mind but she probably remembers this encounter and easily could be like, even when I’m throwing myself at him, he rejects me.)
She buys him a lute that is worth a small fortune when she has previously stated she has been in poverty and Kvothe doesn’t make a move.
Denna also tells Kvothe he doesn’t push her, after telling him he can put his arm around her, which can easily be interpreted as her wanting him to make a more forward move.
She tells him, “yes,” to his unasked question, ready for it to be anything. And he simply asks her to move over a bit.
And yes, she is a con artist or a courtesan, so she needs to spend time with other men. But instead of trying to make a relationship work, Kvothe does nothing to move their relationship in a romantic direction. He is too cautious.
His motivations make sense of course, he is worried about losing her, but their relationship is stuck from developing to a romantic relationship or even a deeper friendship because Kvothe does not communicate his feelings to Denna and rejects the ones she shares with him.
So the lack of romantic development in their relationship is because of Kvothe. It is not Denna leading Kvothe on, Kvothe is not taking the opportunities she gives him.

Conversation
Elodin, first day of class: Okay, which Hogwarts house is everyone in? And don't lie, I'll know. You, go.
Fela: I'm a Ravenclaw.
Kvothe: This is stupid.
Elodin: You're a Slytherin, shut up.

I love this story for many reasons, like most of us, I’m guessing. I mostly like it because it is a tragedy, and reflects the “human heart in conflict with itself.” Denna and Kvothe’s romance fascinates me to no end, I will never understand the haters. These traumatized teenagers break my heart into a tiny million pieces. Beyond that, it is poetic, whimsical, charming. It is meta, Rothfuss is both telling us stories and telling us *how* he’s telling us his story, and commenting on the tropes that have made up other stories of yonder. It is “low fantasy” and has a wonderful system of magic. To me, it reads like an epic game of DnD with proper use of alignments.
What is it about Name of the Wind that has made it so special to its fans?
Share what makes you love this series so much, I'm curious to examine our relationships with the story!!!

Gone for Good, a duet
I love this song by the Shins, and I think it more than fits Kvothe and Denna, both as individuals and as a “couple”
Kvothe:
Untie me, I've said no vows The train is getting way too loud I gotta leave here, my girl And get on with my lonely life
Denna: Just leave the ring on the rail For the wheels to nullify
Kvothe:
Until this turn in my head I let you stay and you paid no rent I spent twelve long months on the lam That's enough sitting on the fence For the fear of breaking dams
Denna:
I find a fatal flaw In the logic of love And go out of my head You love a sinking stone That'll never elope
So get used to the lonesome
Kvothe: Girl, you must atone some Don't leave me no phone number there
Denna:
It took me all of a year To put the poison pill to your ear But now I stand on honest ground On honest ground
You wanna fight for this love But, honey, you cannot wrestle a dove So, baby, it's clear
You want to jump and dance But you sat on your hands And lost your only chance
Go back to your hometown Get your feet on the ground And stop fucking around
Kvothe & Denna:
I found a fatal flaw In the logic of love And went out of my head You love a sinking stone That'll never elope
So get used to used to the lonesome Girl, you must atone some Don't leave me your phone number there
