The big three kids and their magic items: hear me out

This turned into a story about that one time Hades enchanted Nicos skull ring with similar powers to the helm of darkness. (TOA cannon, takes place a couple weeks after Apollo left camp for the quest, slight mention of Solangelo).

So Percy has a pen that turns into a sword and had a wrist watch that could turn into a sheild at one point.

Thalia has a mace canister that turns into an electric spear and a bracelet that turn into Aegis the sheild.

It would be pretty cool for Nico to have a magic item like that.

I know he already had a Stygian iron sword but I’m talking about something to help him with his powers. Something kind of like Hades’s helm of darkness that Nico could draw power from instead of having to use his own.

I’m thinking about that skull ring with ruby red eyes that he twists around his finger a lot. He seems to always be wearing it. (I think Bianca gave it to him or maybe Hades I can’t remember wich).

Hades enchants the skull ring as a birthday present for Nico. (He’s trying to be a Good Parent’TM). Except he wants it to be a surprise and it’ll take a few days to enchant it so he takes the ring while Nicos sleeping and he has no idea.

Nico wakes up and immediately feels like something’s not quite right. He’s not sure what it is but somethings off. He goes through his morning routine and gets to breakfast. He talks to Will and tells him how he feels.

That’s when Will says “is it because the skull ring you always wear is missing?” He’d been holding Nicos hand and noticed the ring was gone. Nico is shocked because yes that’s exactly why he feels weird but how?! He never takes the ring off he sleeps with it on!!

So Nico goes back to the Hades cabin and looks all over for it. He tears apart the bed thinking maybe it fell off and got lost in the sheets. He looks in every drawer in his room and bathroom. Rifles through the laundry looking in anything that has pockets.

Nico searches every nook and cranny of the Hades cabin for that ring. After a couple days he gives up on looking for it there. Maybe he left it in Apollo cabin, he spends a lot of time there with Will, Kayla, and Austin. He can’t find it anywhere there either.

At this point he’s asking random people he runs into if they’ve seen the skull ring. Campers start making jokes about it, saying Nico treats the ring like a lost pet. Someone puts up wanted posters with a drawing of the ring and quote “ if you found this ring please return to Nico di Angelo “.

Nico doesn’t even care. Let them make all jokes they want, at least it’s something harmless and kinda funny this time, not like all the jokes they used to make about him being creepy, a scary loner, or an oddball outcast.

Anyway Nico ventures into the underworld to look for the ring in his room in Hades’s palace. He runs into his dad in front of the doors and asks him if he’s seen the ring.

Hades literally has the ring in his hand behind his back, he just got back from Hecates place to finish up the enchantment, but Nicos birthday isn’t until tomorrow and he can’t blow the surprise so he makes the split second descision to reply “no I haven’t seen any rings but I’ll keep an eye out for it, hope you find it”

So Nico continues to his room to look for the ring and Hades sits at a drawing desk writing a note to explain the enchantment of the ring and a small apology for not letting Nico know he was going to take the ring for a few days and wishes his son a happy birthday

Nico can’t find the ring in his room wich means he’ll have to search the whole palace. But he spent most of the day traveling through the labyrinth to get to the passage to the underworld so he’s a little tired.

He texts Will (let’s pretend they have phones) that he’ll be spending a few days in the underworld to search the palace for the ring and to tell Chiron he made it there safely. They say goodnight and Nico goes to sleep.

Hades leaves the note and ring on the nightstand for his son to find when he wakes up.

Nico finds the note written in Ancient Greek and the skull ring and he’s ecstatic to have it back. The note explains the rings powers. It’s basically like Hades’s helm but to a smaller degree.

It can shroud Nico in shadows at his will like he’s practically invisible. The ring has its own power source connected to the underworld so Nico can draw some power from it for shadow-traveling and raising the dead and doesn’t have to use as much of his own power. That’ll come in handy when tired or drained.

It does kinda have a time limit though, if all the rings power is used in a short period of time it has to wait until at least an hour after it gets dark to get its power back. The ring charges it’s power better in darkness by absorbing the shadows.

Hades, Nico, and underworld creatures are the same way, theyre all more powerful in the mortal world at night.

Nico was surprised to read the slight apology from Hades for taking the ring (Hades rarely apologizes for anything, especially not for small misunderstandings like this), and for the happy 15th birthday. Nico had forgotten about his own birthday.

He neatly folded the note and put it in his jacket pocket and put on the ring. It looked as though it had been recently polished. The silver was shinier and the ruby eyes gleamed at him brightly. (Nico later finds out that the ruby eyes glow in the dark now).

He tried looking all over the palace for Hades to say thank you but he had vanished. He was probably busy with running the underworld. Nico sent a text to Will telling him all about the ring and that he’s coming back to camp now.

Later that night at dinner in camp, Nico sacrificed a whole meal of Hades’s favorite foods to him as a thank you.

Nico had his favorite food for dinner. Will, Kayla, and Austin had made him a huge chocolate birthday cake. It was a little lopsided and the icing was uneven. But Nico didn’t care about that. He was happier than he’d been in years for his birthday. Will led a sing-a-long at the campfire and Nico told scary stories afterward.

He slept over in Apollo cabin that night. They stayed up and talked and giggled for hours and built a giant blanket fort and watched Disney movies. Nico felt happier than he’d ever been, surrounded by his best friends, twisting the skull ring on his finger and knowing his father was watching out for him. He dozed off during The Lion King cuddled up with Will and slept peacefully though the night.

(No shut up I totally did not cry writing this, you probably cried reading this you big sap).

Now a little bit about how Nico uses the ring:

When he’s on mini quests he tries not to use it too much because he doesn’t want to be totally dependent on the ring and doesn’t want to use up all its power in one go. He only uses it in emergencies when he’s fighting and getting drained or already used up too much of his own power.

When he’s just chilling at camp and nothing much is happening he casually uses tiny bits of its power to mess with his friends or get out of awkward conversations or for playing hide and seek or sneaking into the Apollo cabin or playing pranks on campers or stealth tactics for capture the flag.

The ring always recharges fully at night, there’s no harm in using tiny bits of it throughout the day. Nico isn’t as tired as he used to be and doesn’t have to take as many naps. And no more passing out right after shadow-traveling.

Well that’s about it. I just wanted to explore the possibilities of Nico having a magic weapon like Percy and Thalia.

A Will Solace Character Analysis: the Underappreciated Soft Side

I’ve noticed many fanfictions have Will Solace OOC. So I’ve been thinking about aspects of Will’s personality fans seem to either gloss over or exaggerate. Here, this post is me doing an in-depth analysis explaining Will Solace’s canon personality in the books, and how it can sometimes differ from fanfictions. Sprinkled in this analysis are tips to fanfiction writers on how they write Will as more in-character.

There is one major aspect of Will that people seem to ignore or underemphasize. Nico best explains it when describing Will in this quote

Jason was a fighter. You could tell from the intensity of his stare, his constant alertness, the coiled-up energy in his frame. Will Solace was more like a lanky cat stretched out in sunshine. His movements were relaxed and nonthreatening, his gaze soft and far away. In his faded SURF BARBADOS T-shirt, his cutoff shorts and flip-flops, he looked about as aggressive as a demigod could get, but Nico knew he was brave under fire. During the Battle of Manhattan, Nico had seen him in action - the camp’s best combat medic, risking his life to save wounded campers.

To sum it up, Will Solace is a very chill and calm character. A lot of writers make Will more irrational, impulsive, overbearing, and emotional than he actually is. Will is not the type of character to create drama unless he’s, as Nico puts it, “under fire.” In other words, the intense side of his personality doesn’t come out unless the situation is urgent or dire.

Fans remember during the Second Giant War how he gets angry and argues with Nico over Nico’s health and shadow-traveling, so many assume Will is going to be this fiery over a lot of other things regarding their relationship. For example, fanfic writers may make Will controlling or overly sensitive with Nico. However, keep in mind, Will gets heated with Nico during the Second Giant War because Nico’s shadow-traveling is killing him. This is how Will describes Nico’s dire state.

“Coach Hedge told me all about your shadow-travel. You can’t try that again.”

“I just did try it again, Solace. I’m fine.”

“No, you’re not. I’m a healer. I could feel the darkness in your hand as soon as I touched it. Even if you made it to that tent, you’d be in no shape to fight. But you wouldn’t make it. One more slip, and you won’t come back. You are not shadow-travelling. Doctor’s orders.”

Will is a healer. When he touches Nico’s hand, he can sense how little sleep and food Nico has been getting and how Nico’s being taken over by darkness. Nico is on the verge of death and hasn’t cared about his health for a long time. Nico is also stubborn about it, so Will has to be aggressive in order to save Nico’s life. This aggressive behavior is not the norm for Will, but it can sometimes come out when he has to assert control in a life-or-death situation.

Will is a calming prescence. He’s a diplomat. He stops violence on multiple occassions.

He’s one of the few people who’s able to calm Clarisse’s violent rage, and he does so in a gentle manner.

Clarisse pointed her dagger at Rachel. “What about their allies, huh? Did you see that tribe of two-headed men that arrived yesterday? Or the glowing red dog-headed guys with the big poleaxes? They look pretty barbaric to me. It would’ve been nice if you’d foreseen any of that, if your Oracle power didn’t break down when we needed it most!”

Rachel’s face turned as red as her hair. “That’s hardly my fault. Something is wrong with Apollo’s gifts of prophecy. If I knew how to fix it –”

“She’s right.” Will Solace, head counsellor for the Apollo cabin, put his hand gently on Clarisse’s wrist. Not many campers could’ve done that without getting stabbed, but Will had a way of defusing people’s anger. He got her to lower her dagger. “Everyone in our cabin has been affected. It’s not just Rachel.”

One of the most underrated Will Solace moments is when he stops a bloody battle from happening between Camp Half-Blood and Camp Jupiter.  

But he knew it wouldn’t do any good. After weeks of waiting, agonizing and steaming, the Greeks and Romans wanted blood. Trying to stop the battle now would be like trying to push back a flood after the dam broke.

Will Solace saved the day.

He put his fingers in his mouth and did a taxicab whistle even more horrible than the last. Several Greeks dropped their swords. A ripple went through the Roman line like the entire First Cohort was shuddering.

“DON’T BE STUPID!” Will yelled. “LOOK!”

People are so used to seeing demigods, especially male demigods, being aggressive fighters that they can’t wrap their heads around a brave and strong demigod who actively tries to avoid unnecessary conflict and destruction as much as he can.

And that’s Will Solace’s strength: he has the ability to prevent as much harm as possible.

Will is a difficult character to write. There’s a lot of dueling factors with his personality. He’s calm and pacifying while also being brave and assertive. He’s fun and lighthearted while also being intelligent, logical, and grounded. He’s laidback while also being responsible and hardworking. He’s insecure but not melodramatic. He’s very caring and protective but not pushy.

Will’s personality confuses Nico sometimes too.

He’d always thought of Will as easygoing and laid back. Apparently he could also be stubborn and aggravating.

The trick to writing Will is to keep in mind his default personality is a soft and lighthearted character. Writers tend to overemphasize the hard side of his personality when his default personality is actually the soft side.

Think of the relaxing, lanky cat metaphor Nico uses for him. He and Nico bicker often, and it works for Will because he rolls with everything and doesn’t take things too seriously. He’s able to alleviate Nico’s moodiness with humor, wittiness, groundedness, and patience. Nico affectionately calls Will a “dork” because Will usually keeps things light. Interestingly enough, he’s able to be lighthearted without coming across as insensitive or an airheaded goofball, the latter of which is something Nico dislikes about Percy’s personality. On a related sidenote, another way writers make Will OOC is they make him too dumb or too immature. I know I mentioned to focus on Will’s soft side, but be careful to avoid that too. He’s a SENSIBLE, lanky cat.

The way Will keeps his composure during a stressful situation by using laughter while still being mature is expressed well in this exchange with Apollo. (Yes, Will has a lot to manage.)

It was difficult to think of this young man as my son. He was so poised, so unassuming, so free of acne. He also didn’t appear to be awestruck in my presence. In fact, the corner of his mouth had started twitching.

“Are—are you amused?” I demanded.

Will shrugged. “Well, it’s either find this funny or freak out. My dad, the god Apollo, is a fifteen-year-old—”

“Sixteen,” I corrected. “Let’s go with sixteen.”

“A sixteen-year-old mortal, lying in a cot in my cabin, and with all my healing arts—which I got from you—I still can’t figure out how to fix you.”

“There is no fixing this,” I said miserably. “I am cast out of Olympus. My fate is tied to a girl named Meg. It could not be worse!”

Will laughed, which I thought took a great deal of gall. “Meg seems cool. She’s already poked Connor Stoll in the eyes and kicked Sherman Yang in the crotch.”

The fiercer side of Will’s personality comes out only when the situation calls for it; this happens sometimes when he has to be a caring family member, a responsible healer, or a warrior in a dire situation. Even when he gets more forceful, he doesn’t get more forceful than he has to.

Since Will has such a balanced and lighthearted personality, what are his flaws? What are the dark sides of his personality? There are four main things that stick out.

1. He’s insecure about his self-perceived lack of abilities.

“I agree,” Will said. “I wish I was a better archer … I wouldn’t mind shooting my Roman relative off his high horse. Actually, I wish I could use any of my father’s gifts to stop this war.” He looked down at his own hands with distaste. “Unfortunately, I’m just a healer.”

2. He sometimes struggles to endure the heavy responsibilities he has as a healer and as a protector to his family.

“I got it reattached,” Will told me, his voice shaky with exhaustion. His scrubs were speckled with blood. “I need somebody to keep him stable.”

I pointed to the woods. “But—”

“I know!” Will snapped. “Don’t you think I want to be out there searching too? We’re shorthanded for healers. There’s some salve and nectar in that pack. Go!”

I was stunned by his tone. I realized he was just as concerned about Kayla and Austin as I was. The only difference: Will knew his duty. He had to heal the injured first. And he needed my help.

3. He forces himself to bottle his emotions to keep his composure.

Will laughed under his breath. “I’m terrified. But one thing you learn as head counselor: you have to keep it together for everyone else. Let’s get you on your feet.“

Here’s a second example.

I rested my hand on Will’s shoulder. “Don’t worry. We’ll be back by dawn.”

His mouth trembled ever so slightly. “How can you be sure?”

4. He constantly worries about his loved ones.

Nico rested his hand on Will’s shoulder. “Apollo, we were worried. Will was especially.”

In conclusion, Will Solace’s personality is difficult to get correct. But don’t worry, if you write Will as a laidback, witty cat in your fanfics, I guarantee he’ll be more in-character than many other fanfics with Will Solace.

(Note: I am only human. If you believe I’m misinterpreting some aspects of Will’s personality, feel free to express it. What I say isn’t 100 percent the right interpretation.)

sometimes i feel like people forget that most of nico and will’s interactions in boo are made during wartime when tensions are high and everyone’s in a frenzy to save the camp. one of the key things i always see in anti-solangelo or “abusive” solangelo posts is that will brushes aside nico’s self-imposed loneliness or otherwise “invalidates” his emotions and stuff like that

like... these kids are like 14 they’re dumb teenagers that may not be completely self-aware yet, and add that to all of the stress during the war and yeah, some things might be said that are less than sympathetic. of course that’s never an excuse for the shit someone says, just as mental illness isn’t an excuse for being a dick to someone, but it can be really hard to focus on being cordial in times of crisis

nico di angelo has seen some shit. will solace has seen some shit. they’ve both been through some potentially traumatizing experiences (nico especially). i imagine once everything settles down after the war they take some time to talk about things properly and clear the air and stuff like that. it’s one of the many things we haven’t gotten to see but may come up in the final toa book.

also, i’m of the opinion that nico lowkey needed that verbal smackdown from will cus sometimes you just need a good hearty kick in the ass to help you realize that things are not always what they seem

i’ve been playing the arcana a lot recently and holy shit i’m addicted. and naturally, it got me thinking about a pjo au cus i’m always and forever demigod trash.

mainly i’ve been thinking about magician will and apprentice nico (or vice-versa) cus i’m Predictable, but like, also who the cast as a whole would be

- like. asra deadass reminds me so damn much of will it’s not even funny, appearance AND personality-wise (no clue about faust tho)

- reyna would be nadia (with aurum and argentum being the two castle doggos).

- if not the apprentice, nico is 100% muriel (with mrs. o’leary or cerberus being inanna). 

- lovable dumbass julian is probably either percy or leo? we’ll go with leo (with festus as malak)

- cus piper as portia would be great and she and leo are basically bestie siblings anyway. (who would be pepi tho idk :c)

- as for lucio, i’m not actually sure. my first thought is octavian bc he’s a giant douchebag, but then that means that reyna would’ve been married to him and Gross, plus he’s more like valerius anyway. then i thought about jason cus he a) has the blonde hair and  b) used to have a thing with reyna and c) he’s also dead, but he definitely does NOT fit the asshole count role LMAO

- no idea about the other courtiers except bryce lawrence as vulgora tbqh.

- and ofc the gods make up the arcana themselves! like bellona as the high priestess, hades as the hermit, aphrodite as the star, etc etc

- asra is a child of hecate obviously - nadia... athena probably? - julian is 100% an apollo child and you cannot convince me otherwise. he does music and dancing and theater. he’s a doctor. don’t @ me. - muriel i immediately think hades but i don’t think it’s very fitting for him tbh. maybe the shyest, most docile ares kid ever cus of his coliseum days - portia also defaults to apollo by virtue of being julian’s sister, but i do think it’s kinda fitting for her too. barring that, idk, demeter??? - lucio... is probably the actual hades child given all of his Deals and also the whole death thing - VALERIUS IS A DIONYSUS CHILD. HE’S OBSESSED WITH HIS WINE. also the idea is kinda hilarious to me ngl - again, not sure about the other courtiers except vulgora is definitely house ares.

alright since everyone is throwing the “omg will and/or nico could die in tower of nero” crap around, it’s high time i posted the Big Theory i’ve had ever since the hidden oracle

SO. a thing i noticed every time will and nico showed up in THO, apollo had some weird waxing poetic moment about his relationship with hyacinth bluh bluh bluh. like oh look at my son he and his boyfriend are so cute i miss my dead boyfriend etc. also the hyacinth flowers that randomly showed up in the apollo cabin after he passed out for whatever reason. i have a feeling this is Significant.

now, let’s take into account that rick LOVES making allegories to other myths with his characters (see: silena literally being the patroclus to clarisse’s achilles in TLO). so here is where my theory comes in:

in TON, something will happen that will put will or nico in mortal danger. let’s say nico since everyone else is convinced it’s gonna be will. apollo, being extremely aware of the comparison of himself and hyacinth with will and nico, does NOT want will to go through the same pain that he did when he lost hyacinth :( so. SO. instead of history repeating and nico taking a discus to the head or what have you, apollo takes the blow for him. AND because of that selfless act, some of (if not all of) his powers come back and he wrecks shop. thus: will and nico are safe, apollo is (partially) in godmode, everything is fine, nobody dies, the ship is not broken up, etc etc

anyway this is just a prediction/theory (a gAMe ThEoRY) but it would not surprise me at all if rick pulled something like this. he can’t kill off the canon gays cus do you guys realize how much backlash he would get?? plus HASN’T NICO SUFFERED ENOUGH ALREADY JFC let the boy be happy and gay with his boyfriend gdi

so due to semi-popular demand, imma school you on some texan shit will is probably on. part one

everyone in austin just assumes his bright orange chb shirt is for a prepatory camp for ut because why else would you wear that much orange

people ask him if they really say yeehaw and howdy down in texas

“only if you’re from a&m, which you should never be”

he however will say it ironically just to annoy nico

“howdy nico!” / “i’m breaking up with you”

he knows how to ride a horse so pegasus riding was second nature to him

he organizes the summer tubing down the lake because it’s not a summer if you can’t go tubing down some wild rapids

has a habit of calling chiron sir because he would have gotten a lecutre from his mom for not showing respect

“what do you mean there’s no h-e-b here?”

he refuses to wear a pair of cowboy boots but definitely knows how to two step

FRIDAY NIGHT LIGHTS

when he does leave the camp with someone else driving, he wonders why they’re actually driving the speed limit

“you’re on the highway, you should be going 20 above the speed limit or stick to the right lane”

when there are new campers that are given the tour and they meet him at the infirmary, he’ll put on a thick southern accent just to mess with them

and then nico will show up and he’ll switch back to his normal accent and give the new kids whiplash

“and yall just gotta be sure now, the ares cabin ain’t full of all hat no cattle folk, they will try to tan ya hide”

“will?”

“yes nico, did you hurt yourself again?”

he and percy got in an argument over which soda is better, coke or dr. pepper

“YOU CALL EVERYTHING COKE”

“YES BUT I MEAN DR PEPPER, THE ONLY COKE THAT MATTER”

gets really heated when people tell him that they don’t like the grass at camp because it’s itchy

“HAVE YOU EVER HAD STICKERS BREAK THROUGH THE BOTTOM OF YOUR SHOES AND STICK ALL OVER YOUR SOCKS AND HAVE TO WALK ANOTHER MILE-”

will jokingly talk about band camp as if he were in it because marching band in texas is as big as the football

so after my post yesterday I had people ask me to write some headcanons for our favorite son if apollo. I'm not a born and bread texan, georgia what up, but I've been here most of my life and boy can I say Texans are weird

will yells "all y'all" a lot when giving instructions to campers and these northerners never know how to act

he may be the son of apollo but he's also texan. you'll see him preaching about good eating habits and then see him down sweet tea by the gallon

speaking of, what do you mean there's no sweet tea? how do you just not have sweet tea? NO YOU CANT JUST PUT SUGAR IN TEA AND CALL IT SWEET, THAT'S NOT HOW IT WORKS

after his rampage through camp, chiron makes sure there's always sweet tea on stand by

also on the list of things they dont have, will is upset that there's no whataburger around

he doesnt have a heavy southern accent but when you get him on a roll, his drawl will come out and everyone at camp swoons a little bit

Headcanon:

Will Solace is really popular at school, like insanely popular. Even though he isn’t on the same level as a lot of his absurdly talented siblings at CHB, he is still pretty good at basketball. He also has plans of becoming a doctor, so he’s really good at academics and is on the Academic Olympics team. He also takes almost all AP and Honors classes, so he is popular with both the jocks and the nerds with his good looks basically endearing him to everyone else. Imagine:

Nico goes to visit Will in the mortal world and goes to school with him.

He is really nervous to be back in a school again and meet so many new people, so as they walk in and everyone seems to know Will and want to talk to them, Nico gets more and more uncomfortable.

As the day goes on, Nico realizes just how popular his boyfriend is and his heart sinks. He has dealt with “popular” kids before, but he never thought Will would be like that. He mentally starts kicking himself for thinking that the Will he saw at camp was the entire picture. A lot of demigods lived completely different lives outside of CHB and it looked like Will did too.

But then, Nico starts to look closer. He notices how Will always talks to everyone who stops him in the hallway and follows up on something that seems to be important in their lives. And how he holds classroom doors open as people file in and out and gives out easy compliments as they pass him.

At lunch, Nico notices that they don’t sit with the basketball team like he thought they would, instead Will picks a table with a lot of quiet, awkward kids and has everyone talking and laughing by the end of the meal.

When they have a free period in the afternoon, Will takes Nico with him to the library where he tutors. He is trying to help one girl with her English assignment when she is reduced to tears. Will comforts her and explains that he has dyslexia too, and no, that doesn’t make her stupid. She is smart and creative and he is going to stay and keep working with her until the assignment is complete. He even gives her his home phone number so that she can reach out if she needs any more help or just to talk.

By the time they get to last period, Nico is practically beaming at the son of Apollo. They had been at war for so long that he had almost forgotten that not all heros wore armor and swung a sword.

Finally, the last bell rings and Nico and Will end up staying behind for a few minutes to help their last teacher of the day tidy up a few things. So as they head out, the school is much quieter than normal and something makes Will stop dead in his tracks. Being the son of Apollo, he has incredible hearing and he hears something that makes him tense on the spot. Nico becomes immediately wary. When Will turns on his heel and runs hard down the hallway, Nico follows without question. Will leads them to what looks like a locker room and slows, motioning for Nico to be quiet. Slowly they creep into the room and Nico is appalled at what they find.

Three very large upperclassmen have cornered what can only be a small freshman boy and it is clear that they have been bullying him. The smaller boy is crying while the three bigger ones are laughing and joking at his expense. Nico turns to Will and sees his expression go dangerously dark. Without warning, Will pushes his way into the room. The three older boys see him and their faces pale. “It’s time for you to leave, now,” Will announces with a cold certainty. Nico follows and stands behind him, trying to looks supportively menacing. To his surprise, the three older boys obey. They walk quickly past the demigods and and are almost through the door when Will speaks again. Without turning to look at the retreating figures behind him, he adds, “And boys, if I ever see you back here…”

To Nico’s growing surprise, the boys actually cringe. “You won’t, Will….I’m sorry…” replies the largest boy. “Good. Now go,” Will orders. And they do.

Will and Nico stay at the school for awhile. Nico watches Will calm the younger boy down. And eventually they walk him home. Later that night as they cuddle up to watch a movie, Nico tells Will how impressed he is with him and how he treats everyone around him. Nico can’t believe how much he keeps falling more and more in love with the son of Apollo. He even tells him the line he thought about how not all heros wear armor while he compliments him for how well he handled the boy in the locker room. Will just cuddles into Nico and smiles sleepily. “All heroes can’t wear armor, Neeks. Because not all monsters come from Tartarus.” And with that, he falls asleep.

WHEN A CHARACTER GETS WOUNDED AND THEY GO TO THEIR LOVE INTEREST FOR HELP AND WHILE THEY’RE GETTING THEIR INJURIES CLEANED AND PATCHED UP THEY FLINCH FROM THE STING OF THE ANTISEPTIC AND THEIR LOVE INTEREST SAYS “HOLD STILL” IN AN EXASPERATED BUT TOUCHINGLY CONCERNED TONE OF VOICE AND THEN THEY ACCIDENTALLY MAKE EYE CONTACT OR BRUSH HANDS AND JUST FREEZE IN THAT POSITION UNTIL THE TENSION IN THE ROOM IS NEARLY UNBERABLE BEFORE BOTH LOOKING AWAY AND PRETENDING THE UNSPOKEN THING THAT JUST PASSED BETWEEN THEM NEVER HAPPENED

Solangelo headcanon #12 (dam it’s been so looong)

Okay we know that Will isn’t that good at archery so maybe he just doesn’t fight in general, he can defend himself ofc (like hello he survived two wars) but he prefers healing the others

And every time he sees Nico sparring with his Stygian sword he’s shook because ohmigods his boyfriend is just so graceful and when he sweats and it’s warm outside and the little shit always wears black he goes shirtless and- ANYWAY you got it. There’s a lot of drool and Will is always admirative and proud of Nico

BUT even with his lack of fight abilities, he’s still very athletic and he can surf and loves basketball

TO GET TO THE POINT, one day, during spring break, they’re dating for over two years now and Will returned home in Austin for school but Nico stayed at camp. They really miss each other and Iris message every day and Will almost yields when Nico proposed to shadow-travel in Texas but he didn’t because hello his boyfriend’s health is the most important thing. “no underworld-ly powers di Angelo”

However thank the gods for Kayla Knowles, the perfect sister: she planned to visit Will and asks Nico to come with her as a surprise for Will and he accepts right away. Chiron gives them authorization to leave because they asked Percy to do the puppy eyes for them.

(A two hours flight with Nico is the funniest thing Kayla has ever experienced: he can’t stop squeaking every area of turbulence they go through, and she laughs so loud that passengers glare at them but Nico glares back and scares them to death)

They go unpack at Will’s when they arrive, his mom is on the plan too ‘cause she knew how much her son misses his boyfriend. She tells them Will is at the park near their house playing basketball with some friends

Mentally, Nico’s like “what? Basketball?” then they go to said park and oh

Like ohhh

Will shoots the ball right when they get here and scores a point and he’s all sweaty but cute in his sport clothes

Nico literally forgets how to breath and punches Kayla in the arm when she chuckles at him

Will doesn’t notice them at first and keeps playing but their friends stop when they see Nico approaching (“who’s that weird emo?” said one of them “he’s kinda hot” said another) then Will sees him and the prettiest smile ever paints itself on his face while he replies proudly “ watch your mouth guys, that’s my boyfriend”

Then he just lets go of the ball and runs in Nico’s arms (“I missed you so so so much Death Boy” “I missed you too Sunshine” then he whispers in Will’s ear “you’re so hot when you play basketball”) Will blushes while his friends whistle

Eventually, and after a veeeery long make out session, he says hi to his sister and they all go back to his house

Ever since that day, Nico would always watch Will play with hearts in his eyes. Will is actually on his school’s team and always lends his letterman jacket to Nico even though it’s too big for him. Nico proudly wears it because it has SOLACE at the back (also, he finds it funny that Will’s number is 7 like his cabin)

“So… Am I to believe you like wearing my name?” Nico never replies but can’t stop blushing at the idea of being called Nico Solace
