Evening Delta Fans! I hope you’re all enjoying your winter break, and if you’re like me that means you’ve gotten the opportunity to read a book or two. Recently I finished listening to the audiobook of Ernest Cline’s Ready Player One, and I have to tell you, I loved it!
Wade Watts narrates the story, detailing his own epic quest to find billionaire video game designer James Halliday’s “Easter Egg” - a secret item planted within the designer’s most elaborate game, The Oasis: a virtual reality system that has become integral to the everyday lives of people all over the world, just thirty years into the future. Whoever finds the Egg inherits the contents of Halliday’s extensive will, including a share in GSS, the company that runs The Oasis. But finding the Egg is no easy task: in order to earn to the grand prize, the egg hunter, or “gunter,” has to solve Halliday’s riddles to find three keys, each leading to a gate with a mystery task related to Halliday’s obsession, the 1980s. After five years of research, Wade finally makes a breakthrough, becoming the first gunter to find the first of the three keys, and effectively placing him at the top of the “scoreboard” located on Halliday’s website. However, this not only makes him famous, but puts him in danger as well, and as his adventure unfolds readers discover that finding the egg could change not only Wade’s fate, but also the world.
I would love some recommendations from you all, or even to hear your opinions on Ready Player One! I hope you’re all working on submissions for the spring as well, and I look forward to reading them for myself - but for now I’m happy to sit back, relax, and enjoy a good book :)

Do you like indie films? Erotic poetry? Alcohol? Held at the film location for the 1989 classic "sex, lies and videotape," this party will have it all. $5 at the door. $1 more enters you into a raffle for an unopened VHS of the movie. Proceeds to benefit Delta Journal. Come dance and read poetry with us (and pick up a free condom or two while you're at it). Saturday!
