I've gotten a hold of a very rare issue of Nintendo Dream from October 2017, containing an interview with the Splatoon developers. like seriously, i hadn't seen any documentation of this anywhere. HUGE huge thanks to @squidhominid, who spent Too Much Money to buy a copy and scan it!! Since a lot of it is formatted in blurbs like what's pictured above, I'd been unsure how to organize and share translations...I've decided I will gradually share snippets of it like so and compile it all later. Please be patient. Translation under the cut.

In relation to the characters from Story Mode The Rule-abiding Octarian Army

---Is Octavio a DJ and a general? Inoue: Well, his name is General DJ Octavio (laughs). He commands the Octarian army, so naturally he's a general. [[TN: Octavio's JP name includes "General" rather than just "DJ Octavio" like in english.]] ---Going off of that, there are other ranks, right? Amano: That's right. The Octarians as a species act seriously, so if they didn't have ranks they wouldn't be able to work properly. (laughs) Inoue: Originally, we made Octavio as a character as a pair to Cap'n Cuttlefish on the Inkling's side. Now as for why Octavio is an octopus that holds wasabi sticks... the act of "grating" wasabi made us think of "scratching", and "scratching" made us think of "DJ"...So he came to be both a general and a DJ. [[TN: takowasa, or octopus and wasabi paired together, is a popular izakaya snack. Same goes for atarime, (cuttlefish's JP name) dried squid. It's supposed to be like a snack showdown.]] Nogami: The Octarians are led by music. Octavio makes his own music to control them. Inoue: The music tells them to move and work according to the rules (laughs). ---So, for him as a general, is the music just for controlling the Octarians? Or does he enjoy it? Amano: It is for leadership, with that 'duntz duntz' sort of tempo. So I think for him, he sees the popularity and influence of the Squid Sisters as something that has a military-like controlling power. ---Is Cap'n Cuttlefish unable to turn into squid form, and can Octavio not turn into humanoid form? Amano: Cuttlefish can probably transform and produce some ink, but not like he could in his younger years. It's like when your grandpa says he's gonna do a squat, and he can kind of do it, but not really... it's like that. Inoue: Octavio became unable to take on his humanoid form due to an injury he got long ago. In a Sunken Scroll in S1, you can see a figure who appears to be Octavio before he was injured.

I was troubled by the fact that when this info was brought up by the writers of nintendo dream in that 2018 issue in a way that made it sound like obvious information, they didn't say when or where they heard it...but this is it.]]

Ever since I found out that the ENG VA for Woo Jinchul is ProZD, I've been wanting to do something with one of his sketches. And I'm sure many of us have wondered what if the armor and accessories that Jinwoo picked up were actually visible to others.

I've also been playing the game since the global was released so it was either Jinchul saying "HIYAA I THINK THAT ENEMY GOT THE POINT" or this

Dungeon Meshi AU for the solo leveling characters but instead of Jinah being the sister cleric that gets killed it's Jinwoo, and Jinah is the one who has all of this monster knowledge with her (because of her passsion of video games) and so she is the one who tries to save her brother before he is fully digested by the dragon.

(ramble below)

Jinchul is the overly exhausted elf that had studied under the same knight school as Jinwoo. He is skilled in swordsmanship but lacks the agilty and stealth that Jinwoo excelled at a lot and was praised for in the school grounds. ( I will probably have to read the manga to know if elfs can be fighters or why there hasnt been any so far until ep 17. But for now I guess this is just a subversion for funs sake.) He is the voice of reason between the group like Marcille is, especially when it comes to eating monsters, but his worry stems from the fact that he made a promise to himself to care for Jinah, in the case Jinwoo wouldnt be able to make it one day.

Juhee is exhausted of whole ordeal as well, but will not let Jinah go through this alone so she too joins in to rescue Jinwoo. Her magic isnt all that powerful enough to heal people (as expected of half foots) and yet she still tried from a very young age to become the best healer she can be. But appart from that she also has a lot of other hidden talents which adventurers try to recruit her for, such as magical knowledge and locksmithing.

The weretiger Yoonho had been living in the dungeon for quite a while now when the party met him. He had escaped from somewhere the party doesnt know of, and will probably never know, and had kept to himself all this time inside the dungeon, learning how the ecosystem of the dungeon has worked to the point while also becoming a part of it that played a more pacifistic role. He doesnt use his fighting abilities, as destructive as thety can be, for much because he sees his violence as a part he wants to get rid of. However he does come to symphatize a lot with Jinah's desire to see her brother again to the point where he too gets influenced to use some of his own power in bringing them closer to their goal.

(I have a lot more stuff to say but to finish off: Jinho is a hunter that has known Jinah and Jinwoo and had tried to befriend them but it just never seemed to work out in his favor. Jongin is the Captain of the Canaries sent on to deal with the dungeon that the team is currently going into. Haein was once part of the Team and in love with Jinwoo during the trip but deflected from the team as she heard of Jinwoo's death and resurection.

My Top Solo Leveling Ships

Wanted to talk a little about them, so I'll just list three main reasons why I like them otherwise this post will be endless. There are a lot of other ships I like, but these are the main ones

It's a little unhinged, but that shouldn't be new

1. ChoiBaek

This shouldn't be a surprise

They are aware of the other's intentions without needing to tell each other. They both read other people and each other very well. The only reason they don't get along is because when both of them want the same thing (recruiting Sung Jin-Woo, a gate in the area, etc), they are both very willing to fight for what they want and use their perceptiveness to their advantage. One of them doesn't mind having his thoughts being known while the other minds a lot

They both want their guild become stronger but not at the expense of their members. They have the same morals, but the actions they take because of their morals are different. Baek Yoon-Ho wants to make his guild stronger by focusing on what his members need as individuals (paying them more, training new recruits with stronger and more experienced members, etc). Choi Jong-In wants to make his guild stronger by focusing on improving how the teams work together (hunting in a orderly way to minimize injuries as much as possible, taking a leadership role to make sure none of the members are falling behind, making sure the teams are adequately prepared, etc). Both of them care a lot about other people, though they don’t make it obvious to others

Both know the other is strong (Choi Jong-In defends Baek Yoon-Ho when Sung Jin-Woo thinks Yoon-Ho is struggling during the Jeju sparring match while Baek Yoon-Ho is aware of Choi Jong-In's strength during the Jeju Raid) but tend to underestimate themselves (Baek Yoon-Ho believing he wouldn't have been able to win against the Japanese S-Ranks when he held out for a while on his own against two of them, and Choi Jong-In seeing his title as "a joke" after comparing himself to Sung Jin-Woo when he always has to limit how much of his powers he actually uses because of the people around him or the environment he is in)

This got long anyways... sorry. The others are shorter

2. SungPark

I wanted to see them more than the main couple

They are both selfless to the point where they make sure others are alright before taking care of themselves

They both want their family to be safe and happy and make taking care of their children their priority. Park Kyung-Hye tells her son it's okay for him to be a hunter, even though it's the reason why Sung Il-Hwan is gone, and she understands that it's something both her husband and son feel like they need to do

The way Kyung-Hye kept waiting for her husband to return home and knew the exact moment when he wouldn't be coming back Ripped my heart to SHREDS-

They were so in love laskdjfasdlf

3. MinLee

AKA younger!SungPark

Both of them have similar trauma, so they're able to help each other, especially since they're both retired

Even they have trauma, they have put their fears aside to help people more. Both participate in the last Jeju raid despite Min Byung-Gyu being traumatized from the last one and Lee Ju-Hee being traumatized from her previous raids

The way Lee Ju-Hee hardly showed up after she told Sung Jin-Woo she was retiring and Min Byung-Gyu barely being mentioned besides his trip to Japan before the Jeju Raid? There's so much potential for them to actually meet-

I see them as the "bunny couple"

4. ChulWoo

This was actually one of the first ships I really got into

The way Woo Jin-Chul knew Sung Jin-Woo from the beginning and was watching Sung Jin-Woo get stronger without realizing it at first

The way Woo Jin-Chul looked at Sung Jin-Woo in the new timeline when he remembered the previous timeline-

Honestly, in my opinion, Sung Jin-Woo had more potential with Woo Jin-Chul than Cha Hae-in. Like, Sung Jin-Woo avenging Go Gun-Hee not just for his sake but for Woo Jin-Chul? Sung Jin-Woo actually trying to not give Jin-Chul a headache but failing? I love their dynamic

5. HeeSeok

This is probably the most cracked ship out of these, but it's cute

Both of them have a caring, almost parent-like nature (Park Hee-Jin looking after Han Song-Yi during the Red Gate and Eun-Seok looking after and warning Min Byung-Gyu during the third Jeju Raid)

It's actually possible for them to have known each other despite it not being stated in canon (Eun-Seok was a member of the Fiend Guild, and Park Hee-Jin could have been a member of the Fiend Guild as well before leaving for White Tiger. The game might change this part about Park Hee-Jin, but I'll stick with it for now)

The way Eun-Seok wears a scarf with his hunter's outfit, and then Park Hee-Jin gets stuck in a frost Red Gate? And Park Hee-Jin looks somewhat okay despite it being cold, so it seems like both are fine in cold environments

Actually, in my monarch/ruler AU, Frost Monarch!Eun-Seok could be the reason Park Hee-Jin gets stuck there in that Red Gate...hmm
