when i went to alaska last summer, at all the parks and nature reserves and stuff there they of course had safety warnings about the wildlife.

In the vein of “sometimes insanely lovely unexpected things happen”; 10 years ago I wrote a fic, that still utterly blows me away with the reception it still gets.

Someone did a smutty podcast episode about it (I’m too afraid to listen to it 😅), someone cited it in an actual academic paper. And a few months ago, in a bookbinding gift exchange, some lovely person asked for my fic to be made into a book, which came included with the author also receiving one copy. And so, to my utter surprise today, I received an actual book copy of this fic I wrote 10 years ago, which is so utterly wild and lovely I can barely imagine it.

Creative communities are vital, and collaborative, and magical. To have written something that brings people joy, that inspires their own creativity, is the best reward ❤️

This tiktok/rednote thing is really proof that nuance is dead. A handful of interactions with normal Chinese people on social media and suddenly teenagers are simping for the CCP.

How difficult is it to understand that Chinese people are simultaneously a huge population of normal people, with varying, nuanced beliefs who — much like Americans & Westerners — are also likely being influenced by large amounts of government propaganda.

“But someone on rednote said x about China!” Gonna hold your hand gently, but random rednote users are not automatically reliable sources of information about an autocratic regime just because they live there. Or should I start taking your uncles fb rants about “the immigrants” at face value just because he’s American?

Yeah, the tiktok ban is bad and dumb and hypocritical, and tiktok/bytedance are probably not explicitly doing the CCPs bidding, but I legitimately saw people on twt call a Chinese critic a CIA asset ffs. That’s not the opinion of someone seriously unlearning pro-US propaganda, it’s someone who’s just fallen for different propaganda instead.
