What determines what moon a character dreams on? I know we have those weird scenarios w Vriska and Nepeta so idk how to pick which one to use for an OC
Though I can’t find the post right now (which is incredibly frustrating and I will be trying to find it again later), I did write on this some time ago. From my very vague recollection of how I think it worked best…
It’s entirely dependent, I think, on what will benefit the Player most: to be nourished by the welcoming, gentle nature of Prospit, or to be challenged by the harsh, cutthroat nature of Derse.
Think, for instance, if Jade would have thrived on Derse. While she probably would have made friends with the Dersites, the Black King and Queen, the Agents, and needless to say the Horrorterrors might have been too much for her. She’s terrified of the Horrorterrors; what if her only source of information had been them from the start? Would she have been able to commune with them in order to learn the truth of their session, to keep paradoxes stable, as she does in Homestuck? Or would she have rejected them entirely, tried to stop herself from sleeping as much as possible, etc, etc.
Conversely, what if she tried to start a rebellion on Derse? Jade is incredibly strong-willed, and tends to stick to her guns; if she thought the Dersites were under tyranic rule, would she really just sit there and let it happen, especially if she’s quite literally left in the dark? Would that be beneficial for the session, knowing that if she did this, either the Black Queen would try to take out Jade and John on Derse or the King and Queen would be prematurely defeated? What does that teach her as a Witch of Space?
In the same vein, if Rose had been a Prospitian, it… would have been much too easy for her. She’s a Seer of Light. If she was sleeping on the Moon that just threw prophetic clouds at her, what would she learn? She’d never have to seek out Light, never have to Learn from benefactors, because it’d all just be right there. It’d put her at a significant disadvantage, because then she’d never need a reason to - for instance - create the cue ball. Why bother doing that, thereby activating her powers as a Seer of Light, when she can more easily fall asleep?
Additionally, would Rose spend more of her time asleep if she were to wake up on Prospit and see the clouds? Would that actually benefit her, or the session, if she ended up spending more time staring at the clouds than putting her plans into motion, actively seeking out her information, when that’s such a significant part of her journey as a Seer?
You can see this pattern a lot in all of the characters throughout Homestuck. Why is Vriska a Prospit Dreamer? Because if she’d woken up earlier the kinder nature of Prospit would have encouraged her to be a much softer Player, and being on the same Moon as Terezi and Tavros might have likewise encouraged her to face past mistakes (and thereby go down the same growth path as (Vriska) did as a ghost). Meanwhile, Derse… might have made her worse. Encouraged her bad behaviours and the ideology that she needs to be violent and vicious and abrasive to survive, that it’s her against the world and she can’t reveal weakness.
Why is Eridan a Derse Dreamer? Because he needs to see the negative effects of the societal structure that he’s trying to convince himself he holds so dear in a non-Alternian context. He needs to be in a position where he can Destroy Hope and benefit his team - not by Destroying the Hope of the Prospitians, who are so Hopeful and need to stay that way, but by Destroying the Hope of the Dersites to weaken them in the war. He needs to see that this is something he can do, that he’ll be treated positively for it.
I think, in some ways, it might also be a subconscious reflection of the Player’s general personality (think John or Jade, both sweet and peppy characters who definitely fit more in with the general vibe of Prospit), or of who they want to be - their Ideal Self (think Jane, who maybe needs to learn some of the positive Prospitial attributes to combat some of the negativities of Life). Sometimes, it’s what they think they deserve, and then becomes something that subverts their expectations (e.g. Dirk, who seems to fit well in Derse’s cutthroat environment, but who instead rises up with the people).
So in my mind there’s a lot more to which Moon a Player ends up on than just “Active vs Passive”, and admittedly I think a lot of this is because Hussie never really planned things out in advance. We know, for instance, that the trolls were an on-the-fly addition, as were the Classpects that came with them. It’s not far to assume, therefore, that when Hussie first introduced Prospit and Derse, they were centred more heavily around the HarleyBerts (positive, bright, happy, outgoing, naive) and Strilondes (darker, mysterious, more underhanded, reserved) than anything else - their family traits.
Having to then shove 12 more characters into something he hadn’t fully fleshed out at first, and which was focused so exclusively on the four characters he’d actually planned for, can’t have been easy. Trying to then explain what the reasoning for these decisions were a decade later just makes things messy.
To bring this back to the actual question about your OC - you essentially have to think about which Moon would most benefit your Player. Which are they going to thrive on, or will most positively affect them? Which will make them grow into a better person? Will the brightness of Prospit encourage or disillusion them? Will the severity of Derse challenge or terrify them? Which motives them more? Which will make them a better Player?
You can also think about the other stuff I mentioned - which Moon most vibes with their personality or who they want to be, or what they think they deserve but ultimately subverts those expectations - but I recognise that can be very complicated, too, so you can skip that part.
There’s no 100% way to determine if you’re going to end up on Derse or Prospit, unfortunately. It’s just going to take a lot of thinking to come to that decision. It’s predominantly about individual needs.

I have a question based on an anon you answered recently. "Active/Passive; Group Oriented/Self Oriented; Serving Others/Being Served." This might be a me issue bc I have trouble wrapping my head around the deterministic aspect of Sburb, but! Could someone be both self oriented (ie knows their limits etc.) and serving others (ie willing go out of their way etc.) or group oriented and being served. How would Sburb solve this? Would this bring in aspects to resolve the class problem? -Thank you!
The Serving was specifically about Page and Knight as server classes just so you know! That said, yeah of course, Passive/Active divides are leanings, not hard, defined lines, more about tendencies and your arc. There's also the Prospit-Derse duality adding to this divide, and several personal factors.
Consider Jade, she's, by all means, quite selfless and concerned with her friends! However, when she's overly passive, she ends up cast away by the story, or not knowing what's going on, while taking charge herself and giving herself a focus allowed her to save the entire session, and is her natural state of fun-having on Earth-C, just focusing on herself.

So for most of my life I’ve thought of myself as pretty squarely in the Breath Player area, but now I’m looking more into Blood and just kind of going “Oh. Ohhhhhh.” Which I find ironic considering it’s my ‘opposite’ aspect hah.

Let’s say the server player is busy doing something but is also trying to get the client player in? Can their sprite help the client get in?
Yeah, if they’re cooperative enough, sure!

Do you think a void player going grim dark would just be void^2?
It would tilt the Void Lean very in a Horrorterrible Direction. Void can be many things, but Grimdark Void is very… Eldritch.

Do you have any Deity, Myth, whatevs!! That reminds you of a Thief of Void? I'm making a ToV rn but BOY OH BOY it's hard to find a story or character where the theme is 'Steal Nothing'
You’re thinking too simple. What about Stealing and leaving nothing but Void in your wake? Stealing through Nothing, too, leaving no trace, completely shrouded in shadows and mystery, a perfect crime. Or any other meaning of Void on top of that. No ideas for myths or such though!

there's a division between what's valid and what's not. and as long as homestuck 2 is written by hussie's friends, has hussies name attached to it and is the "OFFICIAL" sequel then it doesnt matter what fans think, theres literally the Author telling you "no youre wrong lol" you cant like jane andrew hussie says that shes evil in both timelines. that division means theres no freedom, its just a secondary faction getting to influence the popular mindset because theyre his buddies.
The HS^2 Writers have explicitly and constantly called their Sequel to have no more validity on a Fandom Level than Fanfiction would otherwise, encouraged the Fandom directly to still use their Headcanons and their Takes and influence, made Pesterquest which entire point is to say “Canon hurts the characters within the comic, I, an embodiment of the Fandom, want them to be happy, and so I am going to protect them and lead them down a different path that doesn’t lead to what I have seen”.
The HS^2 content also is more nuanced than that, with Jane in Meat still being redeemable and even characters like Dirk being showcased to be doing things because of shit they’re going through, being in denial, being in the wrong.
Showcasing negativity possibilities for characters doesn’t mean there’s no possibility for redemption for such characters, particularly when canon content directly shows this to be the case, and side-content made at the same time shows these characters in positive lights.
This is not a problem of the Team or even the Fandom here, anon, this is your jaded opinion on the current state of Homestuck, and your own inability to be nuanced. You latch onto the negativity, and roll with it. You take the worst takes possible on what’s going on and spin things and exploration into their worst possible iterations, then complain about it.
You want Change in how things are happening? Then Change, nothing is stopping you.

what you recommend rage players have in their lands?
Good question!
The land of a session is supposed to both represent the flaws of the player and help them overcome those flaws in some way. Of course, it varies heavily with class, as some (like the bard or prince) act in a way completely opposite of their aspect at first.
In general, the rage aspect is a very negative and immovable aspect, the opposite of the hope aspect’s undying optimism. Land quests tend to lean towards cultivating the inner fury inside the player and learning to use it in a healthy way. This may be by releasing pent-up anger, or by teaching the player not to blow up at inopportune times.
The rage aspect is associated with symbols like drama, theatre, passion, masks, demons/fallen angels, and especially counterfeits. While these words may apply to your player, they may not! The most important thing is to ask: what is the player most passionate about? A hobby is a good place to start for the theme of your land. There can also be a similar theme among lands in a session, and there often is, so build off of that if you want!
And if you’re having trouble finding words for the Land Of __ And __, I suggest a thesaurus or a random word generator. Looking up the obscure definitions of words and finding fancy synonyms can really help spice up that name.
Good luck!

Can someone switch between two fetch modi? I can't recall what was said about this or if there even was anything said. Not necessarily switching often, but every once in awhile switching to the other and then switching back to the first some time later. I think John changed his once or twice in the beginning, but he never returned to one of his earlier modi. It could just be that the others sucked so he never wanted to go back, though.
John is Dumb of Ass and got a perfectly usable Array Modus that allowed him to take any card out at any point, but instead mixed Modii together just to make it harder on himself. As for the switching, though, I mean…

Did tavros ever show any romantic interest in Vriska after the ring fight with John? I thought he'd totally dropped it by the time they had friends pirating around with them and he could theoretically leave now but I'm not sure...
Honestly I don’t even know if I’d even consider Tavros whole Ring shtick to be actually having a romantic interest in Vriska, rather than him compulsorily chasing after her in some twisted gesture of feeling useful and confident.

You mentioned optimisticDuelist made a list of what each part of the story a class stood for. Do you have a link to that? I NEED to see it! :D
It was the Aspects, not the Classes, but, while I don’t know where to find it, it’s in the little Aspect Cards he puts in his videos!

What’s the difference between Mage of Heart and Slyph of Heart?
(Still clearing out the inbox, so please try not to send more classpect asks. Thanks for your patience.)
This sounds like the setup for a joke, but I like it, so I’m answering it.
Mages of Heart tend to have an innate understanding of their aspect, but this knowledge usually comes at a price. Like Sollux understood the rules and systems of SBurb, but that came at the cost of the stability of his powers, as well as the voices. So Mages of Heart would have an extensive knowledge of emotions, desires, theirselves, etc.
Sylphs of Heart inspire and heal with their aspect, so this classpect acts as a kind of Cupid/matchmaker, etc. setting up relationships, etc. They would be matchmaking to an extreme, even if they weren’t entirely correct in their choices. It’s the Meddling of Sylphs.
Hope that helps!

I'm a Rogue of Mind so my job is getting the brain cell and then hot-potatoing it in the general direction of anyone who seems to need it
I usually don’t answer these questions but this is literally the best visual I’ve ever metaphorically seen. Snatching those enemies’ plans, thoughts, and brain cells and just yeeting it into your teammates so they have the advantage of being able to predict their enemies moves. Probably a super useful class against the black king especially depending on how many powerups he got when you all did your prototyping. Or just really useful when a teammate forgot the name of something you could just toss them an extra brain cell or two to be able to remember. Perhaps even useful for when a teammate is overthinking things and becoming extremely stressed you could steal a few brain cells and just give them away to someone else so that they can just have a moment of peace. A balance between no thoughts head empty and all thoughts head full to be able to actually think clearly and you can help with that. 10/10 class.~Mod Cain
