Duplicates have the right to rp the same muse as you are.
Duplicates are not here to steal your friends/partners.
Duplicates bring in their own interpretation and uniqueness to their muse.
I do UNDERSTAND there are duplicates who were problematic, like stealing headcanons and ideas from their muns who are rping the same character they are. You have the absolute right to be wary, ignore them, and not befriend them. Though, for the most part, they’re all here to have fun and bring in their own style. And I am starting to notice people are leaving fandoms merely because there are muns who hates “competition”.
Since when did rping become a contest to see who’s the best?
Like I said, you have the right of not wanting to associate or befriending with duplicates especially if you made it known in your rules. But throwing in the passive aggressive attitude and telling others not to interact with them, ostracizing them from the community is not the right way to do it if you feel insecure around them. There’s the block button and tumblr savior.
Most importantly: You have the right to be insecure, but your mental illness is not a valid excuse to be mean.
Respect your rp partners who are fast. Don’t shame them. It’s not a bad thing that they are excited about your reply or have a method. Making them feel guilty is wrong. Don’t fault people who want to reply to you. It doesn’t mean that people who are fast, do not have a life. Some people just are most comfortable being quick and are excited. There is nothing wrong with being fast.
Respect your rp partners who are slow. Some people just have a longer process, ponder things longer, and genuinely are just busier. Some people just prefer to have a longer queue, take longer. It doesn’t mean they’re not excited. There is nothing wrong with being slow.
I just made a realization. Everyone (myself included!) has been talking about the beta editor and trim reblogs as though they come as a pair -- as though trim reblogs can only be used on the beta editor, and is completely inaccessible otherwise. But that's not true. You can use trim reblogs with the legacy editor. You just need to download the XKit Rewritten extension and turn on the feature.
This means that if you're not willing to commit to the beta editor for whatever reason, you can still mostly accommodate your partners who are. Most of the incompatibility with cutting posts comes from how editable reblogs breaks Tumblr's formatting, not from the legacy editor itself. There may still be a double posting issue when threads were originally made in legacy, which is really annoying, but it's much easier to deal with. (See my post of fixes for it.)
So this my new request to roleplayers -- please learn how to use both methods of cutting posts. Learn to spot which method your partner is using (or just ask them), and then match them for their threads.
If your partner's replies look like this:
They're using editable reblogs. You can do the same.
But if their replies look like this:
They're using trim reblogs, and you should be too.
Trim reblogs works by saving the post to your drafts, clicking the scissors icon, and selecting which old replies you want to remove. You can add your reply before or after doing this, but adding it after trimming reduces the possibility of glitches. Again, you can do this on the legacy editor. It is not difficult to learn and will make a world of difference to your writing partner.
(To be clear, I still think everyone should begin switching to beta, since legacy may still cause some issues for your partners. But if you're just not ready to commit to a whole new text editor yet, consider this your intermediate step.)
Hellboy is one of my favorite characters of all time. He's very smart but not cerebral. Hes built like a barrel. Soulful and brooding but maintains a sense of whimsy. Loves paprika chicken. Accustomed to violence yet highly empathetic. Gruff but has a great sense of humor. Punches nazis on sight. His best friend is a fish. He's killed rasputin. He's big scary and red and has tiny little hooves
Reaches over and grabs his horns. "Hm!" - Unprompted
Hellboy lowered himself to the eye-level of the small Japanese child, in thoughtful consideration that his massive height could be... well, intimidating. But then again, this was no ordinary child. She smelled similar to the man-eating demons he had ran into. An oni, he deliberated. Highly dangerous and troublesome beings that need to be killed on sight.
… But instead of reaching out for one of his more merciful weapons from his coat’s pockets, the big red detective’s gaze softened at what seemed to be a dried bamboo on the girl’s mouth. It seemed to have been tightly wrapped around her face. Like a muzzle.
Jeez, he thought grimly. The poor kid.
Right when a solemn Hellboy was about to get back up, he was taken aback at her sudden attempt to touch the two stumps a top his head. Though he had filed them again recently, Hellboy could still feel the ghost of his once proud protruding horns.
❛ ... Yeah. You're not like the others, huh ? ❜ he murmured gently, in a way his gruff voice could muster. And seeing as the girl took such great interest, Hellboy decided to oblige and to tilt his head down more so that she could further inspect his technically, amputated horns. ❛ You got a name, kid ? ❜
