he loses track of how long he stares at the phone in his hand, eyes glued to steph’s name, before finally pressing TALK. even as it rings, too loud in the ringing silence of the room, he has no idea what he’ll say  ---  how does he tell her that his brother is gone, dead because jackson couldn’t protect him? (but then again, that’s getting to be a recurring theme in his life, isn’t it?) 

as much as he doesn’t want to leave this in a message, he’s not surprised when it goes to voicemail; steph doesn’t answer her phone most of the time anyway, and if he’s being honest, right now he can’t even remember what timezone she’s in. he doesn’t want to leave it in a message, but she needs to know, she is ---  WAS  ---  just as important to abe as he is was.  ( waswaswaswas abraham in the past tense threatens to crush his ribcage even as he finally speaks. )

“hey, it’s me.” it hangs for a second before he makes his decision. if he doesn’t get it out now, before he falls to pieces, he doesn’t know if he’ll be able to. “there was ---  there was an accident.”  ( ACCIDENT feels like a fundamentally wrong way to describe it, hearing abraham’s final shouts and fight before that awful, awful silence, and the break in his voice betrays that fact. ) he realizes he’s gone too long without saying anything, but he still doesn’t rush what comes next, it sticks too firmly in his throat for him to even try. 

“something’s wrong with the lions, they ---  abe is... he’s gone, steph.”  his voice is shaking and so is he but he continues. “i tried ---  i don’t ---  i’m sorry.”

the door slams open as his arresting officer storms in, rage written all over his face.

jackson isn’t particularly noisy, just in general. he tends to run more in the vein of quiet swearing or growling.  ( tbh a lot of this has to do with just. being a guy who’s never really lived anywhere with proper sound insulation )  that said, if he’s teased enough or has been away from his partner long enough that can make him a bit more vocal, but never is he especially loud.
