For the first time in my life EVER, I feel comfortable in my own skin and I’m really starting to understand and grasp who I am. I have never felt connected to my body in general. It felt off, like I didn’t want it or it wasn’t mine. It was a strange feeling my whole life to not know who/what I am. Like, for real, I could pinpoint 1 thing since I was a kid: I was broken. That’s all I could identify with up until a few months ago. Now I’m pretty sure it was because I’m a man stuck in this body and I just didn’t get it until recently. 

What a fuckin’ ride this is. Never thought I’d be questioning my gender at this point in my life.

My baby girl graduated from college today. She worked so hard, especially during the lockdowns and stuff, but also had to work 30 hours a week to survive. as her parent, the amount of pride I feel for her is immeasurable. As a fellow neurodivergent, I am inspired!

So...anyone remember that nurse practitioner that didn’t want to prescribe me a medication that I’ve become dependent on because it is literally almost identical to SSRI medications and I’ve been on FOR YEARS. It is a muscle relaxant and it is called Flexeril. I had a back injury that my doctor at the time prescribed me the medication but never took me off of it, and I haven’t had any doctors ask if I wanted to go off it. It does help me sleep because of the pain I have, but I don’t like being on it anymore because I think it’s fucking with my other psych meds.

Fast forward to the other day. I see her because for some reason my partner doesn’t care that she’s incompetent and has no idea what she’s doing. He asked me to go with him, and I told him I would go but I wasn’t sure I could hold my tongue if she was going to be shitty.

So we go in there, she’s cordial, whatever. My partner is having severe upper back pain. He has had horrible pain for years but no one wanted to help him because apparently he’s a drug addict for smoking weed in a legal state to help him with his pain because no one else would. Anyway, she decides to prescribe him a different muscle relaxant that isn’t super addictive. She then proceeds to tell him, not me, that Flexeril is highly addictive (note: NOT a class A drug), and the one time she saw someone using it they had a “mental breakdown” because she went off it. I asked her if she tapered it down for the woman and she didn’t respond. I told her the reason that poor woman went crazy is because you took her off a medication that ACTS AS AN SSRI and you can’t just go off it. She told me SHE DIDN’T CARE and that she would never prescribe it. She kept calling me an addict for continuing to take it.

Look, I have been on a LOT of SSRIs in my life, and I know when I just stop taking this med, I have severe withdrawal symptoms. The least thing she could have done was taper me off. Fortunately I have a different doctor now, who is helping me get off it because I don’t want to be on it anymore. 

So this nurse practitioner thinks she knows everything about psych meds, which she obviously has no clue about. I’m reporting her again to the board. I really don’t think this woman should be practicing medicine if she actively hates people with mental health issues and people who are addicted to substances (also a mental illness just fyi).
