i was at a restaurant last week, watching the political ads on the TV between sports games. one from the trump campaign ended with the slogan “kamala is for they/them. trump is for you”. it was vilely clever - and it made a clear statement about who was the enemy, the other, the unwelcome, in trump’s great america. i thought about how the right had gone all-in on transphobia this election season, and i hoped it was a gamble that would cost them.
this week has been a gut punch, and i’ve been feeling a lot of things - rage, fear, grief, and subspecies of those emotions. what i kept coming back to, though, as i digested these feelings, were the people i love. my queer friends. the trans kids in my community. the people who, already, are losing their rights to bodily autonomy, state-by-state. the way that i’ve had to start looking at our country as a fucked up patchwork of safe and not-safe. the way that access to medical care, increasingly, changes depending on which side of an arbitrary border you’re on. i’m also realizing the ignorance and privilege it is to only think of our country this way, now. america has always been about picking and choosing who deserves rights, who we consider a person. but, despite the deep-seated flaws of this country, i live in it. so do so many people i love. and that’s what I keep coming back to: the people i love, and my desire to protect them. at the very center of all the rage and hurt and anxiety and sorrow i’m feeling, is a deep, perilous love. i am holding onto that love. i hope you are, too.

ok last thing. but what people fundamentally need to get through their heads is the significance of gaza fundraisers not being the same as like mutual aid when you're helping someone get groceries, because it is a genocide. there is insane deliberate scarcity and prices are unmanageable, because there is nowhere nearly enough for everyone, so only people who can pay can eat. and what positioning individual fundraisers as the only course of action does is quite simply give a tiny percentage of random people whose fundraisers take off the ability to pay those prices while thousands of others can't. and every one of those thousands of people without a fundraiser is suffering through the same inconceivably horrific reality. it is giving a few completely desperate people out of hundreds of thousands a slightly more favorable position in a horrific war economy of imposed scarcity. and what grassroots community kitchens do is try to mitigate in some small way that inconceivable hierarchy of who can pay and who can't, by stretching ingredients as far as they can last to cook meals at large scale and give them out at no cost. and obviously people are still going to send money to their friends and families because this is hell what else are we supposed to do but please just think about that before promoting endless individual fundraisers as somehow the most ethical way to help

some quilts by Jonathan Shannon (1938–2016) photographed at the San Jose Museum of Quilts and Textiles
Canciones de Mi Padre, 1989
From My Garden of Earthly Delights, 1992
Amigos Muertos, 1994. Rejected from the American Quilter's Society show due to the inclusion of Shannon's red AIDS ribbon (left skeleton). Shannon had won Best in Show the year before. Shannon organized protest letters as a result and made some impact on the issue of censorship in quilting.
Shadows: Gay Men's Chorus, 1995

I'm already seeing advice from people in the US to purchase queer books and other banned or "controversial" books on paper as a way to combat the wave of government censorship that is coming. While this is a good idea (it is! absolutely!), it's not accessible to everyone, and truly, we're not going to be able to consumerism our way out of this one.
If you can buy the books, do. Whether you can buy the books or not, borrow them from your library.
Borrow the paper versions. Borrow the ebook or audiobook versions. Request the titles you want that your library doesn't have. The more a title circulates or is requested, the better librarians are going to be able to defend keeping it if and when it's ever challenged.
Use libraries like @queerliblib too. The more members they have, the better they'll be able to fundraise.
Your community resources depend on you using them. Borrow the books before they go away.
InB4: Piracy is not the solution here. We're trying to keep community resources available, not make sure individual people can read individual books. Different problems.
The books are still available. Borrowing them from your library and returning them on time and in good condition will help keep them that way.

yet again bashing my pointer at the enormous sign that says "it's not that [witches/goblins/vampires/motherfucking krampus] are necessarily specifically jew-coded in an antisemitic way - though they may be and in fact often are, but you do have to take that part case by case - so much as it is that the entire european idea of what is monstrous is so deeply intertwined with ideas of jews as inhuman outsiders that some of that is going to leak in from the groundwater no matter what you do".
do not piss on the poor about this post i do not have it in me.

Tumblr media
🎉 Thank you so much to everyone who donated and shared our GoFundMe! We’ve hit $6700, and we couldn’t have done it without your incredible support. Your generosity means the world to us!
Tumblr media
Dear Tumblr Friends,
I’m begging you—please, do not scroll past this post. Mohammed, his family, and his young niece are in a desperate situation, and they need our help urgently.
The airstrike that shattered their lives has claimed the lives of everyone in his niece's family—leaving her completely alone. They have lost everything: their loved ones, their home, and their sense of security. 😢💔
Tumblr media
Now, they are living in a tent, struggling daily with no fresh water and barely any food. To make matters worse, Mohammed’s brother is still missing. Their situation is critical and time is running out. 🚨
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Mohammed is trying to escape to safety in Egypt, but the cost is staggering: $5,000 per person. Without these funds, their chance to flee their nightmare is slipping away. 😔💔
Here’s how you can make a REAL difference:
Donate: Every dollar counts. Your contribution can help cover the crossing fees and offer Mohammed and his family a glimmer of hope for a safer future. 🌟💪
Share: Spread their story. The more people who hear this, the closer we get to our goal. Your voice matters! 📢💬
Offer Support: If you have any resources, connections, or ideas to help, don’t hesitate to reach out. Every bit of assistance can change their lives. 🤝💖
Please, don't let this opportunity to help slip away. Their lives depend on our collective action. Your support can mean everything to them in this critical time.
Thank you from the bottom of our hearts for your kindness and support. Together, we can make a life-saving difference. 🙏✨

Aster is a lifestyle influencer with a picture-perfect life–but he isn’t all he seems. He’s a werewolf who grew up in a strict separatist pack, and while he escaped his old pack years ago, the trauma from his upbringing came with. When Aster learns a wildlife photographer is poking around the pack’s territory, Aster has to go home again after swearing he’d never go back–or risk an outsider learning too much for his own good.
Laurence isn’t good with people. He just wants to take wildlife photography and keep to himself. When Laurence runs into a gorgeous lifestyle influencer with zero wilderness survival skills deep in the woods, he doesn’t know what to do or how to act. It turns out the two of them have a lot in common–except the small issue that Aster can turn into a wolf. Suddenly Laurence finds himself immersed in a world he knows nothing about, where mistakes come with a steep cost–and he’s already made a few.
Card Zero Press is proud to present Outside Influence by Alyssa K., a high-drama, high-heat werewolf romance for fans of the T-shirt “I’m not the step-dad, I’m the dad who stepped up.”
Outside Influence is available now on itch.io!
