Iida: Why are you so paranoid?
Todoroki: I threw a boomerang years ago and it never came back. I live in constant fear.
Todoroki: Either that or the absolute fuck ton of trauma. You decide

And let's also not forget that SnS herself stated - after the battle was in full motion already- that at this level Endeavor could have easily beat him.
Her power might look crazy strong, but the limits are just as present
The worst thing about Kathy existing is that people start making fun of Japanese pro heroes because they don't have quirks that break power scaling like Star's quirk does. And it's just sad because Hori himself made japanese pros look like a joke.
Why would anyone who has lower power level be a joke? Why would someone who has more power be automatically cooler or a more important character?
Just because All Might did this in Chapter 94:
does that mean that nothing ever was hype afterwards? This is probably still the highest pure power-output we have seen in the manga - or at least Star is constantly telling us that she's below All Might in power levels.
I mean these other things, weren't nearly as powerful, but they were still hype, because it was a character taking their power and their arc and pushing themselves to do something right:
To me, at least, the hype-ness comes from somehow taking the stakes / the emotion / everything about that character and make the scene elevate that into a high-point is what creates the hype.
Heck, Deku running in and hitting the Sludge Monster with a backpack was hype, not because he was so powerful or had amazing thoughts or powers, but because all of his emotions, hopes, disappointments, pain, hurt, optimism were rolled into that moment.
I felt something when Deku threw his backpack.
Star can make all the fancy moves she wants. I have no feelings about it, no hype, because I have no emotional attachment to this character. I haven't watched her struggle, feel her hopes, understand what drives her or what limitations she's facing.
And for the kids too, in the endgame, their hype-ness won't come from visually outdoing Star's powers, but to rise above their weaknesses or overcome their own limits in meaningful ways. That kind of hype is in reach for any character with a little clever build up, not just the main Trio.
It is true that fandom (especially reddit) can be insufferable about these things. But honestly, the moments that stay with me the most are not about the biggest power displays.
I prefer organic growth than a random character dropping in and doing "cool stuff" in an absolute narrative vacuum.

This is precisely why I adore Hunter x Hunter above all other animes. (And Fullmetal Alchemist as well.) The MC isn't the strongest, he isn't the most intelligent and he relies on others' abilities to reach his goal. Heck, Kurapika falls more into the classic shonen MC category than the actual MC Gon does. (For real tho. Insane power upgrades, always being right at the middle of stuff, leaving to go solo and returning even more BAMF, tragic past(TM),...)
I had such high hopes in MHA, and I really hope that if Hori isn't given the time to wrap everything up like he obviously intended to at first there will at least be some kind of Todofam sequel. Because let's face it, there's way too much still open.
I still like MHA, sure, but I literally found myself skipping episodes that I didn't like in the manga. Like JTA Deku battle, it took months until I watched it. And then only because I needed the visual for a fanfic I am working on.
Sincerely hoping the other chars will get their big moments after all. Hori created such amazing people, I just want them to have a satisfying ending 🥲
“the MC with the most free candies in shonen history. " That's not quite accurate. Naruto the character concludes the series as a literal demi-god by virtue of being born into the right clan at the right time. Ichigo becomes the only quincy/shinigami/fullbringer hybrid once again by virtue of who his parents were. The less said about Goku the better. Protagonists receiving ridiculous powerups is an issue in shounen but Deku is far from the only or even biggest offender.
Yeah, probably. I stayed away from those because I’ve heard horrible things and I knew I wouldn’t like them. Sadly I fell into the BNHA rabbit hole and now it’s too late.
Knowing what I know of the series now, I’m not sure I’d invest into it.
To me, the draw of Deku was initially that he seemed different - not the chosen savior trope, but unfortunately his character progression became increasingly disappointing to me starting basically from the Overhaul arc. It feels like all his power-ups come for free, with no good story foundation.
He is also incredibly passive in all of it. Sixquirks just happens to him because of quirk singularity. He’s stupid at the war, but gets bailed out by the vestiges and all is forgotten. Yoichi does all the work convincing the 2nd and 3rd vestiges; Deku does nothing, gives up nothing. His arms are fine. He can let his friends down, they’ll still worship him unconditionally.
Also, from what I know of those series, at least there is some breathing room for the rival characters.
But MHA still hasn’t even given a serious villain fight, not to talk of an actual focused arc to Bakugou, or to Shouto and we are almost at the end.
Plus, any progress or growth they make in their own arcs always gets credited to Deku and this writing is incredibly off-putting to me.

You know what I miss on Tumblr?
Being able to block certain adds. No, I don't want to play Hogwarts Mystery, and that won't change if you keep shoving videos of two kids kissing down my throat. I'm fucking ace, wanna get me to play your game, show me dragons.

Hey there! This question may come off as wierd but I was wondering if theres any particular Todoroki and Bakugo moment that stands out to you? Or one that you really like? Just curious!! Love your posts<3
I treasure every single interaction they have in the manga. This is a list of some favourite things I wrote a while ago.
I think that list since then has been partially superseded with recent things like:
1. TDBK combo
2. Shoulder pat
3. Standing very close
4. Shouto saving Bakugou
But I think the most special TDBK moment remains this one for me, where they become heroes together, get their first win as heroes together, and All Might blesses them together.

"The music choice really makes it look like Endeavor was trying to push Shoto to greater heights [...] and he just refused to put effort in."
I think this is exactly why I personally consider the music an interesting and controversial choice instead of simply a bad one - this is how Endeavor used to see his training. Nobody considers himself bad or evil, he was deeply convinced he was doing the right thing. The thing leading to victory in the end. His heir, growing stronger than anyone else.
From Shoto's end, however, the training wasn't encouragement but torture. Thus the darker tone.
It shows the contrast quite nicely, shows just how many steps have to be taken to mend the bridges between those two.
I thought that the upbeat music was a strange choice for the Shouto flashbacks. It somehow made this scene feel much less sinister than the FB in the Sport Festival, even though I think this is an even more traumatic time for Shouto (post scarring, post-Rei hospitalisation, post-Touya’s death)…
The anime really leaned into the Endeavor-redemption, padding out the arrest scene, while toned down the stark difference between how representing a teacher / carrying a legacy is a positive motivation for Iida, Deku or Tokoyami, but Shouto is still struggling with a lot of trauma.

That life sometimes is shit and all your efforts can just as well amount to nothing? That you have to do the right thing sometimes even if it feels like nothing changed? I think there are a few good messages to find, but those are all pretty under-the-hand...
Parasitic Jaeger, uh? Isayama really trolled all us to make us believe that the series had an important oculted moral meaning when in reality at the end it was just the banality of evil, the difference it's that instead of justify the evil because "it was my job, I just was folowing orders", the explanation it's "I was feel like to do it, dunno why, uwu".
I headcanon that Levi and Onyankopon are travelling through the world to let it go all the shit that was hapened, Onya is showing Levi how diverse and complex is(was) the world that Ereh wanted to destroy
ABSOLUTELY! Like, the fuck was I supposed to take from this manga? Nothing meaningful at least...
Also I'm here for Onyakopon and Levi traveling!

I refuse to read it any different than Armin just wanting to give Eren some peace in death while still disagreeing. Absolutely and utterly refuse.
The worst thing the manga did imo was make Eren into a hero in the end. Armin thanks him for committing mass genocide…. this is beyond fucked up.

The way I understood it, the surviving members of the 104th are now ambassadors for Marley/the majority of the world, on their way to Paradis to make sure peace is kept. And hopefully able to do just that...
Okay wait, so the warriors/104ths are ambassadors for who now? Paradise or Marley? Have we basically "switched sides" and historia and co are now the "new devils" for being fascist military suckers?

I DO understand the antis saying Bakugo deserves some of it since he literally told someone to kill himself. Emphasis on SOME.
But he has grown a lot since then. Similarly to Endeavor, that doesn't make his bullying ok, but it shouldn't be something that defines the rest of his life. He's changing constantly for the better. Nobody had the right to deny him that.
He grew from... That gremlin into a loveable gremlin. And boy will I cherish that angry spiky boy he became.
It is highly annoying when you go on youtube and see people making videos on why they hate bakubro and the only valid point is that he USE TO BE a bully. Along with "he has no character development" or "he is too loud" bruh. Srsly. If he has no character development then I'm beyoncé. 💀
I prefer just scroll it all bc there is no escape apparently.
They’re blind if really think Kats has no character development, bc excuse me, this boy has the most amazing character development in this manga.
Same ppl seem to be ok with Deku saving Shigaraki (who literally killed tons of ppl) but Katsuki is awful bc his said smth mean ONCE.
Ok. I don’t care. I have this space and my wonderful mutuals to enjoy Hori’s work, respecting it and cheering for my boys.

This is so fucking precious!!!! Hawks cuts off BJ trying to talk shop to:
- coming out as an Endeavor fanboy and noting his deep disappointment
- check in with Shouto - if he’s really ok, if Endeavor gave him the scar (zero pussyfooting) while giving the absolute stink-eye to Endeavor (like I’ll skewer you if you hurt this precious baby) - so can we can the abuse-apologist BS now???
- Shouto’s complete shut-down (so close!!!! haha - Hero crush confirmed)
- Rei knowing that Shouto won’t out her and basically just taking responsibility. She’s so fucking done with lying and pretending and secrets (and Shouto’s face realizing that the press is likely to ask the same question )
- Hawks moment of self-reflection and then this:
I almost cried. Hawks called Shouto super-cool. His dad is disgraced, his brother is a notorious criminal, his family is dragged through the mud, but Hawks finds him supercool. (Also he’s very close…)
