I am living for the parallels between Jude and Suren and how they each respond to Cardan/Oak being obviously in love with them.

They're both like "He hates me so much. Every nice thing he says is clearly a trick and he's trying to manipulate me. He looks at me like that because of how much he hates me."

Meanwhile Cardan and Oak are being the the most obvious simps in all of existence and the only ones who don't notice are the people they're simping for.

Thinking about how Cardan loves like a mortal, not like a fae. Thinking about this line in Wicked King: “I have heard that for mortals, the feeling of falling in love is very like the feeling of fear.”

What Cardan said to Jude before their first kiss: “You are terrifying.” And the way he’s always smirking or mockingly smiling around her because he smiles when he’s nervous.

thinking about how cardan stole jude’s ring by kissing the back of her hand.

how he stole it only to wear it himself, keeping it on him at all times.

how the only reason he gave it back to her, was so that she could wear it as his wife.

I love how Jude kissed Cardan the first time with the intention of humiliating him. this guy pushed her into a lake, kicked dirt in her food, did little to nothing when she was high on faerie fruit, and now he reveals it was cuz he has a crush on her and hates himself for it. And her knee-jerk response is to shame him by making out with him so he can feel how badly he wants her and how embarrassed he should be by it. It’s almost too girlboss to wrap my head around. And then she accidentally enjoys kissing him so whoopsie

what i like about cardan is that he’s Not Like Other YA Love Interests but, like, in a good way. he isn’t huge and muscular and overwhelmingly powerful and strong. he’s kind of a loser. he’s endearingly pathetic. things rarely ever go his way. he isn’t the top alpha dog that commands the pack, he’s more like that one lonely dog in the corner who licks his paws and whines and makes you feel bad for him. jude didn’t want him because he was this godlike, all-powerful guy, she wanted him because he’s a sad pretty boy who likes to drink wine and say poetic things about her and be kind of useless at times. he’s a very refreshing love interest. i wish we had more cardans in fantasy books!

Cardan's tail wrapping around Jude's leg when they kiss like he just can't be close enough to her is everything

"We stagger against the wall, and I pull his body to mine. My fingers glide up under his shirt, tracing up his spine to the wings of his shoulder blades. His tail lashes back and forth, the furred end stroking over the back of my calf. He shudders and presses more tightly against me, deepening the kiss."

and then she's overwhelmed by the sensation of wanting him so badly (bc like... duh, we get it girl) and Cardan pulls away

"I feel overheated and out of control. That thought cuts through everything else, and I freeze. He releases me immediately, letting me down and then stepping back as though scalded. 'We need not--' he begins..."

This is just so.damn.important and in a YA series too?? >>>

Cardan really thought about Jude, often, it was disgusting but he couldn't stop. pricked her finger to bring her to her senses, gifted her one of the most beautiful dresses ever, looked for her while his family was getting murdered, crawled after her, kissed her at knife point (a moment among many that he remembered as romantic), fucked an alliance just to get her back, MARRIED HER (let's not talk about that exile rn), went into an enemy war camp for her. Also, did I mention his LETTERS??? And that he ALWAYS. KNEW. HER!!!? Honestly, it is disgusting how much I think about HIM. Often. And I can't stop.
