Deanna’s Tumbler is now a blog/journal for Brand Design, Interactive design and BookLab at CU Boulder.
In BD1 we studied an existing Travel Brand and made up our own Travel Brands based on a classmate/partner's last experience traveling. This was a good way to come up with an idea for solving a problem common to travelers. My project is a small business world hub for entrepreneurs and investors to get to know each other on a multi-lingual platform. It would integrate duo-lingo as interpretation software and encourage the learning of another language for those who are interested in this feature.
In BD II we studied an existing brand and a design movement or artist and are partnering with another classmate in making up our own brands in order to learn the process of Branding a product from start to finish. The brand is required to use the sense of smell to sell and cannot be a food item. My partner and I will market Bed & bath gift items with soap. We are researching and gathering materials for an actual product to be completed in 2 weeks.
in BookLab we practiced creating shapes in Illustrator using a partner's image to create an avatar. Mine is named Maria. Maria made an even "cooler" Avatar of me that i now use as my Slack profile.

On Pearl Street and the street corners of Boulder you see these signs of social disparity in Boulder County. This is an infographic with numbered landmarks of panhandlers in 2016. Hover your mouse over the numbered markers to see each individual with my first impression.

Cricket’s Darkroom is a darker neon version of some other pages at webwirepub.com. Cricket is is a character from the short animated video titled “Outside My Window”, here he catches a train as it passes by and rides off into the dreamworld. Well, he ends up in Cricket’s Darkroom jumping and posing in different sections to point out existing works and works to come.
This page uses Mootools JavaScript navigation, it has an unexpected multi-directional scrolling effect which is fun to navigate. The cricket .gif’s were created in Photoshop, The blue cricket was first, you may notice a difference between the blue version and the green, the green one is tweened between frames and appears to have more realistic movements. Other webart effects here include rollover buttons, a modified favicon and videos. The animated cricket will be fun to add to to different pages throughout the main site as well.

Digital Art is more dynamic than I thought. It’s great to know the classic Net Artists are still here. We are covering net art in class and found this Birth of the Net video on theageofmammals.com.

Inspired by crickets, trains, and morning birds (up next). As you may have guessed, these are the sounds outside my window. It is intended to be a series, adding to this one or changing out the style. Will rework the cricket. Will also tone down the busy background and maybe enlarge the train and the cricket + add a more complex interaction.
Plan to explore 3-d animation soon.
The train sound is my original, the cricket was appropriated. The background and images were edited in Photoshop first, then Premiere for the title and transitions. I had some difficulty with After Effects due to conflicting versions on my machine. Although I have used Flash and Premiere before, I am still a newbie with it. This was good practice.
Things I experienced difficulty with regarding the video process in Premiere and Flash included frame rates per second (this is set to 30), make sure the project settings and the incoming video are a match. And don’t accidentally use CS5 and CC at the same time.

Outside My Window, Fall 2016 from Deanna Andru on Vimeo.
Inspired by crickets, trains, and morning bird sounds. As you may have guessed, the sounds outside my window are the inspiration. My Window is dated, it is intended to be a series, possibly adding to this one or changing out the style. I posterized the photos for this project and the coloring is a bit much for a background and takes away from the cricket. Will rework the cricket. Will also tone down the busy background and maybe enlarge the train and the cricket. Plan to explore 3-d animation soon.

Hey I forgot to mention the Open Studio at CU. I checked out the screen print lab and talked to some of the artists here in iMap. They are working on some cool interactive digital stuff. The candy was good too. :)

As an update to my nonneutonian fluid experiment, this was my goal, but I don’t think the transducer was “bouncy” like this - The Slow Mo Guys are great.
