So, I went to a Halfway to Halloween event today.
One of the sellers had wet specimens, and honestly they are some of the most beautiful work I’ve seen for them.
I honestly wish I’d had the money for one of the snake globes. They’re gorgeous.
She also had several other things on the table. One looked like a perfume bottle with a fetal opossum specimen in it?
And then this stand:
The top two shelves are octopi, the third down has two ball python specimens, two sharks, and kittens, and the last one is sharks.
All of her materials were humanely sourced.
I actually asked about how she gets her specimens. The octopi and sharks come from a deep sea fisher, and rather than make those specimens into chum, her supplier delivers them to her.
The kittens, for example are from her grandmother who works as a vet. They’re often stillborn kittens, or from people who bring in strays or their pets to get spayed, unaware that they were pregnant.
Or, it’s an animal that died naturally. She showed me one that was a persian that had had a respiratory infection and had passed away.
She doesn’t have an etsy, but she does have an instagram at TaintedlilTreasures.
I was told she also does some sales at the end of the month to clear out stock when she has too many.
But I had to share these!

After cleaning him up a bit (and I’m 90% sure this is indeed a he) I can see that the new skull is actually in not-great shape. I don’t mind so much, though; I kind of like having the rougher pieces.

I finished cleaning my roadkill skunk and was absolutely shocked to see the state of his teeth and jaws! All of his canines were broken and he had infection in many of his teeth, all throughout his jaws, and even at the front of his brain cavity. He must have been in incredible pain, poor little man.

Every bone tells a story and this polar bear skull has a crazy story!
Check out the insane, healed, broken jaw! The back of this mandible was obliterated into several pieces that had to grow back together.
This old injury seems to have caused a lot of bone remodeling and deformation along this side of the jaw. It is impossible to tell what exactly caused this injury but losing a fight with another polar bear is definitely a possibility.
This specimen has been added to the Prehistoria Natural History Centre (#PNHC) collection and is not for sale.

Have you ever seen a two-faced goat skeleton?? I’m super excited for this specimen to arrive at the Prehistoria Natural History Centre (#PNHC)!
The goat was stillborn in Ontario, Canada (and the taxidermy mount is currently on display) so we commissioned our good friend Joey Williams to articulate the skeleton.
This beautiful skeleton will be going on display in the next couple of weeks!
