German Comedy Show from the 90s: "Kentucky Schreit Ficken"

This was a comedy show with short sketches in which the comedians swapped the first letters of words to make dirty jokes. (tw (?): one of the comedians pretends to be really camp)

The title "Kentucky Schreit Ficken" is a word play on "Kentucky Fried Chicken", but with the swapped first letters, it means "Kentucky screams fucking" in German.

One of the comedians would often ask someone to come to the counter by saying "Darf ich Sie an die Beke titten?". Normally, it's "Darf ich Sie an die Theke bitten", but by swapping the letters, the last word turns into the German word for 'tits'.

Sometimes he would also say "Jetzt werd' ich aber bächtig möse!" which is normally "mächtig böse" (-> "very mad") but by swapping the letters the last word basically turns into a German equivalent to "cunt".

At the end of the sketches, one of the comedians sometimes says "Das haben sie aber gefickt eingeschädelt". Normally, it's "geschickt eingefädelt" (-> "cleverly done") which turns into "fucked in-skulled" (which doesn't make any sense, but there's a funny swear word!).

You can watch a lot of these clips on YouTube, but they talk quite fast and make so many swaps that even us native Germans have to really wrap our brains around some of these jokes.

The German TV channel ARD is filming loads of German fairy tales and uploading them for free on their website!

Most of them are just 60 minutes long.

The films are in German with German subtitles and they even offer some versions with audio description and German Sign Language (DGS)!

I'll be honest, I don't really watch that many German movies or series and no German Youtubers at all, so here are just a few suggestions that I personally enjoy or that I know about. But there are many many more that I just haven’t seen or don’t know about.

I'm also not sure if you can find all of these movies/series/TV shows everywhere or if they are only available in Germany, so you might have to do a bit of googling.

German Movie/TV Show Recommendations:

These are some of my favourite German movies and TV shows:

Fack Ju Göhte 1, 2 & 3

Türkisch für Anfänger (the movie)

Groupies bleiben nicht zum Frühstück (my favourite rom-com)

Hui Buh (a children’s film about a ghost)

Drei Haselnüsse für Aschenbrödel (this is a Cinderella movie from the 70s which my family always watches around Christmas. It's technically not German (it was filmed in Germany and the Czech Republic and I think the original is in Czech), but it was dubbed into German, although the language/way of speaking is quite old and maybe hard to understand for German learners)

Männer wie wir (a movie about a gay boy who gets kicked out of his football team after coming out to them & then tries to make his own football team with other gay men to prove to his old team that him being gay does not influence his football skills (this movie is from 2004, so not the most ‘progressive’, but I still quite liked it)

TV shows:

Last One Laughing (with Michael Bully Herbig and loads of German comedians)

Queer Eye Germany (I think there's only 1 season) on Netflix

TVtotal (Bobfahren, Crash Car Challenge, Turmspringen, Autofußball, etc.), Schlag den Raab, Raab in Gefahr, Schlag den Star, Joko und Klaas: Duell um die Welt, Joko und Klaas gegen Pro7 (basically anything with Joko and Klaas, and Stefan Raab) -> you can find most of these on Youtube, I know that Joko und Klaas and TVtotal have their own Youtube channels where they upload their most recent shows (Stefan Raab unfortunately 'retired' a few years ago, so the videos with him might be a bit older)

99 - Eine:r schlägt sie alle

Knallerfrauen (a comedy show by Martina Hill; I think you can find most of the sketches on Youtube)

But there are also thousands of movies, TV shows, and books that were dubbed/translated into German. So if you have a favourite show, movie, or book, just google if it has a German version and watch that (e.g. Harry Potter, Game of Thrones, all Disney/Pixar movies, Avatar, Lord of the Rings, etc.).

i like the phrases "it's not for me," "it's not my thing," and "i'm not the target audience" because they're the most concise way to express "this thing that you enjoy has merits but idgaf about it" without being aggressive
