This is a tiny detail but one instance of the DCU racism was in Young Justice (yeah, a lot of terrible things, but this is one I've never seen people talking about) was the fact that they turned Tye's eyes blue. His eyes were brown/black before he got his powers and then, once he had powers and was on screen more, his eyes were light blue
hey thanks for this!

Writing Characters Who Stutter.
@indidoughnuts asked:
Any advice on writing a character who talks with a stutter?
We’re both in luck here, because one of the main characters in my spring novel, We Are, We Are Monsters, has a slight stutter, and they say there’s no better way to truly learn something then to teach it!
Fore note: Because I have no firsthand experience in stuttering, this article draws heavily from a number of reliable sources, which will be all cited throughout.
What is a stutter? A speech disorder, also known as stammering or diffluent speech. It generally includes some variation of repeated words, sounds, or syllables, halted speech mid-sentence, and an uneven rate of speech. [1]
1. Choose specific rules for your character’s stutter and stick with them.
If you’re going to portray stutter that’s both realistic and readable, you’ll need to know how and on what sounds your character stutters, and then stick to them. Choose specific sounds to employ the stutter on (Gabrielle Massman recommends between three and seven [3]), and familiarize yourself with the three basic forms of stuttering [2]:
Repetitions of sounds or syllables; “Li-li-like this” or “Like-like-like this.”
Prolongations; “Llllllllike this.”
Blocks; “L—ike this.”
You can hear recordings of each of these stutters here. [5]
Once you know which sounds your character stutters on and how that stuttering primarily comes out, you’ll want to decide on how you’ll portray the stutter through writing. You can find a few forms of this in the above examples. Other possibilities include using ellipses or commas:

Absolutely small thing. But honestly in comics and what not, whenever villains has love interests or women on the side, assistants and what not. They are so rarely women of color. Comics have been default white a long time especially since a lot of these villains are very old characters.
And I only mention this because Eve Karlo is a beautiful black woman. Which is already a fascinating nod to Basil Karlo👀 But she is also a regular with Oz. He calls her his lady friend they seem to know each other well have probably been a client for a long while.
And I can't think of any mainstream villains who have dated/seen a woman of color (that isn't niche or just super recent I have fallen behind on comics) I can be wrong but as a comic fan for so long and a bipoc person it just passed in my mind.
Of course Oz likes her she's absolutely gorgeous he'd be stupid not to. But Gotham can and should be a diverse city. Not that it isn't but so often the old art deco aesthetic makes us think of whiteness consciously or not. People even had issue with Commissioner Gordon being black. But if we look at marginalized people in a place like Gotham a LOT are gonna be people of color.
It's such a small thing. But I see it and feel affirmed. Especially with somebody like Oz. Older white man coming from mob culture. Which is very territorial and xenophobic (to other gangs or outsiders) at least in aesthetic. But Oz understands the struggle. He's in the same boat as them. He sees himself in Vic whose actor is Dominican.
Maybe this is all my own incredibly biased reaching. But the people Oz trusts now are all bipoc. Big roles are being played by them. They matter to the story and who they are adds more depth to the world and realism. Especially for somebody like the penguin who is usually some rich old money british prick.
I'm not even sure where I'm going with this post but it makes me happy. For so long these things have been made to feel like "diversity pandering" when in reality it's just the world. And maybe to a white audience they wouldnt think much of Oz seeing a black woman or taking an afro latino kid under his wing (penguin joke heh)
That matters to the rest of us. And even if not a big deal I feel a great deal of comfort but also a deeper understanding of who Oz is
