Process & Practice
A new exhibit is coming to the main gallery!
Process & Practice comprises painting, drawing, sculpture, and mixed media installations and assemblages. Both the diverse and interrelated practices of each artist lend themselves to the unique notion of a collective. Noting the physical, mental, social, psychological, and spiritual processes of each artist, the exhibition motivates the work to reveal its origins, ultimately prompting the viewer to move beyond what they simply see.
Presented by Sparkplug, DCAC’s Artist Collective.

Kevin Peterson’s “Sovereign” at Thinkspace Gallery.
Opening Saturday, August 20th at Thinkspace Gallery in Culver City, California is artist Kevin Peterson’s fantastic looking solo show “Sovereign.”
The Houston-based painter is known for his hyperrealistic works in which urban sprawls and rough city landscapes are offset by innocent subjects. Children and wild animals peacefully coexist as complicit companions in the detritus of stark urban environments. The poetic staging of these unexpected oppositions visually elicits powerful psychological themes. Recurring concepts continue to surface in Peterson’s work, like the perpetuity of change in self and environment, the navigation of personal trauma and loss, and solitude and the pursuit of companionship.
“Sovereign” is on display until September 10th, 2016.

JR in Rio.
For the 2016 Olympics, French artist JR created three huge installations in Rio before opening ceremonies.  Created from scaffolding and semi-transluscent material, the installations feature high-jumper Mohamed Younes Idress and swimmer Léonie Periault.  Both of these athletes did not qualify for the 2016 Olympics and JR explains them as icons of hope, “people working hard for the passion of sport.”

Photo of the Day: A Bath of Pain
Edited photographer caption: Manjal Neerattu is a ritual followed by the people of Chengannur, Kerala, at the Vandimala temple. After boiling water mixed with turmeric powder, they use palm leaves to whip their bodies with the concoction. The process is said to purify the mind and body. It’s beautiful – and messy.
