1099 CE, First Crusade - the siege of Jerusalem ends when the Crusaders breach its walls, wresting control from the Fatimid Caliphate. Nicky and Joe, obviously, met here

1228, Sixth Crusade - an oil painting depicts a battle between two mounted knights, probably Nicky and Joe

“Marry Me,” Jason says throwing himself into the chair across from Roy’s hastily.

Roy removes his goggles sitting the sawdering tool in his hands down. “And a good evening, to you too, Jaybird,” he chuckles.

“Yeah, hi. Listen, marry me,” Jason says again.

“Okay, Jay,” Roy says with a snicker looking down at the arrows he’s been toying with.

“No I’m serious,” Jason says and he actually sounds it. Roy looks back up at him, his eyebrows raised. “Jason Todd, not Red Hood was caught on camera leaving a warehouse that proceeded to explode moments after I exited. Cause, you know I blew it up.”

Some days it has to be wondered if Jason Todd staying legally dead would have been the better option. Can’t be a wanted man if you don’t exist.  

“But we-“

“Disabled all the cameras?” Jason says with a sigh. “Yeah, no we missed one, a dashcam from a car across the street.”

“Shit,” Roy says throwing down the arrow looking to the side. It takes him a moment, but another bad thought hits him. “Oh shit, shit Roy Harper was also on camera fucking waiting for you across the street.”

Canon things that we should not let fall into obscurity:

• Dick was an excellent basketball player and played on the school team

• Dick plays both the guitar AND the accordion

• Jason had a pet dog when he was itty bitty. The dog's name was Sparky

• Tim is a skater. He skateboards and is pretty damn good at it, both as Tim and Robin

• Tim and Bruce both like The Clash. Alfred is Britishly Offended by their music

•Jason loved books as a kid. To support this, Bruce had a mini library built right in his bedroom

•Alfred and Bruce collected first edition books ever since Bruce was a little kid. It's implied this tradition was also carried on with Bruce and Jason

•Damian steals items from his brothers. He's stolen a helmet from Jason, escrima sticks from Dick, possibly one of Tim's bo staffs and I'm 75% sure he's stolen one of his father's cowls

•Barry Allen's real name for a time was Barrence Allen.

•Tim was a boarding school kid. He spent the first half of his life in boarding schools and didn't go to a semi normal school until he moved in with Bruce and went to Gotham Academy.

I'm sick of people making all these characters so 1 dimensional.

~Percy isn't just the Son of Poseidon, this confident, leader and hero. He isn't super confident and charming around Annabeth. He's still kind of nervous and awkward sometimes. He's not always as confident as we think he is. He just acts like it sometimes. He is SMART. Percy is so incredibly smart and people just forget about it, making it seem like Annabeth has to help him with everything and she's always the one thinking of the plans. Percy is also not always sassy. Sure he has his sassy moments, but we definitely over exaggerate it. He also has a lot of pain. His step-father ab*sed both him and his mother for years. Sally was working multiple jobs, always trying to make sure they had enough. Percy got kicked out of almost every school he went to.

~Annabeth isn't just 'The smart one'. She is incredible in battle. She has so many skills- She also has ADHD. She probably had those insane thoughts and hyper fixations too but everyone always makes those memes where Percy says something that radiates ADHD energy and she’s like, 'shut up'. People always seem to forget that she also had dyslexia. We never really talked about it after the first book but she, like most other demigods had ADHD and Dyslexia. Annabeth, like Percy also has a lot of pain. She ran away from her home (because of her step-mom), she met Thalia and Luke and eventually lost them both at some point. Thalia left and joined the hunters and Luke being gone. Annabeth (especially in the first books) was pretty b*tchy as well. She was mean and rude to Percy, Rachel and others. We always seem to gloss over the small things like that because she's one of the main characters and we seem to view them differently than they actually are.

~ Jason isn't just a boring Roman. He's not boring- people just think he's a knock off Roman version of Percy, that's why they think he's boring. The fact is he's a completely different character, he's not just overly sensible. The fandom just views him as an overly sensible guy and Percy's bro. Sure they're great friends and have a great bond but let's remember, Grover is Percy's best friend and Leo is Jason's. He also was raised completely in the Roman Camp from a very very young age, all the way until the events of HoO. He's also not just a leader. Just because he's the Son of Jupiter, doesn't mean he's automatically leader material. Same goes with Percy, just because they're the children of the 'Big Three'.

~Leo isn't just 'funny'. Don't you guys remember, he makes jokes to hide the pain from past trauma. Sometimes all the fandom does is show him as funny/dumb when in reality he is hurt and he is SUPER intelligent. Leo is actually genius- like all these inventions and projects he's done? He's the first demigod in a while that has that amount of intelligence and skill with that stuff besides maybe Beckendorf. He's not just the goofy kid we all think of him as. He's serious about his work and serious when he needs to be.

~ Hazel. The fandom always views her and Frank as being these cuddly, sweet cinnamon rolls all the time. Hazel is literally so BAD*SS I don't know what y'all are talking about--when she was at school, the nuns washed her mouth out with soap over stuff she said. She's not just sweet and innocent, she was bullied for her race, she left her only friend behind, and died saving the world when she was only 13. She can control the FREAKING MIST- that's pretty epic. Honestly, to me she's more powerful than Nico Di Angelo.

~Frank. HE IS NOT JUST A SWEET CINNAMON ROLL. Frank is literally the sweetest but out of all the seven, to me He and Hazel are the most bad*ss. He single handedly defeated hundreds of monsters, saved his friends COUNTLESS times, and he became Praetor in THE MIDDLE OF A BATTLE- he is so incredibly over-powered, his life was tied to a piece of wood. Imagine being so powerful you had your life line tied to a piece of fire wood. Son of Mars and descendant of Poseidon. People need to appreciate him more.

Okay I got a question for you, resident Batfam Expert! I’ve been reading a lot of fanfic recently (because I love pain) and I was wondering how many of the pet names the family calls each other are canon? Because they have A LOT and they’re all pretty consistent throughout the writings. Some of the ones I’ve noted regularly are Baby Bird, Little Wing, Jay, Jaylad, Jace, Timmers, Timbo, Dickie, Dickiebird, and then Bruce calling his kids ‘sweetheart’. (Adorable) Anyway, thanks! Don’t feel a need to rush in answering :) I’m in no hurry

Sorry it took me so long to get to all of these, I’ve spent the last few weeks scrounging up every single resource I could get my hands on so that I could make a comprehensive list of which nicknames are canon and which are fanon and it took a SUPER long time. The bottom line is I ended up accidentally making a whole-ass Google Slides for every single batkid nickname, and while the whole project isn’t anywhere near finished yet, I managed to complete the slides needed to answer all of these questions. So...yeah! Here’s what I found:

Dickie/Dickie-Bird:

Jason seems to be the main nickname-user of the family, so aside from the aforementioned comics, there isn’t very much content of Dick being called “Dickie” or “Dickie-Bird”. (I also want to bring up “Big Bird,” which I see Jason calling Dick sometimes in fanfics. That one’s not canon anywhere, unfortunately.) Dick used to be called “Dickie” sometimes as a term of endearment during his circus days, but after that it’s not likely you’ll see any of his family members calling him something other than Dick. 

Little Wing:

Sadly, “Little Wing” hasn’t been used in any canon content after this comic, which is a major bummer since the fandom has turned it into one of Jason’s most popular nicknames (from Dick at least).

Jay/Jace/Jaylad/Jaybird:

(I didn’t list the comic sources for the more widely used nicknames since they’re so common in comics that you could find them pretty much anywhere.) 

I’d say that Bruce called Jason “Jay” far more during his Robin days than he does now, though that could be attributed to their more distant relationship nowadays. (Or maybe I just didn’t happen to read the specific modern comics in which he called Jason “Jay” or “Jace/Jase”.)

Yeahhh, sorry about this one. “Jaylad” is kind of the Schrödinger's cat of nicknames. The fandom ended up misconstruing the term over time. and losing the comma between “Jay” and “lad” so it became “Jaylad” and everyone just stuck with it.

The main person who seems to use this one is Roy Harper, as I haven’t yet found a comic in which one of Jason’s family members calls him “Jaybird”. You can open pretty much any comic with both Jason and Roy in it and expect Roy to say it at least once.

Timmy/Timbers/Timbo:

I haven’t seen anyone calling Tim “Timmers” in canon, but otherwise, most of the other common nicknames derived from Timothy are canon.

Pretender/Replacement:

I always found it wild how Jason never once called Tim “Replacement” in a comic, and yet we all managed to latch onto it anyway and make it his go-to nickname for Tim? That takes some dedication, man. Otherwise, Jason called Tim “Pretender” a few times during Batman: Hush, and that was about it. 

Baby Bird/Baby Bat:

I know a lot of people hate the nickname “Babybird” (for whatever reason), but honestly, I’m really hoping that DC makes it a thing because dammit, we deserve this breadcrumb at least. As of right now, the only batkid who has ever been called “Babybird” was Damian, and it was by his mom. (In fanon, it’s typically Tim who is called “Babybird” while Dick is “Dickie-Bird” and Jason is “Little Wing”. Who decided this, I have no idea but I’m not complaining.) I also included “Baby Bat” since I see that one pretty often too, and that one is sadly not canon either. The DC writers really don’t want us getting our hands on any family fluff whatsoever, huh.

As for Bruce, I don’t think he’s ever called his kids a term of endearment more emotional than “son” or “pal” because he has the emotional capacity of a dried-up raisin. All of those nicknames like “sweetheart,” “honey,” “pumpkin,” and any other names a parent might call their child are banned from Batman’s dictionary as far as the writers are concerned. Will that make me stop having Bruce call his kids “sweetheart” in my fics every chance I get? Absolutely not.
