"Nephew." Dax replied, sharing a smile with Jacob. "And yes." He nodded. "The potions are wonderful. And I am feeling much better. My brother, Max, he also prepares me some tea that's helpful as well. He's decided to study naturopathy here in Chicago." He offered, always happy to speak of his brothers.
Dax closed his eyes, enjoying the closeness he shared with Jacob. More than he ever enjoyed anything before. It was nice. And he couldn't help but wonder how he'd ever survived without it before. Dax hummed softly as Jacob spoke. The words about their future together gave him such hope. And it was a truly wondrous feeling. "I do not care what the future entails..." He told Jacob softly, opening his eyes so he could look at him. "As long as I am here. With you. I need not, nor care not for anything more." He wrinkled his nose about the being adopted part. "Oh goodness. That'll likely cause quite a stir."
"It does?" Thorn asked, glancing back down at the shirt that went all the way to his knees. When Austin approached him, he flushed a little, dropping his eyes. The kiss to his cheek felt nice though, and he smiled at it. When Austin offered him his hand, Thorn took it with no hesitation. He allowed Austin to lead him out of the safety of the bedroom and into the unknown.
He found Jacob and Dax curled up against each other on the couch. And he blinked at them curiously, then back up at Austin. Wondering if that were something he'd be doing with Austin in the future. Things were still very up in the air right now after all. But Thorn liked to think he'd want things like that with Austin. Then something tingled in him, and he peered back around Austin at them. "Oh!" He cried, leaving Austin's side to move over to the two on the couch. He stared first at Jacob, then at Dax and threw his hands up. "Well NO!" He cried, flailing his fists. "No no no! That's all wrong!"
Dax who at first had been flabbergasted stiffened at that. "Excuse me?"
Thorn gestured wildly at Dax. "There's only one baby in there!" He said accusingly. "Only one! You are one of THREE! Therefore THREE should be what you will have! Didn't anyone ever teach you about that? The number of three?" Then he turned towards Jacob, having decided he was far more to blame for this than Dax was. "Moonfog's are extremely fertile. You know? So explain to me how you could only knock him up with one baby? Are your sperm on holiday or something?"
Dax sputtered indignantly. "We are not!"
"You ARE!" Thorn wailed, flailing his fists wildly. "Why else do you think everyone in faerie was so outraged that your parents merely sold you off to the Queen? However were you going to make babies there? Honestly!"
Dax was furious, angrily scrambling away from Jacob and stumbling to his feet. "You must be a Starling then. Aren't you?" He demanded.
Thorn's eyes were locked on Dax's belly. Wanting to cry because it was so small. How ever would the poor baby survive in there? "I can fix it." Thorn said, wanting to step in closer to Dax, but having more self preservation than that. "I can give you three."
Dax went suddenly very pale. And dropped to the floor. Out cold.
Austin beamed back at Dax when he finally met his eyes and smiled. He wasn't expecting the other Fae to walk up and give him a kiss on the cheek and thank him though and he flushed for a moment. "You never have to thank me. You're important to Jake so that makes you important to me." He grins "Got to make sure my niece or nephew is healthy right? How have you been feeling? Are the potions I gave you helping?" He asks with a hint of concern despite his smile.
Jacob smiles as Dax laces their fingers together over his belly. He pulls him closer as they waited for Austin and his mystery Fae to show up. He had caught a quick glimpse at Thorn the day they killed Malachi but his attention had been elsewhere so he never really got a good look. "Austin likes you too. You don't have to be embarassed though, babe. Austin is good at his job and would never judge anyone who comes to him for help, no matter what it is." He said resting his head against the other man's "I know it's going to take some getting used to but I think things are going to be better from now on. We've got each other, you're working on the bonds with your brothers, they even have their own new flames starting. You are all finally getting the happy ending you all deserve and gaining a large support system in the process. It will take time to accept it all but I promise we are all here for you." He says before chuckling "Just don't be surprised if David and Magnus try to adopt the three of you. They seem to have a knack for adopting people who deserve a family."
Austin averts his eyes when he heard Thorn squeak and start to cover up. "I'm not looking. I promise I won't look at you like that until you say it's alright to do so." He says before turning around when he was sure Thorn was decent before chuckling when Thorn realized he was wearing his shirt. "It's ok, sweetheart. You can wear any of my clothes you want to. It actually looks really cute on you." He grins at the other man before walking over. "Don't be nercous. Jacob and Dax are good people. They are going to love you." He said kissing his cheek before offering his hand to Thorn to take.

Dax brightened at the scent of baking pizza. He hadn't even realized he was hungry. But now, he apparently was. Finally able to meet Austin's eyes, he gave him a warm smile. He hadn't officially thanked him for helping him that night. So he let go of Jacob's hand to move closer to Austin, going up on his toes to press a kiss to his cheek. "Thank you...for....well....for everything really." He told him, before shying back to Jacob's side.
Thorn had just gotten out of the shower and pulled one a shirt before Austin came into the room. He let out a startled squeak and flailed about pulling on random clothing as if to shield himself. By the time he finished he was panting with exertion and quite pink in the face. But it was then he realized he'd put on Austin's shirt, and not his shirt. "Oh...NO!" He cried in horror.
After a panicked moment, he remembered why Austin came into the room in the first place. He brushed his wet bangs back from his face and peered curiously at him. "Oh..." He glanced down at himself again. "Um...yes?" He squeaked.
Dax sighed happily, snuggling closer to Jacob on the couch. He covered the hand resting on his belly, curling their fingers together. "I like Austin." He said. Because he did. "I'm just...embarrassed I guess. I haven't...you know it was only Max who did docterly things for a while." He explained. "Things are different here. Then they were in faerie."
Austin had just gotten done putting the homemade pizza that Thorn helped him with, his uncle's recipe of course, in the oven when there was a knock at the door. Austin smiles, taking off his apron before going to answer the door. "Hey you guys, I just put the pizza in the oven. Come in come in." He grins at them both. "It's nice to see you again, Dax. You seem to be glowing more since the last time I saw you. It's a nice look." He says with a smile as he leads them inside.
Jacob smiles at his best friend and platonic soulmate as he greets them both. "Thanks for inviting us. I wasn't sure if this week was still on or not all things considered." He smiles as he gives Dax's hand a gentle squeeze of reassurance.
"Dude it's been a tradition since we met, we are just adding some new people to enjoy it with us this time. Dax, you're welcome here any time. You're practically family now since Jacob is like a brother to me." He grins at them both "You guys get comfortable, I'm just going to go let Thorn know you're here so you can finally meet."
Austin left the living room to head back to his bedroom where Thorn was taking a shower after the mess they made in the kitchen cooking earlier. "Thorn, sweetheart, Jacob and Dax are here. Are you ready to meet them?" He asks his soulmate.
Jacob sat next to Dax on the couch, gently rubbing his back with one hand resting over the barely there swell of his abdomen where their little one was currently growing. "Don't be nervous, babe. Austin is cool people. He is probably one of the least judgey people you'll ever meet even if he has a mean side eye." He chuckles as he kisses his temple and pulls him closer.

Movie Night
Dax relaxed into the seat of Jacob's car as he drove. His fingers idly drummed over his stomach to the sound of the radio. They were going to see Austin for movie night. Which, Dax generally didn't go to. But since everything had happened with Malachi, Dax was less inclined to be without Jacob for long. And so it seemed Jacob shared the sentiment.
Jacob also shared that Austin met someone. Someone who had apparently been there the day Malachi died. And Dax felt oddly sheepish about having not even known other people had been there.
When they arrived, and Austin opened the door to greet them, Dax ducked his head to hide the flush in his cheeks. He hadn't spoken to Austin since that night they'd bombarded him with Dax's episode. But Dax had also never been shy, so he didn't try to hide from him. Just sort of...felt uneasy. "Hi..." He said softly, holding tight to Jacob's hand.

Dax squeezed his eyes closed. Just focusing on Jacob. The sound of his comforting voice. The feel of his lips against his skin. The understanding of Jacob’s emotions. Like they were his own. The fear was so faint now. Now that Jacob was here. Now that he was pressed against him. Everything was fading away. Everything but Jacob. Then, the baby’s heart beat. Dax whined. Because everything was so overwhelming to him.
Jacob’s tears were like an aphrodisiac. His kisses so tender. Dax knew then that there would be no one else. No one but Jacob for him. He’d never give himself to anyone else ever again. Dax wanted to gaze up lovingly at Jacob. But when his love told him to look. He did look. “Our baby.” He said softly, snuggling in closer to Jacob.
Dax faded in and out of reality. He saw them. Dax and Jacob. With their little boy. Jacob was suited for a little boy. He could help him grow strong. He’d be full blood. Of the seelie court. Dax could see him so clearly in his mind. Tousled black hair. Green eyes. Perfect in every way. Dax made a soft sound. Barely paying attention as Austin handed things to Jacob. Vile after vile. Dax frowned. An irrational tingle of fear reflected in his eyes. He was to take that? But Jacob calmly took them. Like it was okay.
“Jacob?” He asked. Voice heavy with uncertainty. But then Austin spoke directly to him, and he tried to focus on what he was saying. But there was so much noise in his head. He gave up trying, pressing his cheek against Jacob’s chest. His eyes though, were on Austin. A question in them.
Jacob could feel how uncomfortable his soulmate was, kissing his head as he sends him some soothing emotions through their bond. "I promise everything is going to be alright." He murmured, scooting a little closer when he felt his fear spike at seeing the ultrasound machine. "I promise he's not going to hurt you or the baby. They use that so that they can see the baby better, so we can see the baby. Lets let him do it, ok?" He says helping Dax pull his shirt up.
"Thank you, Dax. I promise this won't take long." Austin says softly. "This is going to be a little cold but it won't hurt." He says as he squirts the jelly on and the sound of their baby's heartbeat filled the room. "There they are, very strong heartbeat. I don't see anything wrong internally. He's growing quite well. He's still a little thing but nothing to worry about this early on." He says "You're going to get cramps and a little spotting while your body adjusts to the pregnancy, thats normal even for women. Some can be pretty painful for men since biologically we don't usually carry children, but I wouldn't worry too much unless you start like gushing blood. The nausea is normal too, it's just letting you know the baby is healthy but I can give you something for it. Mason made a few elixirs that work wonders on male carriers." He says taking some photos. "Theres not much to see yet but would you like to see your little guy?" Austin smiles, turning the screen to them and pointing to the little bean in the middle.

He closed his eyes when he felt Jacob's lips press against him. The affection so needed in that moment, because Dax was so beyond being terrified anymore. But he could focus on Jacob. And the feel of the skin of his hand that held his. When he felt his love moving closer to him, he moved to meet him there. Melding against him. Wanting to somehow disappear into him. Because everything was just too much for Dax to possibly deal with right now. He whined again though, when Jacob murmured to him. It was really pointless. Dax would do anything Jacob asked him to do. No matter what it was. And that knowledge left him feeling a little cold. A little unsure. But, it didn't last long. Because Dax also knew that Jacob was safe. He wouldn't ask for things that wouldn't be good for Dax. He just wouldn't. Dax knew that as well as he knew himself. Placing his hand over Jacob's as it pushed his shirt up, he bit his lip to keep from crying out. He did it though. And knowing that he had sent a shudder of relief through him. Honestly, he hadn't been sure he could.
Dax buried his face against Jacob's arm. Unable to actually watch whatever it was that Austin was doing. The gel was cold against his bare skin and he shivered a little. But then a sound drowned out everything else. It was a rhythmic thumping sound. Fast but...but strong. Dax pulled back from Jacob's side to look questionly at Austin. Who seemed to be smiling at him. Telling him things. About his baby. That the beating sound was his baby. He felt it then. The life beating inside him. He gasped, and his body trembled with it. His baby...no...his and Jacob's baby. Dax just lay there, eyes wide, brimming with unshed tears as Austin rattled things off to him. Or maybe at him. He didn't know. He wasn't tracking all that well still. But the beating sound, it was wrapping around him. Like a blanket. Caressing his skin. Soothing him. Because it was alive. So alive. And whole.
Austin turned the screen he'd been looking at. And Dax wasn't sure what he was looking at, at first. They didn't have such things in faerie. Dax had only known what Max had told him. That the baby was growing. And then that day when he'd actually felt her there. Moving under his palm. His baby. His beautiful one that came to him after a night of so much pain. He'd wanted her. He'd loved her. He spoke to her. Sang to her. Because she was innocent. Always innocent. He never would have treated her as anything less. Despite it all. Dax exhaled and it shuddered through him. Because now, there was something in that void. Something growing. Something with a heart that was beating again. And Dax thought, he might just crumble into dust. The image. A distorted thing. It didn't make much sense to him at first. But as he stared at it. Really stared at it. It started to take form. It wasn't a human form, it was too small for that. Too fragile for that. But he saw him then. His baby. He was there. As real and as vibrant as he could be. Dax melted against Jacob, his body convulsing as he fought to not cry out. He curled against him, needing him more than he'd ever needed anything before. It was true. His baby. Jacob's baby. Was alive. And Dax thought he might just burst.
Dax whined a little at Jacob. Because lying on this bed was not where he wanted to be. But the fact Jacob was there at all soothed him into complacency. He kept his hand tightly grasped to Jacob’s, trying to curl himself around it. But somehow being able to stop himself from doing it.
Dax inhaled sharply at the magical pull in the air. But was able to hold himself together. For now anyway. He wanted to cringe away from Austin. But he hadn’t done anything to him. Not really. He never could trust magic though. Not when it had betrayed him not once but twice. Austin’s voice was soothing. His touch gentle as he’d promised. And Dax found himself trusting him a little more. Not enough for him to release his grip on Jacob. But enough to not curling in on himself again.
The appearance of the machine made him jump. Because he didn’t like that. He tugged on Jacob. Needing him closer before he’d allow that thing anywhere near him. He gave Austin a look rendering a little on hostility. Something he’d always been rather good act. Given who his eldest brother was. “No.” He said with more conviction than he felt. Because he knew he’d let him. Jacob wished it. So it would be.
Jacob felt his heart breaking as his soulmate slipped into a flashback, holding him tightly and whispering words of love to try to get him to come back to him. "Daxie come back, baby. I promise everything is going to be alright. I'm here. I wont let anything happen to you or the baby." He murmurs as he holds him tighter "Come back to me, Daxie, I promise I wont let you die. I won't let the baby." He says as his lover slowly comes out of his flash back. "Thats it, baby, come back to me. Shhh everything is going to be ok." He says softly into his hair.
Tumblr media
Jacob held Dax close, kissing him lovingly as they walked to the garden. "I promise I'll make it all better." He says softly, waving his hand to open the portal he, Joel and Skylar made when they first moved into the house. He stepped through to the Han Clinic to find his platonic soulmate Austin, standing with a worried look. "I'm sorry for waking you up, Tin, but this is Dax, my soulmate. Hes pregnant with our baby and is cramping up really badly. Can you help him?" He says desperately before adding softly "He's had a... Before." Not wanting to say the word miscarraige and trigger Dax again.
Tumblr media
Austin was still a little groggy when Jacob stepped through the portal carrying a petite Fae in his arms that seemed to bring trembling. He explained what was going on, adding that bit at the end which Austin read as miscarriage and a touchy subject. "Noted, I won't mention it." He says before guiding Jacob to lay Dax down and walking over. "Hello Dax, I wish we could have met for the first time under better circumstances but I'm Austin, Jacob's platonic soulmate. Can I touch you and see what's going on here?"

Dax couldn’t see Jacob anymore. But he really didn’t need to. He felt him there. Like a permanent structure in his reality. His soothing voice, the touch of his hand as it gripped Dax’s. It was very real to him. “Jacob…” He whimpered. Wanting so badly to be back in his arms. Pressed against his chest. Feeling the steady beat of his heart. But he wasn’t there. And the cold of steel clinic table seeped through the thin fabric of his shirt, making him shiver uncontrollably.
The kiss to his head brought Jacob back to focus. A little clearer now. A little more solid. Dax could feel the warmth of his body even though he wasn’t touching it. He was close. Close enough to touch him. It did wonders for his focus. Bringing in their current surroundings. The walls of the clinic. So much different from the walls of that hut in faerie. Dax’s eyes lost focus again. More from shear exhaustion than anything else.
A hand touched his shoulder and he wanted to bat it away. But another cramp stole his attention again and he spiraled a bit. Though the weightless spinning lasted only a moment before a fuzzy warmth settled in his limbs. His body feeling heavy, more grounded than before.
Jacob was still speaking. Dax being more aware now could hear the worry in his lover’s voice. He made a whining sound. Wanting, needing to fix it, but being unable to move. The fear was now more like a faint buzzing in his ear. It was still very close, he could almost reach out and touch it. But it wasn’t so much a physical part of him now.
Another voice broke through the haze. A familiar voice. But not one Dax had heard before. The familiarity being from Jacob. Austin? Yes. Jacob had told Dax he was taking him to Austin. Dax didn’t know Austin. Didn’t want him touching him, or the baby. But, the need to comfort Jacob won out over anything else. Which was calming for Dax. Because knowing that he could focus enough to want to do that made the whole situation so much less terrifying.
Dax uncurled then. Slowly though. Because the movement brought discomfort with it. And it made more sense now. Everything. He’d been feeling sick. Which had triggered him. It wasn’t the first time it had happened. Dax doubted it would be the last time either. But actually being pregnant this time made it so much more frightening to him. He searched for Jacob then, finding him perched on the corner of the bed. Dax whimpered. Really wanting to be closer. But knowing he couldn’t be. Not until he’d done what Jacob asked him to do.
He searched for Austin then. Finding him on his other side. There was something oddly comforting about him. Something that soothed Dax. Not as Jacob soothed him. But soothed him nonetheless. He nodded to him, not trusting his voice. Scared if he opened his mouth he might just start screaming again. He kept a bruising grip on Jacob’s hand.
Jacob's voice broke through the fogginess that threatened to consume him. It was crystal clear. Dax shuddered in his arms. Still very much trapped in a body that was rebelling against him. He could feel it. The sickness burning through him, spilling out of him in a torrent of red. Jax's arms around him, though, Jacob's were there as well somehow. He knew Jacob. As clear as day. And he was holding him. Calling to him. But Max was there in his vision. Knelt in front of him. His hands now elongated like claws. Pulling at him. And Dax screamed again. Because he knew what his brother wanted. Jax's voice against his hair. But he didn't want it. He wanted none of it. He just wanted his little girl, his Bella. But he knew somehow. He knew she was already dead. That he himself was dying too. His heart struggling to beat. And Jax, Jax was cooing to him. Like he were little again. A little boy afraid of the dark. Only that hadn't been Jax. His head jerked back against his brother as Max's claws pierced his skin. It hurt. It hurt so much. But then, the pain seemed to just dissipate. Jax seemed to morph into Jacob. Jacob's strong arms replacing Jax's desperate ones. No longer holding him still but just holding him. The blurred image of Max with his claws, the lifeless form cupped between them, fading into nothingness. And then, Dax gulped in air. It was cold, crisp, life-saving. Air. Jacob's air. Jacob's essence. His magic. Just him.
Dax's head lolled back against Jacob's shoulder. Thoroughly spent. Not even coherent really. Just saying Jacob's name over and over again. Because that was all Dax knew. Just Jacob.
Tumblr media
Dax didn't really even understand what was happening around him. His mind still muddled between past and present. But he did know Jacob was setting him down. And he didn't want to be. He clutches desperately at him. "No!" He cried. "No! Jacob!" His fingers were shaking so badly he couldn't grip firmly on his mate's arms. He could feel him pulling away from him. It was like something was being jerked out of him. It was jarring, and terrifying, and he cried out. The flashback still so close he could feel it gripping at his mind.
There was someone else there. That Dax hadn't noticed until now. Speaking his name. Asking to touch him. He couldn't focus on his face. He looked too much like Max. "No!" He shrieked. Pulling away from both this stranger who looked like his brother and apparently Jacob too. Because Jacob didn't look or sound like Jacob anymore. And Dax choked on a sob because he wanted him. He needed him. And he'd left him here. "My baby..." He said, whining low in his throat, curling himself into a pitiful little ball to protect his stomach. "My baby..." He whispered, a solitary tear sliding down his cheek.
Dax took in a shuddering breath when Jacob's lips brushed accross his feverish forehead. At least he felt feverish. He felt like he was on fire. From the inside. But it didn't feel like it should have been right. It felt like the remnants of a memory. A terrible memory. He whined a little, bumping his face against Jacob's hand when he brushed his hair back. The touch cold. Like ice. But not in a painful way. There would never be any pain from Jacob's touch. He opened his mouth to answer him but could not form the words. Because it was everything. Everything hurt. He was trapped in it. The memory was so real, so vivid. He couldn't tell anymore what was memory and what was reality. Except for Jacob. Jacob was the only thing for him to hold onto. When his love opened his arms to him, Dax fell into him. Clutching at him desperately. "I don't want to die...." He whimpered into Jacob's neck. Because it felt that way. His insides like they were being suffocated. It didn't make any sense. But nothing about that night made sense. The only real thing being memory of being held in Jax's arms, as he was violently ill. And the blood. So much blood. Max had been covered in it. Dax let out a little scream, muffling it against Jacob's skin. And yet, when Jacob's arms tightened around him, things faded a bit. He gasped from the relief of it. Because yes, yes, here with Jacob things were safe. They were fine. Nothing could happen to him here.
Tumblr media
Dax swayed a little when Jacob pulled back from him. Sucking in a gasping breath. He was vaguely away that something was happening. Jacob speaking to someone. Austin? Whoever Austin was. Dax didn't really care. He jumped when Jacob scooped him up off the floor, but quickly settled again, because it was Jacob and not anyone else. He knew that much. His stomach cramped again and he strangled out a cry. Not because the pain was too much for him, but the fear was. Dax could handle pain. He could not handle feeling life drain out of him again. Shuddering against Jacob, he pressed his face against Jacob's clutching tightly to him. "Please...." He moaned. It wasn't clear what he was begging Jacob for exactly. Not to him anyway. He just knew something needed to happen. Not what had happened before. Even though he yearned for his brothers so badly he would have cried if he'd been able to.
Jacob shakes his head at the apology. "Don't be sorry, babe." He said kissing his forehead. "I don't care that you woke me up. I was just worried about you." He strokes his hair as he trembles, listening when he said he was going to call Max and that it hurt. "Which part hurts, Daxie? Your stomach or the broken bond?" He asks as he gathers the Fae into his arms and holds him close while he trembles. "It's ok, you didn't do anything wrong. It's ok." He murmurs against his hair.

Jacob pulled back as Dax rested his hands over where their baby currently grew and could feel his fear. It was so strong that it took his breath away but still Jacob drew it into himself and replaced it with hope. "You did nothing wrong, the baby is ok." He says as he tugs strongly at his bond with Austin, sending him an emotional SOS. "Ill call Austin." He says just as his phone rang on the counter, the very person he needed "Sorry to wake you up but I need you. Can we meet at the clinic?" After the half far agreed he gently lifted Dax from the floor. "Everything is going to be alright." He murmured, not really caring about clothes as he just threw on a shirt and got Dax presentable before carrying him to the garden so he could use the flowers to open a portal to the clinic. "Hold on tight, babe. I don't care if you get sick on me."

Seeing Jacob standing there in the doorway, made him whimper a little. He hadn't meant to wake him. "I'm sorry..." He said softly, as Jacob knelt down in front of him. Picking his head up, he met Jacob's concerned eyes. He tried to smile at him but he couldn't. He sniffled, though not actually crying, more of a build up of it all. His eyes fell on his phone, and he picked it up off the floor. "I wanted to..." Taking a breath, he let it out again. Feeling a little stronger. "I was going to text Max." He admitted to Jacob. "But I...I didn't. It hurts...." He said nodding. But it was uncertain if he meant the pain in his stomach or the ache of his broken bonds with his brothers. Bonds he'd never meant to break. But they were broken just the same. Then, he felt guilty and small. Because Jacob had so many other things to concern himself with. And Dax was supposed to be comforting him. Yet here he was. Sitting on the floor of the bathroom with him. He whined, moving forward towards Jacob. "Please..." He was pleading, needing for Jacob to know what to do. To hold him. To just....make it stop. To calm his fears. And it was all too much to possibly be putting on Jacob at all.

His trembling hands came to rest over his stomach. The churning making him bite his lip so hard he drew blood. He wanted to ask to go to his brother. But he didn't think that would go well for any of them. That was a whole other situation he'd have to deal with at another time. Because right there he just couldn't think of anything else but the debilitating fear that he was losing another baby. It didn't seem right though. Because nothing was at all similar to what had happened. But the memories of it were still so vivid in his mind. That he was so sure he was. He dropped his forehead against Jacob's. His mere presence seeming to help. Giving him something to focus on. "I'm sorry..." He said again.
Jacob hadn't been asleep long when he felt fear coming through his bond with Dax. He sat up in bed, searching for his soulmate in the darkness of the bedroom before seeing the light on in the bathroom. Jacob got up out of bed and headed for the bathroom in only a pair of boxers to find Dax sitting on the floor. "Are you ok, sweetheart? I got worried when I felt your fear spike. Do you feel sick again? What can I do, babe?" He says kneeling down in front of the younger Fae.

...
Dax wasn't feeling well. He wasn't so much ill. Just terribly nauseous. His stomach in knots. It scared him a little. But Jacob had only just fallen into a fitful sleep, and he didn't want to wake him. So he escaped into the bathroom. His phone on the tile beside him. A text he was trying to send to Max but not able to bring himself to do it. He hadn't reached out to either of his brothers since faerie. He felt bad, guilty in a way. About everything. But not unhappy he realized. He could never be unhappy about finding Jacob, or about the little life growing in him. And he didn't think Max would appreciate a text in the middle of the night about his stomach hurting. He sighed, letting his head fall back against the wall he sat against.

Dax could feel the panic that gripped Jacob. That threatened to overpower him. To consume him. But Dax would not allow it to. He would allow no harm to come to his love. He took his face in his hands. Felt him struggle to take breath. And he kissed him. A kiss so deep. Breathing precious air into him. Breathing his own essence. His own soul. And then he kissed him again. And again. Fighting with Jacob, not against him. Giving him air, love, just everything. And then, Jacob took a breath on his own. It flowed through Dax. And Dax poured it into him, forcing him to take the air from him that he needed so desperately.
Dax pulled back. Gasping himself. Struggling past the lightheadedness. Past the disorienting sensation. With Jacob’s face still cradled firmly in his grasp. He listened then. Just sat, and listened. Flushed cheek held tightly against Jacob’s. He let Jacob tell him what had happened. “It wasn’t your fault.” Dax told him with a certainty that blazed in his soul. “Was none of your faults.” He kissed Jacob’s cheek. “And he will burn. I promise you that. He will burn. And we will dance over his ashes.”
Jacob slept peacefully next to his love and it was the best sleep of his life. Jacob never thought he would be the type to settle down. He was content on playing the field but he wasn't lying to Dax when he said it got lonely. And then Dax came and gave him everything he never thought he would want but now wanted more than anything. He showed him what real love was and they created something beautiful from their love that currently grew in Dax's belly.
Jacob was awakened by his phone ringing and he rolled over with a grown, blinking the sleep out of his eyes before answering when he saw it was Danny.
"Jacob, he took him." His mentor says and Jacob shot up in the bed, the covers polling around him as Danny explained what happened. Through the shock of what his mentor was telling him, he didn't register Dax calling to him at first until he shook his arm.
"H-He took Sky." Jacob managed to choke out "That fucker took my brother."

Shock passed accross Dax's face. Shock because clearly he hadn't heard that quite right. Because Skylar was warded. He was at the music studio. They had just left there hours before. It didn't make sense to Dax that Malachi could have gotten him from there. He shuddered with the revelation in that. That he hadn't been safe. That somehow, Jacob and his friends, his family, hadn't kept him that way.
Dax made a pained, whining sound. But it was more for Jacob then it was for him. Because Jacob's pain was like a stake being driven into his heart. Dax didn't handle pain well. He wasn't built for it. But he also could not leave Jacob to face it alone. Not now. Not ever. So he didn't retreat into himself as he wanted to. Didn't hide away from where Jacob. Going to a place he couldn't follow him too. But, Dax wasn't going to make Jacob follow him anywhere. He wasn't going to leave his side. He'd decided that already.
"Jake..." He said, with a calmness he did not feel. Gently he pried the phone from his lover's tight grip. Setting it to the side where it could rest in safety. Then he slid over, straddling Jacob's hips, wrapping his legs around him, then his arms. Holding him tight. Pressing his face against Jacob's cheek. Whispering to him. Telling him things. Things Dax never told to anyone. Secrets. Weaknesses he knew of Malachi. That he was scum. The lowest level of it. A worm. A sniveling thing. That they would crush him together. Dax and Jacob. That Dax wouldn't leave Jacob to fight this battle alone. He pressed a kiss to Jacob's cheek.

Gone
Dax snuggled in closer to Jacob's side. He knew he should have gone home to check of Jax and Max. But he couldn't bring himself to leave Jacob. Logically, he knew that Jacob would still be there if he left him. That Jacob wouldn't just disappear without a trace. But the fear was still there. The unease. Things were just so out of sorts. Like the universe was reeling. And it left Dax floating out in nothingness, with only Jacob there to keep him anchored to this realm.
Jacob's phone rang from the bedside table. And Dax made a soft sound of protest when the knight moved to answer it. He had almost dozed when he heard him inhale sharply. Alarmed, Dax sat up. The comforter pooling around his waist. He turned to face Jacob, his hand coming out to touch his arm. He was completely still, his muscles tight under Dax's fingers.
Dax tried to be patient. He tried to wait while Jacob finished his phone call. But Dax couldn't wait. Something was wrong. And he knew it was wrong somehow. Because Jacob did. "Jake?" He asked softly, shaking his arm a bit. "Jake...what's wrong? What's happened?"
