How can the focal point be supported by the elements surrounding it?

I chose this picture for line and point because in this composition there is a clear focal point and center of the image, which is the kid in front. However, there are a lot of elements that lead to the focal center. The major one being the layers of lines on the right side of the image created by an out of focus gate and concrete wall. This image as an asymmetrical leading line factor that leads towards the center of the frame.

Here is the long-form highlight video that I made in India. The editing style is really straight-forward so it relies a lot on cinematography, and a huge part of that is the motion of the camera. There are many shots that have a stillness to it, but there is a lot of anticipated motion integrated within the shots. Especially the slow-motion parts when it is focusing on the kids. There is anticipated motion of a smile, or a wink because it remains still for so long, making the pay-off even greater.

Here is a collage I made of a few of my favorite photos I took. I tried my best to use a gritty, messy texture with various brushes on photoshop, making the collage feel more tactile and vibrant than it would otherwise. This visual texture not only mends all of the vastly different images together, but it also brings more emphasis on the subject in the individual pictures themselves. When zoomed out it has a distinct visual texture to the whole thing that unifies it all.

Here is a picture of a building under construction in one of the villages I visited. I took a picture of it because of the dynamic shapes and depth that the tree branches holding up the structure offered. Within this one image, there are so many design elements that are in this composition. Branch after branch creates so many layers and overlapping, not only in the building but the composition as a whole. The layers of the rectilinear shape contrast with the diagonal winding path of the ram up to the second layer. Making this image more than just the sum of its parts.

Stranger Things season 3 uses color and value to emphasize the atmosphere that it wants to deliver. Almost every shot of this trailer is low lit but uses neon lights and vibrant storms to bring a unique look to it. With reds, purples, blues and flickering lights throughout the whole season, the show uses a variety of hues and varying values to create an eery, fantastical setting, while being deep rooted in the romanticized 80′s nostalgia. A lot of scenes fall on the cooler side of color temperature to make things feel more cold and isolated in scary moments. With his subtle color psychology, stranger things season 3 uses all of the color principles to effectively create an immersive experience for the viewer.

Baby driver is an action movie about a top-class heist, and the driver is one of the best getaway drivers ever, and he does that by listening to music. Throughout the entire trailer, and the movie, the action is always synced up to the rhythm of the music giving it an oddly rewarding feel to the action. This entire movie could be considered a multi-million dollar budget example of rhythm and motion, because every action sequence is perfectly synced with the score. Alternating rhythms is heavily used in this trailer with alternation of the sounds of the cars or guns, alternating with the rhythms of the music. Overall this trailer shows that our perception of rhythm can directly be integrated into an action sequence.

Pacific Rim was a Hollywood movie about giant fighting robots back in 2012. What made this movie unique from other similar movies like Transformers was that all of the camera angles were realistic and grounded.
The scale of the robots are emphasized heavily because of the angles are almost always from below.
This makes the viewers feel immersed in the action because it is actually relatable in a few different ways.
One of the ways is that people are the ones who are controlling robots with their movements. It consistently zooms into the person then zooms out to the robots, giving it two different scales and showing how giant these mechs are.
Through human-scale reference, the contrast of scale, and the internal references of the mechs, Pacific Rim effectively immerses the viewer into its world through these design elements.

The music video for “Still Feel” by Half Alive shows contrast between the different sections of the video, represented by saturated colors coming from the ceiling. However, it is all unified through the rhythm, motion, and pattern of the choreography.
The proximity of the cinematography keeps the lead in center focus the majority of the time while he goes through different dances, outfits, and directions, keeping the video feel coherent.
However, the video is in a constant contrast between dancing and playing instruments, while having seamless transitions throughout.
The rhythm and motion in the video is engaging, even though it is a relatively simple music video, the continuous camera movement and the movement of the dancers is mesmerizing.
As we see in this music video, unity and contrast play key roles to make it captivating to watch and analyze the meaning behind each movement.
