agjdf was watching a vid titled "6 most EVIL wrestlers" w a friend. we click on the sequel, more 6 evil wrestlers. youtuber opens it with "i hadnt planned on another video bc i thought those 6 were the only ones. but i read abt some more. THIS will be the last video bc theres no way theres more." we open the comments, its all ppl going "oh, you sweet summer child" and listing names like its fucking we didnt start the fire

So…I may have kicked off my @fluffbruary a little early.

I had an idea jump out at me and before I knew it I had a double drabble starring Chris Brookes (with cameos by Zack Sabre Jr and Mao). 🤷🏻‍♀️

Hell. Yes.

For the longest time I didn’t see myself as creative (autism spectrum + left-brained dominance, yaaaay 😖). I was an artisan, rather than an artist. Could make functional stuff but wasn’t too good at making it pretty or imagining things.

Pair that with a certain societal disdain for the arts and you have a Verenestra that never really practiced or flexed her creative muscles.

What I’m only just now realising is that you gotta make the ‘bad��� art in order to make the ‘good’ art - it’s how you learn. And the ‘bad’ art is generally never as bad as you think it is anyway (as I was pleasantly surprised to find out when I first started writing on AO3!)

David Lynch was a huge influence on Danhausen. (…) because in a world that is purely sanitized garbage for the most part, as far as arts and films and music and all that go, seemingly at least, he was authentically himself. He was unapologetically himself– why would he apologize? He was weird, but because he was authentically weird, weird is good.

Can confirm…comments like these feel amazing when you get them. They really do inspire authors (well, this author at least!) to try and get over that writers block or to make a start on that idea in their brain.

1. Find one passage/dialogue fragment/sentence that jumped out at you or got a strong reaction. It might have made you laugh, or it made you go “awwwww…🥹” or it might have been so hot/spicy that your brain melted.

2. In your comment, quote the passage (I like putting the quoted bit in italics) and tell the author about that feeling. Go into as much detail as you like.

For example: I was reading a smut piece that happened to have a really funny line in it that made me CACKLE with laughter. Problem was - I was sitting next to my partner and I had to explain without explaining why I was laughing…

You’d best believe that I related this to the writer of the fic. Authors live for those kinds of stories, man. 😁

BTW i see these posts all the time like "ohhh i dont know what to comment on fics.." and every response is "keysmashes! or hearts!! anything works :3" and thats GREAT!! thats helpful!!

but: consider. if u genuinely like analyzing writing.. do u know ur just allowed to go through and quote your favorite parts and ramble abt what they mean to u and the author will LOSE IT WITH HYPE?

genuinely. i felt SO WEIRD the first time i did it.. but like. holy shit authors love it. its crack for authors. the first time i did it, it was on a fic that hadnt updated in half a year, give or take, and the author made 3 updates that month BECAUSE OF MY COMMENT.

LIKE. as an author every comment is INCREDIBLE!!! but also, dont feel like your comment has to be short or otherwise ur invasive or smth!! authors ADORE long comments more than ANYTHING.
