From my limited knowledge of Warhammer lore, this appears to be a reference to the Blood Angels and/or the Red Thirst. Claudio descending into a rage on Collision could be another reference.

At some point, if a Blood Angel does not fall in battle beforehand, the Red Thirst becomes uncontrollable and ultimately the leader of the legion must put him down.

I think they might be setting up Claudio to fight Mox in some way, maybe after Mox loses the title. If Mox can’t keep control of Claudio then he’ll have no choice.

This is one of those cases where providing context just makes it crazier!

So, DDT just had an event on 20/4/25 (it’s available on Wrestle Universe - ‘Kansa Myojin Cultural Exchange Center presents Back Vegas Series’). The main event was…well, I’ll just screengrab the Wrestle Universe blurb:

Twilight Rouge, from what I can gather, appears to be a maid/hostess cafe (I stand to be corrected on that point though). As such, it was expected that all entrants look pretty. Hair ribbons - mandatory. Make up - necessary. Acting ‘kawaii’ during entrances/in ring/for photos? You’d best believe it.

So the end result was seven of DDT’s finest, giving their best babygirl. And it was glorious.

The winner’s prize was a Twilight Rouge dress and they were expected to go backstage and change into it. I highly recommend seeking this match out if you are able (on the Wrestle Universe feed, the Japanese-only commentary starts at 1:28:49, the match entrances start 1:30:50). Just classic DDT booking. 😍

MJF

Dropped the Triple B to Samoa Joe at Worlds End (Dec ‘23). Became International Champion, dropped that title to Will Ospreay at All In (Aug’24). Kind of got lost in the wilderness for a bit after that.

However, since MVP(!) and The Hurt Syndicate (Bobby Lashley and Shelton Benjamin!!!) joined AEW, he’s been trying to get in to the faction. MJF wants his Triple-B again, he’s proposing a mutual-benefit arrangement. MVP’s on board, Lashley (quite rightly) doesn’t trust him one bit, and Shelton is fence-sitting/nominally on Lashley’s side.

The Patriarchy

Luchasaurus (sorry, Killswitch) has been out of action since September last year. Got sick, it turned into pneumonia in both lungs so he went to hospital. Still not back yet (but I hope it’s soon…)

In addition to Nick Wayne and Mama Wayne, the Patriarchy took in Kip Sabian which made for some interesting sibling rivalry. Lately Nick is starting to act out, mainly as a result of Christian’s failed contract cash-in at Revolution this year. It feels like they’re teasing a split…but then Nick is also heading to Japan to compete in NJPW’s Best of the Super Juniors (eeeee!) so…🤷🏻‍♀️

Adam Copeland

Stop trying to make ‘Cope’ happen. It’s not going to happen.

Yeah, they’re trying to shorten his name and personally I wish they hadn’t. 🙄

Alright, being serious again…he was in Grand Slam Australia and because Aussies are awesome 🇦🇺, Adam is now the guy who’s theme song gets sung by the whole stadium, even once they fade out the music (take that, Jericho). Tried (and failed) to beat Moxley for the title at Revolution - which is where Christian cashed in and made it a triple threat for…reasons?

Went after the trios titles with fellow Asheville NC residents FTR (as Rated FTR)…which also failed. FTR turned on him a week or two ago and he’s been out of action since (well, as far as I know anyway; haven’t watched this week’s Dynamite).

Toni Storm

To quote the Timeless One herself: “My god. What a woman.”

Julia Hart

Her theme song lyrics are now changed to “Live in sin/The heart always wins” (not accurate - she’s lost a bunch of close ones - but ehhhh…). Basically in that mid card position of ‘relatively credible threat, but stands zero chance in a title bout’. I hope that changes soon. 😖

Undisputed Kingdom

Has anyone even seen The Kingdom lately? Half expecting to see them on milk cartons at this point…

Kyle O’Reilly is no longer Conglomerating, and has reunited with Cole and Roddy. The team name ‘The Paragon’ has been bandied about but I don’t know if that’s just the tag team name or the new faction name. Long story short, we’re back to NXT-era UE, minus Bobby Fish.

Adam Cole spent a good portion of 2024 on the shelf because his ankles are made of powder, apparently (this time he needed multiple surgeries and a freaking cadaver bone to repair it 😳). He only returned to the ring late last year.

The Acclaimed

The Acclaimed are no more.

Max Caster got on his bullshit of being ‘The Best Wrestler Alive’, triggering an ugly, violent break-up where he turned on Bowens.

Max then had a comedy bit where he trademarked ‘The Best Wrestler Alive’ - and brought it into the ring - framed and everything! - for his Open Challenge segment (and I quote: “Who can survive the Best Wrestler Alive?”). Expecting a jobber, his opponents (in order) were Rush, Hangman Adam Page, Brody King, Jay White, Konosuke Takeshita, Hook, and Mark Briscoe. He lost every single one in a squash - the longest match was 1:39 and that’s only because Brody King likes to play with his food. 😆

Bowens spent an extended period away, returning a few weeks ago at Dynasty Zero Hour to answer Caster’s Open Challenge - the crowd went absolutely BANANAS for his return which was really cool to see. And yes, he beat the snot out of him in a 40-second squash 😂 Looks like Bowens got custody of Daddy Ass and scissoring in the divorce.

Other Stuff

In no particular order…

* Ricochet became All Elite at 2024’s All In (if you can I’d recommend finding that show and watching it because it has a bunch of key moments). Had some spot-fest matches with Will Ospreay - including basically recreating THAT sequence from their 2016 New Japan BOSJ bout. A feud with Swerve Strickland led to him turning heel at the start of this year, and he’s now really showing his character chops (you love to see it).

* NIGEL MCGUINNESS RETURNED TO IN-RING COMPETITION. He was a surprise entrant in the Casino Gauntlet match, and considering the main event was a Title v Career match between Strickland and Nigel’s eternal enemy Bryan Danielson…👀. He later had matches against Danielson (for the AEW title) and Lee Moriarty (for the ROH Pure title). Nigel’s back to doing commentary on Collision and at PPVs, but I guess the occasional in-ring appearance is now on the table.

* Sting had his retirement match (Revolution, Mar 2024). He teamed with Darby Allin to defeat the Young Bucks and retain the tag titles (and retire undefeated in AEW). The tag titles were then vacated and a tournament held to crown new tag champs.

* Revolution ‘24 was also Will Ospreay’s first match as a member of the AEW roster. He’s now one of the biggest stars they have, right up there with the likes of Hanger, Swerve, and Kenny.

* Mercedes Moné (fka Sasha Banks) signed with AEW and is the current TBS Champion.

* Kazuchika Okada signed with AEW in March ‘24 and is the reigning AEW Continental Champion. If the last PPV is anything to go by, they’re teasing an Omega/Okada feud and unification of the International and Continental titles.

* The StrickPage feud is alive and kicking! And it’s gotten to the point that some of their recent interactions have hit mainstream social media/internet, with variations on “soooo…are they gonna kiss or what?” (I mean, they’re not wrong…)

Yeah…a lot happened in 2024. 😳

Fellow AEW pals! I'm trying to get back into the shows again and I need your help getting me up to speed.

For context I started to stop routinely watching around late 2023 - early 2024? I remember the Strickpage feud was in its infancy, MJF was still out after Adam Cole turned on him, and Bryan Danielson was still doing his retirement run.

Soo I'm asking ya'll to infodump me to your hearts content about what's happened between then and now. I only have a vague understanding of current events.

Would especially like updates on MJF, The Patriarchy, Copeland, Toni Storm, Julia Hart, Undisputed Kingdom, and The Acclaimed. And any new talent, returns, cameos/signings from veterans, and new PPVs and events! But any and all updates I'd love to hear!

On a level with El Desperado v Chris Brookes. Like, that match (Wrestle Peter Pan 2024), in true DDT fashion, was a lot bloodier but there was a sense of silliness and - dare I say - whimsy.

(Kind of hard not to when Antonio Honda and Gon the Fox get involved 😂)

This match? The animus was really evident. It felt like they were out to hurt each other. I have a new respect for Clark Connors after this.
