Maybe I’m old fashioned, but most of the time when I think about music I totally forget that Built to Spill is a band that a lot of people like.

12 miles and plenty of smiles
Today we split up the otter pups. The older otter went with momma to the aquarium in Denver and I took the other otter hiking up Green Mountain. Aside from getting a little cold near the top, she did great! Nearly four hours on the trail and smiling at the end.
Here’s the gear we used on the hike:
Osprey Poco LT Child Carrier
Hiking poles
Sunscreen
Two water bottles (a 2 liter and a smaller bottle for quick sips)
Snacks
Warm coat for the otter pup

It was among the strongest feelings of grief I have ever encountered. The contrast between the vicious coldness of space and the warm nurturing of Earth below filled me with overwhelming sadness.

New dinner routine
We started giving the otter pups their own meal time while we cooked dinner for the growns. We used to have everyone sit down together for a family meal, but the oldest otter never ate and sleep times started too late. In the new routine the pups are fed by 5:30 at the latest and getting a much better sleep.

There are several reasons and no one is exactly sure why, but it doesn’t hurt to get ‘em ou-side.
