(click for bigger if it’s small)
I had a lot of fun with this on twitter, so I just kept on going with it. But you know, I’m always kind of touched by how strongly fans support their favourite characters, and there is a lot of love for Cloak and Dagger, and you can see why because there are some pretty great things about that pair. But that costume, come on, it’s a big old slice of tit window pie. They don’t always dress Dagger like that, but yeah they mostly do! But they probably won’t on the tv show! I didn’t dwell on Cloak very much in a comic about tit windows, but, here’s something. I tweeted this essay a while ago when I read it, but Cloak’s lack of a body really brought it to mind again, and you should totally read it, though mostly it is about the character Cyborg, it is relevant here too: Humanity Not Included: DC’s Cyborg and the Mechanization of the Black Body by Robert Jones, Jr.

Q: This isn’t meant to be an insult or a rant or anything of the sort, but I was wondering why in scott pilgrim vs the world (which I loved a lot btw) there aren’t very many people of color? There was Matthew but not any or many others, unless I was very silly and I missed them. Is this because...

Lumberjanes drops today, you guys! CAN YOU BELIEVE IT?
I’ve been posting a lot about this series, because I am just so excited. First off, it’s created by an amazing team of badass ladies - It’s co-written by Grace Ellis (Intern Grace of Autostraddle) and Noelle Stevenson (who you know as Gingerhaze and the creator of Nimona), was co-created by Adventure Time and Regular Show editor Shannon Watters, and is being drawn by amazing AT/RS artist Brooke Allen. Not a single symmetrical haircut between them, and I love it.
More than that, it’s a story about five best friends at summer camp fighting MONSTERS. A little bit Gravity Falls, a dash of Babysitter’s Club, some riot grrrl attitude - and so much fun. It’s all-ages! It’s awesome!
And, on a more personal level, it is just so much GIRL POWER. You open the credits page on Lumberjanes and take a scan over those names - pretty much everybody who worked on the book is a tough lady. The cover artists were chosen from the massive pool of talented women working in indie and webcomics, and they are SO GOOD.
A whole bunch of awesome ladies making a comic about awesome ladies, but for everyone. Representation matters, and it does the heart good. Plus, it’s just super funny and wonderful. Pick it up, check it out! Wear plaid and tweet it at @Lumberjanes - the Valkyries will be doing it all day.
(Oh, and lastly - each issue deals with the girls earning a scout badge, and I designed ‘em!)

Video
new titles coming from Kids Can Press! Looking forward to Scott Chantler's The King's Dragon!
youtube
New video plugging the spring titles from Kids Can Press, including The King’s Dragon. It’s funny to see me plugging my dark, action-oriented adventure amongst all those bright, cuddly animals. But I assume there are still kids out there who want thrills, the way I did (and still do).
