My Life as a Darklord
7 posts
If you think I'm some kind of gentle, soothing light, forget it! I'm still the Darklord, you know! But there's no harm in a Darklord dreaming about rays of hope, I suppose.

"That's because I am a monster," the Darklord gloated, too immersed in the opportunity to talk about herself to take note of the comforting pat sneaked to the boy's back. "The most powerful monster who ever lived," she turned an impassioned glare on him for emphasis, though it was the button-eyed tonberry who shrunk back for fear instead, "and you'd better not forget it!"

"W-well…"
No, he knew better than that. He would play to her ego and not mention that he didn’t actually hear much about her except that she actually existed and seemed to control monsters, but was not truly a summoner. He had thought scholastically of what it could be, that perhaps she was a great mage. And naturally, he sought to learn about such a gift.
"Yes, o-of course. I’ve heard great things. And I’ve been meaning to ask you about them."
A quick glance around reminded Arc of where he was and the situation he was in. He looked sidelong at the tonberry who had guided him to this apparent throne room, in hopes of gaining some kind of safety with her. But she was still in the cold light, perhaps admiring her lady…or as nervous as he was.
"You seem to possess an amazing connection with monsters. I’m a scholar of magic, so I…was wondering if maybe you would t-tell me about it?"
Words didn’t seem to want to form as he got to the point of his visit. She didn’t seem to be in traditional summoner garb; not even evoker clothing. He suddenly felt quite unsure, and took a very slight step towards the tonberry girl.

"You... do?" Sincere surprise softened her features but for a fleeting moment, chest puffing with misplaced self-importance the very next. "But of course you do! Did you hear that, my Tonberries?" She inquired of the number of glowing spheres floating, unblinking, in the murky shadows of the throne room. "Stories of my grand exploits have spread so far, we have scholars banging down our door to learn about me, now!"
Tumblr media
Arc had only meant to learn of the land and its past in the place he now visited. Arc had only meant to learn of this so-called half blooded ruler whose lineage Arc knew nothing about but was greatly interested in. Arc had only meant to inquire, perhaps borrow reports or books, and then leave, forming a possible bond with the ruler for future growth.
This was not what he was expecting.
A tonberry was one thing, and almost made him want to flee at the sight of her. But then she began speaking and bringing Arc up dark floors and along corridors filled with monsters…that did not attack.
But what was the most surprising was not the response from the ruler who he was brought to by the suddenly shy tonberry; it was the vibrance of the girl who sat on a bright pink throne. Clad in clothing that seemed split down the middle, one light and one dark. She seemed so interesting until he remembered she said something.
Arc didn’t like the idea of belittling himself, but he would consider it if she let him go alive.
"I-I’m here on a peaceful request. I r-really just want to learn about you."
Mira was the name he remembered hearing when he had requested information. But in his nervousness, he forgot it.

♛ Cower in fear, adventurers! There's a new villain in town! ♔
While not long ago a knock upon the great myrrhwood doors guarding entrance to the Flying Tower would have summoned an army of warmongering monsters, it was the amicable Tonbetty who answered instead, leading the wayward wanderer past floors brimming with miasma-born beasts, chatting cheerily despite a clump of escaped stuffing obscuring one of her bright button eyes.
It was only once nearing the throne room that she quieted, demeanor growing meek as the doors before them parted with an ominous creak. Upon a plush pink cathedra perched her princess, mismatched eyes intent upon the strangely dressed guest, although she feigned disinterest.
"Grovel at my feet, twirl around three times, say 'kupo', and maybe I'll think about sparing your life."
